Located about 50 miles northeast of Nassau on the secluded island of Eleuthera, The Cove, Eleuthera boasts 57 guest rooms, suites and villas nestled on a white sand beach. Rooms feature 500-thread-count linens, minifridges, Nespresso machines and flat-screen TVs. All accommodations are steps away from The Cove, Eleuthera's oceanfront infinity pool and on-site eateries. Whether you're lounging on the beach or snorkeling in the cerulean waters, The Cove offers a variety of ways to keep busy while on vacation. You can also arrange island tours, yacht charters and other recreational activities through the resort (at an additional cost). Despite the property's plethora of outdoor pursuits, some past visitors bemoaned the lack of on-site evening entertainment. Others cited poor housekeeping services and warned that meals served in the resort's two dining venues are pricey.

After you've soaked up some rays, take your pick between 21 on-site restaurants and numerous bars and lounges. Sandals Royal Bahamian has a long-standing regal heritage. Before it was part of the Sandals family, this retreat was known as the Balmoral Club – a famed 1940s escape for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Upholding the Balmoral's legacy, Sandals Royal Bahamian's main entrance and lobby display frescoed ceilings and opulent chandeliers, while rooms include old-world colonial accents. Sandals Royal Bahamian also features a Red Lane Spa, 10 restaurants, seven pools and complimentary gear for kayaking, sailing and scuba diving (lessons are covered by the all-inclusive room rates). And if you crave a change in scenery, hop on a free boat and within minutes you'll be on Sandals' private offshore island with access to two secluded beaches, a lagoon-style pool and a seafood eatery. Though guests say the private beach is a fun getaway, many lament the inconsistent service and the indirect ocean views from the accommodations.

Compared to the luxe Reef at Atlantis and the adults-only Cove at Atlantis, The Royal at Atlantis is the most kid-friendly branch of the Atlantis Bahamas properties, starting with one of the largest open-air marine habitats in the world (which resides in the lobby). Recent guests praised The Royal at Atlantis' rooms, which feature flat-screen high-definition TVs, 24-hour room service and French balconies that open to harbor or ocean views. But the best part about staying here is having access to Atlantis amenities like the 141-acre water park, one of the Caribbean's largest casinos, the Mandara Spa and an 18-hole golf course. Though there are 40 restaurants, coffee shops, bars and lounges on-site, previous visitors recommend going into Nassau (about 5 miles south of the property) for meals to avoid shelling out a pretty penny for pricey meals at the resort. Travelers can also cash in accrued Marriott Rewards points for stays here.

Of all the Baha Mar properties to choose from in Nassau in the Bahamas, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is perhaps best suited for families. That's because this Grand Hyatt outpost offers a kids club, babysitting services and multiple pools. Travelers especially love the family-friendly Dean's Blue Hole pool, which features rock walls, waterfalls and a grotto with an attached aquarium that houses fish and sharks. There's also The Sanctuary, where guests can interact with the resort's sea turtles, stingrays and other marine species during daily feedings and animal encounters. Meanwhile, adults can take advantage of additional facilities, such as a spa and a casino. Plus, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar and the larger Baha Mar complex offer 20-plus dining options that serve everything from fresh Bahamian seafood to modern Chinese cuisine to Mexican classics. As for the rooms, expect blue and white decor and plenty of space (standard rooms start at 470 square feet), as well as amenities like 42-inch flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffee makers, minibars and robes and slippers. Overall, guests praise this Hyatt property, although some say the food and drink prices are exorbitant. To save some coin, World of Hyatt members can use accrued points to pay for rooms.

Grand Isle Resort & Spa overlooks Emerald Bay from the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas. Situated along a mile-long stretch of sand, this modern boutique resort is popular with honeymooning couples and guests seeking a relaxing, quiet getaway, thanks in part to its specialty offerings like couples spa treatments and private oceanfront dinners. In fact, the romantic retreat was featured on season 20 of the reality TV show "The Bachelor." But if you're traveling with little ones, don't fret: This waterfront oasis offers kid-friendly amenities, too, including free supervised children's activities, high chairs and an infinity-edge pool. For food, there's the Caribbean-focused Palapa Grill, which offers daily themed dinners like barbecue dishes on Thursdays and Italian fare on Saturdays. Though past diners said the restaurant's food was tasty, some felt meals were overpriced and bemoaned having to book reservations for dinner. If you forgot to make a reservation or want to save some money, each villa and penthouse (which can be paid for with an I Prefer Hotel Rewards certificate) has a kitchen for cooking. The one- to four-bedroom spaces also feature marble bathrooms, private patios or balconies, free Wi-Fi access and washers and dryers.

Nestled along an alabaster sand beach on Paradise Island, The Ocean Club boasts 107 guest rooms, suites and villas housed in a classic colonial mansion. Rooms offer spacious balconies or patios, 24-hour concierges, personal butlers, marble bathrooms and welcome amenities that include fruit, a hat and a beach bag. Guests here also have access to the beach, six tennis courts and an 18-hole golf course. What's more, lodgers at this Four Seasons outpost enjoy free access (and complimentary transport) to the facilities at the Atlantis Bahamas resort complex, including its 21 restaurants and 19 lounges. If you don't want to venture away from the resort, The Ocean Club provides an abundance of on-site eateries, including the Jean-Georges Vongerichten-affiliated DUNE restaurant, the Caribbean-inspired OCEAN eatery and a poolside terrace. The property is also home to two bars, one of which makes an appearance in the James Bond movie "Casino Royale." Overall, recent visitors praised the resort's location and well-maintained grounds; however, several lamented the lackluster customer service and cuisine, especially given the high room rates.

The Reef at Atlantis, a member of Marriott's Autograph Collection, caters to the Paradise Beach vacationer looking for a touch of luxury. Guests can choose between spacious, well-appointed studios, suites and penthouses, which all feature private balconies or terraces that open to views of the Nassau Harbour or the ocean. As a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, the Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant offers a unique experience, distinguished from its Nassau counterparts. This 18th-century colonial mansion comprises only 20 antique-filled rooms, each differentiated by historic names instead of room numbers. Despite its old-world decor, rooms do come with 21st-century amenities, including complimentary Wi-Fi access and cable TVs. To get a taste of the Graycliff's far-reaching heritage, opt to bed down in the Pool Cottage, where Winston Churchill once slept. Though the rooms may not appeal to all visitors, recent guests said this property is best for history lovers who appreciate the hotel's ancestral commitment. The Graycliff also boasts two on-site pools and a five-star restaurant of the same name. What's even more unique is that the hotel offers cigar-rolling lessons and tastings at its own cigar company, plus certified organic chocolates from the on-site Graycliff Chocolatier.

Found in the Bahamas' historic West End village on the western tip of Grand Bahama Island, Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour offers a secluded, less tourist-focused hideaway. But recent guests said this quiet isolation comes at a cost: The nearest restaurants and attractions are located in Freeport – a roughly 30-mile trek southeast of the resort. The distance from Freeport's eateries can be especially difficult since Old Bahama Bay houses only one restaurant. However, the resort does offer plenty of activities. Because of its marina location, fishermen can easily cast a line, swimmers can splash around in the 4,000-square-foot infinity pool, and beachcombers can scuba dive, snorkel or lounge on the sands. Plus, equipment like paddleboards, kayaks and bicycles are covered by the property's $20 daily resort fee. After a day in the sun, retire to your suite. Each features luxurious amenities like colonial-style artisan furnishings, a kitchenette, a bathtub and in-unit laundry machines.
