TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3298 reviewsTripAdvisor (3298)
The Kahala Hotel & Resort — located about 3 miles southwest of Diamond Head on the coast of the Kahala neighborhood — has played host to a long list of ritzy clients. Even lovebirds Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton came to stay at this Honolulu landmark after their marriage. So naturally, the rooms are fairly posh, featuring private balconies with views of the ocean and or nearby mountains. While you're here, take a break from the Honolulu hustle and bustle with a massage at The Kahala Spa, or simply kick back and relax in one of the cozy lounge chairs that line the pool. The hotel also boasts a pristine stretch of white sand beach, so you won't have to worry about fighting crowds for a spot on the shore. While you're here, recent visitors highly recommend taking advantage of Dolphin Quest: The Kahala grounds feature a lagoon where guests can swim with bottlenose dolphins. Walking into the lobby of the Princeville Resort, you know immediately that you are at the top – the top of the hotel that is. That's where you'll find the lobby, affording jaw-dropping views of the ocean and Kauai's lush coast. Between Hanalei Bay and Kauai's rugged mountains, the resort's stunning location sets this property apart from the competition. According to previous visitors, the guest rooms are just as impressive: Princeville Resort forgoes the kitschy tropical decor in favor of decorative accents that touch upon the resort's natural surroundings with rich, earth tone color palettes. Rooms also come with home theater systems, 300-thread-count linens and, in some cases, balconies. The Princeville Resort also houses multiple distinct restaurants, all of which use ingredients that have been grown or produced on the island. And it's home to an incredible infinity pool – dubbed one of the world's most beautiful. The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Autograph Collection is one the Big Island's more historical properties: In the 1960s, the site was hand-picked by founder Laurance S. Rockefeller specifically for its beautiful crescent-shaped shoreline. Although most of the original architecture was battered in 2006 by an earthquake, the modern and sweeping redesign lends a sense of fresh and airy luxury to the hotel. Each of the 252 spacious rooms comes appointed with minifridges, flat-screen TVs and your very own lanai (Hawaiian for "veranda") off of the bedroom. Although this hotel may not be as flashy some of the Big Island's other luxury resorts, you will find a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. golf course, the full-service Mauna Kea Spa by Mandara and seaside tennis courts. The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel also boasts several restaurants, all of which serve up different island-inspired cuisine, but note that some require advanced reservations. This boutique resort on Oahu's northern shore – about 45 miles northwest of Waikiki Beach – is popular among avid movie- and television-buffs: Turtle Bay Resort was featured in the film, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and the the hit television show "LOST" used the resort's grounds as a backdrop. It's easy to see why Hollywood is so infatuated with Turtle Bay: The property encompasses roughly 850 acres of Hawaiian flora, fauna and shoreline. Inside, you'll find spacious guest rooms, each boasting gorgeous ocean views, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Outside of the rooms, amenities remain abundant. There's golf courses, a spa, fitness classes, a tennis center, multiple restaurants, a luau experience, water sports activities and much more. Previous visitors have been wowed Turtle Bay's setting above all and give kudos to the staff as well.

    Princeville, HI
#25 in Best Resorts in Hawaii
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2312 reviewsTripAdvisor (2312)
"No beach" – words that could horrify any vacationer to Hawaii. But at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas, you shouldn't worry: Guests of this Westin property can access St. Regis' stellar sands via a complimentary shuttle ride. And there is enough at The Westin Princeville to keep you occupied: The resort grounds feature multiple pools and a fitness center, and staying here will put you within easy reach of the fairways at the nearby Makai Club Resort. Guests regularly described rooms here as spacious, coming outfitted with whirlpool baths, kitchens, flat-screen TVs and Bose stereos. While there is plenty on-site, some guests were still pretty hung up on the fact that there is no beach and found it inconvenient to have to travel for it. Though many were in agreement that the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. And because this hotel is part of the Marriott hotel family, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn and use points here.
