Rosewood Mayakoba fully immerses guests in the Riviera Maya's beauty through its architecture and design. Not only is it flanked by the region's famed crystalline sands and lush jungle, the resort is also constructed from local materials, such as Yucatan limestone and regional wood. Visitors especially praise the private terrace and heated plunge pool attached to each of the property's 129 suites. And the welcome tequila, daily restocked fruit bowl and personal butler service, which the daily resort fee (15% of your room rate) covers, exemplify an above-par level of hospitality. The culinary offerings at Rosewood Mayakoba's five restaurants are another point of praise among recent guests. And, despite their high price tags, visitors say the unique treatments at Sense, A Rosewood Spa are well worth the indulgence. If a romantic getaway is what you're after, consider a stay at the Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa Del Carmen. Favored among couples for its intimate atmosphere, peaceful rooms and stellar staff, the Mahekal Beach Resort continually impresses twosomes – and many even plan repeat visits to the property. Those traveling sans significant other say much of the same, especially in regards to the size of the resort, which lodgers describe as not too big and not too small. But that's not to say the resort skimps on amenities: Mahekal offers five on-site restaurants and bars (not including its pool bars), four pools, a spa, a fitness center, direct beach access and the Vida Aquatica Dive Center, which provides water sport rentals, fishing trips and snorkel tours on top of scuba certification and excursions. Guests ate up the thatched-roof accommodations and the palm trees that surround them. Standard rooms feature private terraces with hammocks, complimentary Wi-Fi access, bathrooms with walk-in showers and organic, Mayan-inspired bath amenities. The only complaint among recent lodgers? Those who stayed at Mahekal Beach Resort during Playa Del Carmen's music festivals (which typically occur in December and January) said a relaxing vacation is not easy to come by thanks to all the extra noise and guests.

Generations Riviera Maya is an all-suite, all-inclusive resort that sits about halfway between Playa del Carmen and Cancun on the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The beachfront resort offers 162 suites, all with large balconies or terraces. Some larger suites are equipped with swim-up balconies that connect to the infinity pool. Guests are complimentary of the spacious accommodations and also praise the customer service and variety of food found at the on-site restaurants. Generations Riviera Maya boasts five dining spots that serve Mexican, Caribbean, Indian, Asian and international cuisine, as well as several bars – one of which is a swim-up bar. The resort welcomes children, and the property's Eko Kids Club offers supervised games and enrichment activities for guests ages 4 to 12. Both kids and adults will enjoy the resort's infinity pool that stretches along the length of the property, as well as the Jacuzzis available in every suite. Although guests heap praise on the resort's pools and restaurants, some lament the property's small, rocky beach. Next to the resort are two of Karisma's other Riviera Maya properties, El Dorado Casitas Royale and El Dorado Royale, and guests ages 18 and older can use the facilities at both of these locations.

For travelers who enjoy the atmosphere and versatile amenities that all-inclusive resorts offer without the throng of vacationers and maze-like layout, El Dorado Maroma in Punta Maroma, Mexico (a coastal area about 10 miles northwest of Playa del Carmen) may be the perfect getaway. Each of the resort's 98 suites, bungalows and villas faces the teal waters of Maroma Beach or the property's tropical gardens and boasts neutral hues or bright Caribbean decor, a satellite TV, a minibar and a spacious balcony or terrace. Recent guests praised the well-appointed digs but warned that while El Dorado Maroma is technically a beachfront resort, the rooms aren't directly situated on the sandy strip. But if you crave waterfront accommodations, consider booking one of the property's overwater bungalows, which feature glass-bottom floors, private infinity pools and large decks with outdoor showers and ocean access. No matter which accommodation you choose, you'll enjoy beach butler service, access to three freshwater pools and a fitness center, Spanish lessons, complimentary use of kayaks and snorkeling gear and limitless meals and beverages at the resort's six restaurants and five bars. Though travelers give kudos to the variety of gourmet menu items, some wish the food had more of a Mexican flare. And though the spa services aren't part of your all-inclusive package, guests say the soothing treatments and massages are well worth the splurge.
