    Rancho Mirage, CA
#1 in Best Resorts in Palm Springs
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1716 reviewsTripAdvisor (1716)
    Free WiFi

This Ritz outpost is located about 9 miles southeast of Palm Springs, California, in Rancho Mirage. The hotel's suites feature balconies, stone bathrooms with separate showers and soaking tubs, beds with 400-thread-count Frette linens and Nespresso coffee makers. But with the resort's ample amenities, guests won't want to spend all their time in their rooms. The property has multiple pools and a spa boasting treatments like the Coconut Body Polish and the Sec-He Rock Ritual. Plus, nearby hiking trails and the on-site fitness center offer ample opportunities for exercise. When it's time for a bite to eat, try the casual cuisine at the Air Pool Bar or go for a more upscale meal at  either The Edge Steakhouse or the State Fare Bar & Kitchen. Recent guests said the hotel's setting is beautiful but warn of exorbitant prices for everything from food at the on-site restaurants to the mandatory valet parking. Keep in mind that because of its Marriott ties, the Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage allows Marriott Bonvoy members to earn perks or use points to cover stays at the property.

With the Santa Rosa Mountains as its backdrop, the La Quinta Resort & Club has been a desert getaway for the Hollywood elite since its opening in the 1920s. Stars such as Greta Garbo and Clark Gable used to seek refuge within the resort's whitewashed casitas, located around 127 miles from Los Angeles. Guest rooms maintain a relaxed yet luxurious ambiance with soothing design accents, leather furniture and fireplaces (in most rooms). The resorts' amenities will also provide visitors with all they need for a relaxing or an exciting getaway. Summer temperatures in the Coachella Valley can enter the triple digits, but La Quinta boasts 41 outdoor swimming pools to keep guests cool and comfortable. If it's not too hot, take advantage of this Waldorf Astoria-affiliated resort's five golf courses or the on-site tennis center, complete with 23 courts and private instruction. Recent travelers lauded La Quinta's seven in-house restaurants, especially the Mexican fare of Adobe Grill. However, get ready for a lot of walking: La Quinta's grounds are manicured and lovely, but it's a trek to span the property. Members of the Hilton Honors program can earn or redeem points by choosing to stay here, but make sure you're aware of the daily resort fee that applies to all guests.

Situated on East Tahquitz Canyon Way in downtown Palm Springs, California, the Hilton Palm Springs gives you prime access to the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Palm Springs Convention Center, a casino and an array of shops and restaurants. But there's plenty to do on-site, too. If you desire a quintessential Palm Springs vacation, relax by the outdoor pool or treat yourself to a Palm Springs-inspired treatment (think: desert stone massages) at the spa. You can also break a sweat in the hotel's fitness center, mingle with friends in Harvey's Lounge or savor casual American dishes at one of two restaurants. Previous visitors raved about the property's spa treatments, but some said the gym and the restaurant's breakfasts were nothing special. Most, however, were impressed with the hotel's tidy and spacious accommodations. Each has a neutral color palette with blue patterned carpets and colorful artwork, plus amenities like Hilton's signature beds, desks with ergonomic chairs, flat-screen TVs and patios or balconies. According to several past guests, room rates are a bit high when you factor in the property's cons, but if you're a Hilton Honors member, you can use rewards points to pay for your room.
