For travelers who enjoy the atmosphere and versatile amenities that all-inclusive resorts offer without the throng of vacationers and maze-like layout, El Dorado Maroma in Punta Maroma, Mexico (a coastal area about 10 miles northwest of Playa del Carmen) may be the perfect getaway. Each of the resort's 98 suites, bungalows and villas faces the teal waters of Maroma Beach or the property's tropical gardens and boasts neutral hues or bright Caribbean decor, a satellite TV, a minibar and a spacious balcony or terrace. Recent guests praised the well-appointed digs but warned that while El Dorado Maroma is technically a beachfront resort, the rooms aren't directly situated on the sandy strip. But if you crave waterfront accommodations, consider booking one of the property's overwater bungalows, which feature glass-bottom floors, private infinity pools and large decks with outdoor showers and ocean access. No matter which accommodation you choose, you'll enjoy beach butler service, access to three freshwater pools and a fitness center, Spanish lessons, complimentary use of kayaks and snorkeling gear and limitless meals and beverages at the resort's six restaurants and five bars. Though travelers give kudos to the variety of gourmet menu items, some wish the food had more of a Mexican flare. And though the spa services aren't part of your all-inclusive package, guests say the soothing treatments and massages are well worth the splurge.

This GRUPO IBEROSTAR outpost sits less than 14 miles northeast of the famous nightlife destination. At this all-inclusive property, you'll find Mexico-inspired touches like a lobby bar with a replica Chichén Itzá pyramid and a lazy river surrounded by lush vegetation. Past guests loved the spacious accommodations – which offer minibars, free Wi-Fi access and outdoor spaces – although a few suggested light sleepers ask for a suite on a higher floor and away from the main pool to avoid excessive noise.

If you value a resort's pool as much as its location and service, then Playa del Carmen, Mexico's Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya won't disappoint: This adults-only, all-inclusive property boasts one of the largest swimming pools in Mexico. However, the pool's mammoth size also means it's pretty popular with guests. In fact, recent visitors suggest setting a morning alarm to reserve your lounge chair, as the most coveted poolside and beachside seats are occupied by mid-morning. Think they're exaggerating? Take one look at the chalky sands of the adjacent Playa Del Secreto (The Secret Beach) and you'll see why lodgers forgo the extra sleep. If you can't stake out a primo spot, head to the spa for more secluded relaxation and enjoy facials, massages and body treatments. After a healthy dose of pampering, soak up the Caribbean Sea or pool views from your private furnished balcony or terrace. Accommodations also come equipped with free Wi-Fi access, stocked minibars, flat-screen TVs and marble bathrooms with separate showers and bathtubs. And if all the relaxation leaves you feeling famished, enjoy unlimited meals and drinks at one of seven on-site restaurants, which offer a range of international cuisines. Travelers especially recommend L'Olivo, the Italian-American eatery, and Ginger, a teppanyaki spot that dishes up Japanese-inspired dishes. An additional dining venue, The Corner, is also available, but keep in mind that charges apply for meals here.

If a romantic getaway is what you're after, consider a stay at the Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa Del Carmen. Favored among couples for its intimate atmosphere, peaceful rooms and stellar staff, the Mahekal Beach Resort continually impresses twosomes – and many even plan repeat visits to the property. Those traveling sans significant other say much of the same, especially in regards to the size of the resort, which lodgers describe as not too big and not too small. But that's not to say the resort skimps on amenities: Mahekal offers five on-site restaurants and bars (not including its pool bars), four pools, a spa, a fitness center, direct beach access and the Vida Aquatica Dive Center, which provides water sport rentals, fishing trips and snorkel tours on top of scuba certification and excursions. Guests ate up the thatched-roof accommodations and the palm trees that surround them. Standard rooms feature private terraces with hammocks, complimentary Wi-Fi access, bathrooms with walk-in showers and organic, Mayan-inspired bath amenities. The only complaint among recent lodgers? Those who stayed at Mahekal Beach Resort during Playa Del Carmen's music festivals (which typically occur in December and January) said a relaxing vacation is not easy to come by thanks to all the extra noise and guests.

Thanks to its downtown Playa del Carmen, Mexico, location, this Hilton outpost grants guests easy access to both the beach and area bars. Travelers can walk to the Riviera Maya's soft sands for some sun and then stroll over to Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue, home to the city's most-loved shops, restaurants and nightlife venues. But that's not the only reason why travelers rave about this adults-only resort: Guests compliment the hospitable staff, the quality of the food at the resort's seven restaurants and the variety of amenities the property's all-inclusive room rates cover. When nighttime rolls around, you'll bed down in spacious accommodations outfitted with two-person Jacuzzis, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi access and private terraces, balconies or patios. Some suites also boast direct beach or swim-up pool access. To save some coin, Hilton Honors rewards program members can cash in points here.
