#1 in Best Resorts in Vermont
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 5 based on 154 reviewsTripAdvisor (154)
    Free WiFi

This all-inclusive resort in Barnard, Vermont, wows guests with its tranquil atmosphere, ample amenities and impeccable service. Situated nearly 80 miles southeast of Burlington, Twin Farms sits on 300 forested acres and offers just 20 rooms. Lodgers can explore the adults-only property via the resort's bevy of activities, whether it's downhill skiing on Twin Farms' six groomed trails or canoeing across the on-site Copper Pond. What's more, all activities are covered by the resort's all-inclusive rate, along with a host of other amenities, including all meals and alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi access and evening bonfires with s'mores. Other on-site features include a spa and fitness center, tennis courts and bicycles – perfect for exploring the nearby town of Woodstock. Along with the bountiful activities, reviewers were also impressed with the accommodations, which range from rooms in the Main House to multi-level cottages. No matter which lodging type you choose, you'll find your digs outfitted with at least one fireplace, a fully stocked refrigerator, satellite TV and a selection of games, movies, music and puzzles. While recent visitors raved about the experience of staying at Twin Farms, they also warned that there is a high price to pay for this luxurious seclusion.

    The Lodge at Spruce Peak
    Stowe, VT
#2 in Best Resorts in Vermont
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3310 reviewsTripAdvisor (3310)
    Free WiFi
As its name implies, this lodge rests at the base of Stowe Mountain. So naturally, guests rave about the awe-inspiring views of the area's glistening lakes and towering peaks. Another major asset: The gondola to the slopes of Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak is just steps away from the hotel's door. Amenities are tailored to powder-hounds – there's even a ski and snowboard valet – but non-skiers can appreciate the stone-encased fireplaces, the heated outdoor pool and the exceptional in-house eateries. Guests also praise the treatments offered at The Spa and Wellness Center, many of which are inspired by American Indian traditions. What's more, the resort is pet-friendly, inviting four-legged friends weighing up to 100 pounds. Previous visitors also ensure a restful nights' sleep in the well-appointed accommodations, which come with sleek flat-screen TVs, sumptuous goose-down feather beds and marble bathrooms with bathtubs. Overall, recent guests enjoy their stays, while others advise the customer service could be better, especially considering there's a $40 daily resort fee.

Today, Stowe teems with high-end resorts, but Topnotch Resort stands out in more ways than one. Rooms lean toward the smaller side, but guests appreciate their cozy vibe, modern furnishings and comfortable beds. The lobby's stone walls and large mounted moose head evoke a classic ski-lodge atmosphere, but the 35,000-foot spa space is anything but dated. Multiple pools, a co-ed sauna and an indoor hot tub with a waterfall tantalize spa-goers, as do the countless available spa services. Another crowd-pleaser: the zesty culinary offerings available at the two on-site dining venues, Flannel and The Roost. What's more, the staff is said to be nothing short of topnotch.

The Equinox, a Luxury Collection Golf Resort & Spa, Vermont

Built in 1769, this property was a popular hunting hub for British loyalists. Now, the Marriott-owned Equinox resort pampers guests with modern comforts while still preserving some of its Old World charm. You can still take lessons in shooting and falconry, plus enjoy such activities as mountain biking, tennis and golf. Most travelers compliment the small but plush rooms and suites (there are 195 total between the property's two main buildings). Many cite peace and quiet as a reason for a return visit, but some note that with the older building comes thin walls. Upscale amenities, such as 400-thread-count linens, flat-screen TVs and down pillows, made up for any extra noise, though. And if you're a Marriott Bonvoy program member, you can receive extra perks like complimentary stays by choosing to stay here. Recent visitors praised the fine dining at the resort's four restaurants, but several were less than impressed with the service staff.

Woodstock Inn & Resort's perch near the heart of Woodstock, Vermont, serves as a convenient home base for exploring this quaint community. But despite its prime location, recent visitors said that the inn is far enough removed from downtown to still feel secluded. The guest rooms feature elegant wooden furnishings, plus modern additions like Keurig coffee makers, flat-screen TVs, plush robes and complimentary high-speed internet access. Guests particularly adore the resort's laid-back atmosphere, attentive staff and serene spa. When you've worked up an appetite, venture to one of the property's four restaurants. Past patrons highly recommend The Red Rooster, an intimate venue and AAA Four Diamond Award recipient. Guests also had high praise for the resort's attentive and friendly staff.

Located about 4 miles down the street from the Stowe Mountain Resort, this hotel serves as a great home-base for avid skiers. Recent guests applaud Stoweflake for its seclusion, yet easy access to Stowe's majestic peaks. Previous visitors say the extra touches, like cozy robes, large fireplaces and luxurious toiletries particularly made their stay memorable. Guests also appreciate on-site facilities, like the outdoor pool (and the adjacent Poolside Spa Café) and the varied cuisine (ranging from pan-Asian favorites to European delicacies) at Charlie B's Pub & Restaurant. The only qualm for some recent visitors was the rooms and guest houses could use a refresh and some felt that the resort prices did not reflect the room amenities. Overall, guests insist you get recommendations from the concierge, saying they make faboulous recommendations with a friendly attitude.

Foodies rejoice: This laid-back New England resort — located just east of Burlington in Essex Junction, Vermont — offers a bounty of culinary offerings. The Cook Academy is popular with recent guests for its private courses in sushi-rolling, pasta-making and baking using local ingredients. And there's fine-dining at the much-adored Junction and The Tavern restaurants as well. When you're ready to work off your meal, the resort allows the chance to swim in the indoor and outdoor pools, play tennis and test your golf game. Or if you would prefer to unwind, book a treatment at the tranquil, full-service spa. Afterward, cozy up in your comfortable accommodations, appointed with 300-thread-count linens, iPod docking stations and classic brick-enclosed fireplaces (in some suites).
