    Chicago Athletic Association
    Chicago, IL
#1 in Best Hotels in The Loop, Chicago
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2190 reviewsTripAdvisor (2190)
    Free WiFi

What recent visitors appreciate most about the Chicago Athletic Association hotel is its distinct point of view. The hotel is housed in the building that was once home to the Chicago Athletic Association, and its Venetian Gothic architecture dates back to the 1890s. Staying true to its athletic heritage, the hotel's designers repurposed elements of the original club into the property's vintage look. For instance, a pommel horse is used as a bench and nightstands feature tennis racquet leather grips for legs. Beyond the interesting aesthetics, rooms also offer boxing-style robes, complimentary Wi-Fi access, C.O. Bigelow toiletries and bedside tables with USB flash drive outlets. Aside from the unique interiors, travelers also rave about the rooftop restaurant, Cindy's. Housed within a vaulted glass and steel atrium, the space offers views of Millennium Park (situated across the street from the hotel), the Art Institute of Chicago and Lake Michigan. Equally impressive are the hotel's five other bars and eateries, ranging from an on-site Shake Shack to a more formal farm-to-table restaurant. Reviewers particularly liked the Game Room bar, which is located in the original billiards room of the athletic club and features games like shuffleboard and bocce ball. It should come as no surprise that the hotel also features a 24-hour fitness center with complimentary, trainer-led group runs along Lake Michigan every Saturday at 8 a.m. You can also get your workout in riding around the Windy City on the hotel's complimentary bikes (available seasonally).

With Lake Michigan as its backdrop, the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel Chicago combines Chicago's iconic views and its chic, urban design. Previous guests are blown away by the look of this relatively young hotel, describing the building's design as interesting and innovative. Within walking distance of Millennium Park and The Magnificent Mile, this Radisson – which falls within the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group brand – serves as an excellent home base for city exploration without appearing too tourist-focused. Recent guests say the Radisson Blu Aqua maintains a boutique hotel feel without sacrificing the high customer service standards hallmark to the brand. The stylishly designed rooms feature flat-screen TVs, single-service coffee makers and free Wi-Fi – an amenity for which previous guests are thankful. And though this property puts you near a variety of neighborhood eateries, visitors recommend the on-site Filini restaurant and bar for Italian cuisine and a lively atmosphere. Guests can also enjoy a wealth of rooftop amenities, from the lap pool and hot tub to the fire pit and deck chairs from which to take in Chicago's skyline. When the chilly Chicago weather comes, guests can make use of the indoor two-lane lap pool. Additionally, Club Carlson rewards program members can use their points here for free nights and upgrades.

    Kimpton Hotel Monaco Chicago
    Chicago, IL

#4 in Best Hotels in The Loop, Chicago
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2548 reviewsTripAdvisor (2548)
The Hotel Monaco Chicago lives up to many people's expectations of a Kimpton hotel, boasting bright, funky decor and an excellent location. Looking out over the Chicago River from its seat in the northeast corner of the Loop, this hotel stuns travelers with the Victorian-esque furnishings and bold patterns found throughout the hotel, including in the guest rooms. Accommodations also come with LCD televisions, honor bars and yoga mats, while kid- and pet-friendly amenities are available upon request. According to previous guests, fans of the Hotel Monaco style will enjoy a stay in the Chicago version, particularly because of the hotel's excellent customer service. IHG Rewards Club members will be able to get additional perks, like free Wi-Fi access, and can earn and redeem night credits here. But this property has a few unique characteristics worth noting. First, there are the in-room spa treatments. And let's not forget the flavorful Midwestern cuisine served at Fisk & Co., which travelers enjoy.

    Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel
    Chicago, IL
    0.4 miles to city center
#5 in Best Hotels in The Loop, Chicago
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1985 reviewsTripAdvisor (1985)

Sitting on the northern fringes of the Loop (near Chicago's theater district), the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel is a popular choice for business and leisure travelers alike. Less than a block from the State/Lake Station – which connects to the Green, Purple, Brown, Orange and Pink "L" train lines – the hotel's primo location makes it easy to explore beyond your digs. On top of its convenience, guests were also impressed with their stay at this Renaissance property. Visitors love the large amount of space in the stylish and comfortable guest rooms thanks to amenities like flat-screen TVs, designer linens and excellent city views (many recommend requesting a room facing the river). Additionally, the hotel features an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center. The customer service also leaves a good impression, with travelers saying that the staff were very friendly. But guests are quick to complain about the high cost of parking here, which will add $69 a day to your final bill, as well as the noise in rooms overlooking the "L" train line tracks. The in-house restaurant also gets knocked for its prices, though travelers do say the food is good. Those looking to save can use Marriott Bonvoy points to cover the cost of their room.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1792 reviewsTripAdvisor (1792)

Opened in January 2015, The Virgin Hotels Chicago, the first hotel introduced by Virgin Airline owner Richard Branson, puts a twist on the traditional guest room. Called "The Chambers," standard rooms include a separate "Dressing Room," complete with a closet, a makeup vanity and sliding doors for privacy, and the "Sleeping Lounge" with the bed. The patent-pending custom beds feature ergonomic headboards and optional footboards so you can work or watch TV without back pain. Recent visitors cited these innovative features, plus the fun, stylish decor and complimentary Wi-Fi access, as reasons for a return visit. When you're not exploring the Loop and River North districts, you can choose between working up a sweat in the 25th-floor fitness center, grabbing a meal at one of the two on-site restaurants. Night owls can dance and listen to live music at two on-site nightclubs, including the rooftop lounge, Cerise. The property also boasts a coffee bar that transitions into a wine bar in the evenings. While guests love the on-site offerings and modern amenities, they also praised the staff as friendly, prompt and knowledgeable of the Chicago area.

theWit, A DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel
    Chicago, IL
    0.4 miles to city center
#7 in Best Hotels in The Loop, Chicago
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2953 reviewsTripAdvisor (2953)

As its name suggests, theWit aims to entertain. The decor – with its bright colors and stained-glass windows – evokes an amusing feel, while stand-up comedy can often be heard over the speakers in the hallways and lobby. It's no surprise why theWit tries so hard to get a rise out of you: Its perch on the end of the theater district (next door to the Chicago Theater in the Loop) means that this hotel has some steep competition. But unlike the surrounding performance spaces, this DoubleTree-affiliated property has much more than jokes. Should you be a bigger fan of movies than stand-up, consider hosting a viewing party in the on-site movie theater. Or guests recommend spending some time on the rooftop bar or in the hotel spa – both venues are bound to please. And the fun doesn't have to stop at bedtime: Guests love playful amenities like smartphone docking station, touchscreen telephones and flat-screen TVs. Because this Chicago hotel falls into the Hilton profile, members of the Hilton Honors rewards program can earn and redeem points here.

    JW Marriott Chicago
    Chicago, IL
    0.4 miles to city center
#8 in Best Hotels in The Loop, Chicago
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1691 reviewsTripAdvisor (1691)

It took a $396 million renovation to restore this JW Marriott (a gorgeous former bank building) to its former architectural glory. And according to recent guests, it was money well spent. Situated just a block from the Chicago Board of Trade at the heart of the Loop, the JW Marriott Chicago impresses business travelers with its central location and leisure travelers with its well-equipped fitness center and 20,000-square-foot spa, Spa at JW Chicago. Meanwhile, everyone seems to agree that the guest rooms look great: Guests rave about the oversized bathrooms and modern in-room amenities like iPhone docks and flat-screen TVs. When they aren’t enjoying their accommodations, many visitors flock to the hotel bar and gourmet Italian eatery, The Florentine. But the real highlight of a stay here, according to many travelers, is the hotel's quality customer service. Although you shouldn't expect to be waited on hand and foot, visitors say that the JW Marriott Chicago's staff works hard to ensure a comfortable stay. What's more, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn or redeem points by choosing to bed down here.

    Palmer House, A Hilton Hotel
    Chicago, IL
    0.1 miles to city center
#9 in Best Hotels in The Loop, Chicago
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 10297 reviewsTripAdvisor (10297)

If this hotel's title of "North America's longest continually operating hotel" means anything, it's that the Palmer House knows how to keep its guests coming back time and again. Welcoming Chicago visitors since 1873, this iconic downtown mainstay is a favorite among travelers who want to experience a bit of bygone glamour. The Gilded Age lobby – and lobby bar – is opulent, and guests say it exudes Old World charm. The guest rooms, on the other hand, are not as grand. Guests report the lodgings are a little small compared to other Chicago hotels, but they do come equipped with creature comforts like flat-screen TVs, high-speed Internet access (for a fee) and, of course, the Hilton brand's signature Serenity beds. The Palmer House also boasts a fitness center and an indoor pool (an especially popular feature among those who stayed here with kids). When it's time for a meal, you can find a hearty menu of American cuisine at the Lockwood Restaurant. If you're a Hilton Honors member, you can collect or cash in points by staying here.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 3488 reviewsTripAdvisor (3488)

The Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park can be found inside the Loop – close to both Millennium Park (of course) and the Magnificent Mile – in a place that makes it a convenient jumping-off point for sightseeing. A relatively recent revamp brought this AccorHotels property to the forefront of style, with the lobby and guest rooms now boasting contemporary furnishings and decor, like flat-screen HDTVs and marble bathrooms with separate tubs and showers. Although they're fond of this hotel's location and appearance, some guests said the rooms were on the small side and numerous visitors noted inconsistent customer service. Still, a stay here will grant you access to an 11,000-square-foot spa and a small fitness center, though spa treatments can be pricey. And when it comes to dining, the gastropub cuisine served at the in-house restaurant, Columbus Tap, a favorite among guests and locals alike. Members of the Le Club AccorHotels program can enjoy special perks (like free access to the gym) by choosing to stay here.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 5284 reviewsTripAdvisor (5284)

Offering impressive views of Navy Pier, The Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park, the Swissôtel Chicago is most popular among recent guests for its unbeatable location. And because it's situated on a quiet stretch of Chicago's East Wacker Drive, guests say the hotel allows travelers to get close to the downtown bustle without the added city noise. The only common gripe is this Swissôtel's expensive parking fees, which some guests were able to avoid by parking in a public lot a few blocks away. Still, travelers who have stayed here are willing to put up with parking woes, saying that the property is top-notch and the staff is quite accommodating. Plus, members of Le Club AccorHotels, the brand's loyalty program, can pay for rooms with accrued points. Along with its convenient position amid the downtown cityscape, Swissôtel also boasts spacious rooms with marble bathrooms, LCD TVs, iPod docking stations and in, some rooms, Lake Michigan and Navy Pier vistas. Among its other amenities are a fitness center, an indoor pool and a spacious event center; the hotel also houses three restaurants – Geneva Restaurant, The Palm Restaurant and Amuse – all of which garner consistent praise from travelers.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 2799 reviewsTripAdvisor (2799)

The W Chicago - City Center (located in the Loop, less than a mile east of the Art Institute of Chicago) is known for its trendy attire and almost cavernous feel. Like many W Hotels, this Chicago iteration is geared toward hip couples and savvy business folk. The color scheme is deep violet and gray and there is thumping techno and house music playing nearly nonstop in the lobby. Many travelers report satisfaction with their W Chicago - City Center experience. Recent guests describe the rooms as comfortable (albeit a little dark) and praise the in-suite amenities, which include 42-inch plasma TVs, iPod docking stations, Bliss Spa bath products and snack boxes. (Some recent guests do note that standard rooms are on the smaller side.) Other perks that come with a stay at this W include access to a fitness center and in-room spa services, as well as comfort items for your four-legged friends. Meanwhile, the on-site restaurant, IPO, garners compliments for its "New Urban" cuisine and chic atmosphere. Situated on the northern edge of the Loop, the Hyatt Regency Chicago is convenient to both The Magnificent Mile and Grant Park. In addition to its excellent Chicago location, recent travelers also praise the hotel's guest rooms, which boast simple (yet stylish) decor, flat-screen TVs, floor-to-ceiling windows and free high-speed Internet access. Some travelers do note that the walls are thin, so if you're a light sleeper, you may want to request a room on a higher floor to avoid late night street noise. Previous visitors are also quick to compliment this Hyatt's customer service staff, which they describe as friendly and welcoming – if you get to meet them. Another point of contention is the $63 a night parking charge. However, there are numerous perks to staying here. Guests of the Hyatt Regency Chicago are welcome to use the hotel fitness center, and the in-house restaurants –particularly Stetsons Modern Steak + Sushi – earn compliments for their cuisine. Additionally, members of the Hyatt Gold Passport rewards program can also earn and redeem points here.
