    The Merrion Hotel
    Dublin, D
    0.5 miles to city center
#1 in Best Hotels in Dublin
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 5 based on 3932 reviewsTripAdvisor (3932)
What was once separate Georgian-style townhouses in downtown Dublin is now the elegant Merrion Hotel, highly regarded for its first-class style and service. The 142-room property is home to the Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, the only restaurant in Ireland with two Michelin stars, as well as The Cellar Bar, which is housed in the original 18th-century wine vaults. There is also No. 23, an intimate cocktail bar that's popular with locals, and the full-service spa, where the property's fitness center, steam room, sauna and infinity-edge swimming pool are housed. Guest rooms and suites are decorated in a muted palette inspired by Paul Henry's landscape paintings and feature furniture either from or reminiscent of 18th-century Dublin. Standard room amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, writing desks, fully stocked minibars and Italian Carrara marble bathrooms. Recent guests said the rooms were beautiful but recommended asking for one above the first floor for the best garden views. Others wished the bathrooms had more than one sink, though they did appreciate that the rooms themselves were updated and clean. And as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, this property participates in the Leaders Club rewards program.

#2 in Best Hotels in Dublin
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4326 reviewsTripAdvisor (4326)

Although The Shelbourne Dublin, A Renaissance Hotel is known among locals as a storied landmark, recent guests had very mixed reviews about the hotel. While a handful of travelers definitely enjoyed their time at this Marriott outpost, others noted poor customer service and dated rooms.. Some expressed frustration that they did not receive advance notice about the hotel’s construction, while others complained of inattentive service, especially at the restaurant and bar.  Some guests found the rooms to be top-notch, with amenities like queen beds with pillow-top mattresses, flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, minibars, coffee makers and marble bathrooms. Others, though, thought the rooms were outdated, and several said their rooms were not ready when they arrived. Plus, some travelers complained that the rooms got too hot, even during the winter. Dining options include two restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and three bars and lounges that serve lunch and dinner in addition to a plethora of drinks. At the 1824 Bar, you can sample rare whiskey, while you can enjoy an afternoon tea at the Lord Mayor’s Lounge. Other on-site amenities include a fitness center with personal training services and fitness classes as well as an indoor infinity pool and spa with salon services. You can find The Shelbourne Dublin in the center of Dublin, right across the street from St. Stephen’s Green. Located next to Dublin's Westbury Mall near the Trinity College campus, St. Stephen's Green and Grafton Street's pubs and eateries, The Westbury offers visitors convenient digs in the heart of the city. While the property's prime address was one of the highlights for recent guests, the Westbury also won over lodgers with its accommodations. All of the property's 205 guest rooms and suites feature neutral interiors with furnishings by George Smith and Blanc d'Ivoire, marble bathrooms with heated floors, complimentary Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and Nespresso coffee machines. Suites offer additional living space, and the upgraded Presidential Suite includes perks like a private sauna and steam room and personal concierges for arranging extras like butler services and in-room fitness equipment. Many past guests praised the rooms for being comfortable and spacious, though some said daily rates were a bit high for the area and noted noise in accommodations on lower floors and in the front of the hotel. Service was also hit or miss. Some cited attentive and friendly employees during their stays, while others said receptionists and restaurant staff were slow. However, visitors give consistently high reviews for WILDE restaurant's breakfasts and The Sidecar's cocktails. Part of The Leading Hotels of the World, the property participates in the Leaders Club loyalty program.

The building, originally constructed as a 19th-century bank, anchors Westmoreland Street and sits among the many shops and restaurants of Dublin's entertainment district. Of course, the hotel is also close to numerous pubs, and it's less than a 10-minute walk from the popular Temple Bar. Additional nearby attractions within walking distance of this Westin include St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle and Grafton Street. Inside, the Westin Dublin retains its Irish charm through dark wood features and leather furnishings. Each guest room boasts complimentary Wi-Fi access, a coffee machine, a LED TV and a marble bathroom. However, some guests felt their accommodations were outdated and could use an upgrade. Situated just beyond Dublin's busy city center, the Ariel House makes visitors feel at home. The staff welcomes guests with tea and "will never turn away an early arrival," according to its website. Visitors say breakfast at the Ariel House is a treat, with the kitchen using fresh and local ingredients to prepare smoked salmon, poached eggs, homemade granola and more. Guests commend the staff for being attentive and helpful 24 hours a day. Music lovers will feel right at home at The Gibson Hotel, which is the closest lodging option to Dublin's 3Arena (a music and entertainment complex). From the second floor painting of Bono to the modern, music-themed decor, the hotel consistently reminds guests they're near one of Ireland's most famous concert venues. The 252-room hotel offers superior rooms, executive rooms and suites, which all include complimentary Wi-Fi and gym access. Guest rooms also include flat-screen TVs, coffee machines, laptop-sized safes and air conditioning. Travelers praise the hotel's large rooms and attentive staff, but some visitors complained about how crowded the property (and its bar and restaurant) gets when the 3Arena holds events. If you happen to be attending a show though, the hotel's Coda Restaurant is the perfect place to order a bite to eat before the concert. The Gibson Hotel draws additional guests due to its proximity to the Dublin Port and a variety of tech hubs, including the Facebook and Google campuses. Although The Gibson Hotel is a long walk from attractions such as Trinity College and Temple Bar, a tram stops outside the hotel that transports travelers to the center of Dublin.

Hilton fans will be pleased to find a Conrad property right in the heart of Dublin. The hotel's accommodations, with options for twin beds or king-sized beds, are complete with blackout curtains, workspaces, flat-screen TVs, 300-thread-count sheets and 24-hour housekeeping services. Downstairs, guests can sip afternoon tea at Lemuel's Tea Time or taste one of the craft beers and whiskeys at Alfie Byrne's by Galway Bay Brewery. Despite these posh offerings, many loyal Conrad visitors did not think the Dublin location was up to par with the brand's typical standards, noting it not as luxurious as other Conrads properties they've stayed in around the world. The hotel's location is one of its top redeeming qualities: The building overlooks the National Concert Hall and is surrounded by many natural spaces, including St. Stephen's Green. After a quick walk through the park, guests should explore bustling Grafton Street and its endless shops and pubs. Since Conrad Dublin is part of the Hilton brand, guests can use Hilton Honors rewards points to cover rates and enjoy additional perks.

Dublin's historic Georgian Quarter houses famous architecture, signature row houses and The Irish House of Parliament as well as the renowned Number 31 hotel. This hotel stands out for its use of light texture and design to bring a modern feel to a historic building. Each of its 21 rooms come equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi access, organic toiletries, a safe and a TV. However, some guests noted their accommodations, which are located in either a town house or a coach house (connected by a garden), were small and could use some upgrades. The hotel aims to make guests feel at home with its communal breakfast each morning in the glass conservatory room. Visitors rave about the breakfast food, specifically the cranberry and orange nut bread. On a sunny day, some may choose to take a short walk to St. Stephen's Green, where many Dubliners enjoy having picnics or bringing their children to the playground. Other nearby attractions that sit within walking distance include the National Gallery of Ireland and Grafton Street, which features numerous shops.

This building first opened its doors in 1861 as St. Stephen's Parochial School, but the property's former classrooms now serve as guest rooms at the Schoolhouse Hotel. In-room amenities include LED TVs, free Wi-Fi access and air conditioning, while on-site perks include free parking and complimentary tea and cookies. The hotel's designers preserved the tall chimneys, wooden staircases, open fireplaces and other schoolhouse features that give the building character. The restaurant's kitchen was even once used to teach young schoolgirls domestic skills. Today, diners sit in the same room and savor dishes like mussels and chips (fries), Irish lamb pie and seafood chowder. While many past guests enjoy the food, a few complain about the slow service in the dining room. The hotel sits in the quiet neighborhood of Ballsbridge, slightly removed from central Dublin. Guests flock to the Schoolhouse Hotel to enjoy the surrounding area's versatile offerings: St. Stephen's Green and other top Dublin attractions are about a 20-minute walk away. And for any visitors interested in sports, the Irish soccer and rugby teams host matches at nearby Aviva Stadium.
