TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 5 based on 364 reviewsTripAdvisor (364)

Ballyfin Demense is a world-renowned hotel, located within a castle-like structure in County Laois, Ireland. It was originally built in the 1820s for Sir Charles Coote and reopened in 2011 as a hotel after years of restoration. The estate's 614 acres are filled with wildlife, gardens, trails and picnic spots. Guests can participate in activities like tennis, boating, horseback riding, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, archery and falconry (some require an additional fee). On-site gardens, along with hens and bees, provide numerous ingredients for the restaurants, and other ingredients are locally sourced from nearby farmers and fishermen. The Cellar Bar has an extensive list of local whiskeys, and regular whiskey tastings are available. The 20 individually decorated guest rooms and suites are filled with period furniture, antiques, complimentary soft drink minibars, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi access, Egyptian cotton linens and complimentary laundry services. For a truly memorable stay, reserve the Sir Christopher Coote suite which features 18th-century Chinese wallpaper panels, a separate sitting room, a fireplace and large windows with views of the grounds and lake. Recent guests described the hotel as excellent, especially raving about the white-glove service, palatial grounds and decor. While a stay here is not cheap, many guests said the experience was more than worth it.

What was once four separate Georgian-style townhouses in downtown Dublin is now the elegant Merrion Hotel, highly regarded for its first-class style and service. The 142-room property is home to the Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, the only restaurant in Ireland with two Michelin stars, as well as The Cellar Bar, which is housed in the original 18th-century wine vaults. There is also No. 23, an intimate cocktail bar that's popular with locals, and the full-service Tethra Spa, where the property's fitness center, steam room and infinity-edge swimming pool are housed. Guest rooms and suites are decorated in a white and pastel color palette inspired by Paul Henry's landscape paintings and feature furniture either from or reminiscent of 18th-century Dublin. Standard room amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, writing desks, fully stocked minibars and Italian Carrara marble bathrooms. Recent guests said the rooms were beautiful but recommended asking for one above the first floor for the best garden views. Others wished the bathrooms had more than one sink, though they did appreciate that the rooms themselves were updated and clean. And as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, this property participates in the Leaders Club rewards program.

Located next to Dublin's Westbury Mall near the Trinity College campus, St. Stephen's Green and Grafton Street's pubs and eateries, The Westbury offers visitors convenient digs in the heart of the city. While the property's prime address was one of the highlights for recent guests, the Westbury also won over lodgers with its accommodations. All of the property's 205 guest rooms and suites feature neutral interiors with furnishings by George Smith and Blanc d'Ivoire, marble bathrooms with heated floors, complimentary Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and Nespresso coffee machines. Suites offer additional living space, and the upgraded Presidential Suite includes perks like a private sauna and steam room and personal concierges for arranging extras like butler services and in-room fitness equipment. Many past guests praised the rooms for being comfortable and spacious, though some said daily rates were a bit high for the area and noted noise in accommodations on lower floors and in the front of the hotel. Service was also hit or miss. Some cited attentive and friendly employees during their stays, while others said receptionists and restaurant staff were slow. However, visitors give consistently high reviews for WILDE restaurant's breakfasts and The Sidecar's cocktails. Part of The Leading Hotels of the World, the property participates in the Leaders Club loyalty program.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2721 reviewsTripAdvisor (2721)

If you're looking to get the full Irish experience, a stay at the Lough Eske Castle is essential. The hotel is located in a castle that belonged to the same clan that founded the town in which it resides. Donegal Town, which was founded in the 1400s, is located in northwest Ireland and offers up what guests have described as a fairytale-like setting – perfectly manicured grounds and deep green forestry as far as the eye can see. What's more, the lough (or lake) is just steps from the hotel. But location isn't the only thing that this property has going for it. Guests raved about the amenities and attentive service. Standard rooms are outfitted with bespoke wood furniture, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, bathrooms with separate showers and tubs and robes and slippers. On-site, guests can unwind at the spa, which features an indoor pool overlooking the grounds, or take part in a variety of adventure activities that can be arranged by the hotel, including golfing, fishing, equestrian activities and even archery, among many more. For dining, there is Cedars Grill, the hotel's main restaurant, and Gallery Bar, which serves a bistro menu for lunch and dinner, as well as a traditional afternoon tea.

According to recent travelers, Hayfield Manor feels like the set of "Downton Abbey." As you pull up to this property in southern Ireland, you'll notice foliage climbing along much of the three-story building's brick exterior. Inside, you'll find traditional manor house features like dark wood furniture, neutral color palettes and crown molding throughout the hotel's 88 accommodations. Though the property maintains design elements from its early 19th-century roots, it also embraces the needs of 21st-century guests: Each guest room and suite offers a variety of modern amenities, including a heated towel rack in the marble bathroom, a flat-screen TV with a DVD player, free Wi-Fi and a voltage power converter. To work on your putting game before hitting the links (there are five golf courses within 15 miles of the property), practice with your in-room golf putters. When you're ready to explore the property, visit the on-site spa or enjoy afternoon tea or dinner in Orchids Restaurant.
