    Windsor Court Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
    1 mile to city center
#1 in Best Hotels in Louisiana
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1889 reviewsTripAdvisor (1889)
The Windsor Court Hotel, which recently underwent a $15 million renovation, is beloved by New Orleans travelers for a variety of reasons. There's the view of the Mississippi River as seen from the higher-up balconies or bay windows, and the kind and courteous staff members that go above and beyond in customer service, according to visitors. That's not to mention the delicious and refined Southern eats served in The Grill Room. Other nice features include Polo Club Lounge's live contemporary jazz performances five nights a week, or the housekeeping staff's twice-daily room cleaning. Rooms come equipped with a blend of English and French decor, Italian marble baths, minibars and complimentary Wi-Fi access. You'll also find a full-service spa, fitness center and rooftop pool at this NOLA favorite. Windsor Court is located on Gravier Street, within walking distance of some of the city's top sites like the National World War II Museum. What's more, members of the iPrefer rewards program can earn or use points for staying here.

    The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans
    New Orleans, LA
    1.3 miles to city center
#2 in Best Hotels in Louisiana
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3480 reviewsTripAdvisor (3480)
Even in a city like New Orleans, where hotels wear quirky like a badge of honor, the typicalness of this Ritz branch sits well with travelers. Sitting on the edge of the French Quarter, the Ritz keeps things distinctly local with decor that's reflective of the Garden District's antebellum mansions. Guests report that the rooms are pristine, boasting neoclassical furnishings, Italian marble baths, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and floor-to-ceiling windows. Recent lodgers recommend booking a room in the front of the hotel if you want to avoid the Canal Street din. Staying true to its roots, the Ritz also offers two eateries with distinct NOLA flavors. And if you need a break from The Big Easy's rowdy atmosphere, unwind at the hotel's day spa. Yes, this Canal Street hotel is expensive, but many say it's more than worth shelling out the cash. And if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, you can earn or score complimentary extras by choosing to stay here. Still, some recent guests note that this hotel doesn't live up to the Ritz-Carlton standards they are used to in terms of service.

#3 in Best Hotels in Louisiana
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 5034 reviewsTripAdvisor (5034)
The Royal Sonesta New Orleans recently underwent an extensive renovation, revealing 483 newly updated guest rooms. What's more, the property owns more than 7,000 contemporary works of art, many of which can be found on display throughout the hotel. Travelers praise the tip-top, Euro-tinged decor and the clean rooms, which are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minifridges, Keurig coffee makers, robes and beds with pillow-top mattresses. Recent guests also recommend upgrading from a regular room to one of the R Club Concierge Level accommodations, if it fits into your budget. You'll receive access to a lounge with 24-hour concierge service, free breakfast, tea and cocktails, plus complimentary use of a computer. Recent guests who booked one of the interior R Club rooms report hearing little to no noise from busy Bourbon Street. However, that is not the case for all other rooms on the property, which can let in a fair amount of street noise.

    Hotel Monteleone
    New Orleans, LA
    1.3 miles to city center
#5 in Best Hotels in Louisiana
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 8881 reviewsTripAdvisor (8881)
The Hotel Monteleone has boarded the who's who of American literati, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, to name a few. Even some of the new class (like Anne Rice, Winston Groom and John Grisham) have stayed here for a night or two. The hotel's revolving Carousel Bar & Lounge has become an icon that features prominently in books and movies about the city of New Orleans. In other words, the Hotel Monteleone is an institution. As such, it's hard to determine whether previous guests' opinions of their stay are based on quality or legacy. Some patrons gush over the hotel's charm, while others complain of cramped rooms and a dated look and feel. Rooms include Keurig coffee makers, HDTVs and iHome radios. Most everyone agrees, though, that the staff here is very personable and the location is superb. The Hotel Monteleone sits on Royal Street in the French Quarter.

The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
    1.2 miles to city center
#6 in Best Hotels in Louisiana
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4526 reviewsTripAdvisor (4526)
A hotel can be old, but it certainly shouldn't look old. Case in point: The historic Roosevelt, a classic among the lodging offerings of New Orleans, had begun to show a little wear before Hurricane Katrina. After that setback, the owners used it as an opportunity to close, renovate and resuscitate their fledgling stamp on luxury. Part of Waldorf Astoria's esteemed collection, The Roosevelt New Orleans has been able to preserve its legendary status while keeping up with the evolving standard of luxury. Recent lodgers gush over the comfortable rooms and their high-quality furniture (leather chairs and couches, in some cases), and appreciate modern features like the high-speed internet access (for a fee) and two flat-screen TVs. The staff members also win over recent patrons for being exceptionally accommodating. What's more, the legendary Sazerac Bar is reminiscent of the happening spot it was in the days of Louis Armstrong and Huey P. Long. You can find The Roosevelt New Orleans right off Canal Street, on Roosevelt Way. And if you're a Hilton Honors member, you can earn or redeem reward points here for perks.
