Built in 1910 in the style of a belle epoque palace at the request of King Alfonso XIII, the Hotel Ritz, Madrid has remained a symbol of luxury in Madrid's Golden Triangle art district. This Mandarin Oriental-affiliated property is within steps of various shopping and dining establishments, as well as some of the city's most iconic attractions, including the Prado Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Inside, there is a full-service spa and fitness center, five elegantly appointed meeting and event venues, the Krug Bar (which serves caviar and rare Champagne like Krug Clos du Mesnil) and Goya Restaurant & Terrace, a Spanish-, French- and Basque-influenced fine dining establishment with high ceilings and chandeliers. The hotel blends the elegance of its building, the 19th-century residence of the Duke of Santo Mauro, with contemporary luxuries. The iron gates, ornate lobby and spiral staircases reflect the building's storied past while the muted tones and sleek furniture of the guest rooms incorporate modern-day style. Guest rooms come equipped with minibars, coffee makers, free Wi-Fi access, cable TV and work desks. Downstairs, The Gin Bar and The Santo Mauro Gardens serve international bites. Meanwhile, La Biblioteca Restaurant offers elegant Mediterranean food in the Duke's former library. The hotel also boasts seven event spaces and offers AV equipment, projectors, copy services, printing services and more. However, some hotel guests felt the private event crowds detracted from the hotel's small boutique feel.
