Like any Hard Rock worth its name, this one in Biloxi, Mississippi, boasts music paraphernalia, live shows and nighttime entertainment. The pool area is scenic with cushy cabanas and poolside service. The drinks may not be flowing freely, but there is food aplenty at this Hard Rock's eight eateries, from the fine dining at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse to late night ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. The rooms are decorated with flat-screen TVs, iHome docking stations and signature "Sleep like a Rock" beds. Down at the casino, you'll have your choice of more than 1,200 slots and 50 table games. Guests should note that there is a daily $12 resort fee applied to the final bill, but that it covers the cost of parking – including valet – and Wi-Fi access. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi sits on Beach Boulevard, between the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino and the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art.

As can the Monmouth Historic Inn's elegant Restaurant 1818, which claims to be one of the "only true remaining Antebellum dining experiences." Amenities you'll find in all the rooms and suites include free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Guests are also treated to complimentary breakfast and evening snacks. Plus, the hospitality staff gets top marks, specifically the bellmen and bartenders. Home to more than 800 slot machines and many table games, the smoke-free casino is the main draw of Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi. You don't have to be a card shark to enjoy a getaway to the Palace Casino Resort though, because the property offers an assortment of additional amenities. Pure, the on-site spa, features a menu of detox treatments and massages for travelers seeking relaxation. Alternatively, guests can golf at The Preserve Golf Club, an 18-hole course designed to integrate the area's native surroundings. Those traveling with kids or hoping to soak up some sun can opt to spend the afternoon by the pool. After working up an appetite, guests have a few options for meals, including a steak and seafood fine dining restaurant, an all-you-can-eat buffet, a poolside bar and a standard grill. The resort also offers two lounges as well as a cafe and bakery. After an eventful day, visitors can retire to a modern room or suite, which all include coastal images taken by local photographers. Accommodations come standard with flat-screen TVs, minifridges, coffee makers and free Wi-Fi access, but a handful of recent guests warn that thin walls can be problematic.

All of Biloxi's top accommodations blend lodging with gambling, but at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, the 24-hour gaming floor is an attraction in its own right. By making this your home base, you'll also be privy to cozy accommodations. Guests favorably recall Italian marble floors and indulgent soaking tubs in the resort's guest rooms, which also feature flat-screen TVs and Keurig coffee makers. The dining areas are also well-liked, though you should keep in mind that this is a casino hotel and the dining areas (fine dining establishments, casual spots and a handful of bars and lounges) are occasionally smoky. When you need a break from resort life, city sights like the Beauvoir home or the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art are just a quick car ride away. This resort sits on Beach Boulevard down by the Biloxi Bay.

The comfortable beds are often guests' deciding factor on whether to return to Biloxi's IP Casino Resort Spa. Several describe the mattresses as some of the best they've slept on in a hotel. If they have their choice, they'd take the king-sized (found in all the suites and optional in the deluxe rooms), but the queens are also well-liked. Beyond the beds, guests also rave about the stellar service they encountered at IP, as well as the abundant food choices available at the resort's seven dining establishments, including two AAA Four Diamond Award-winning fine dining restaurants. On-site features like the outdoor pool and the well-equipped fitness center win favor with guests, and gaming in the 70,000-square-foot casino doesn't disappoint, either. One consistent note of disappointment, however, was the strong odor of smoke that lingered throughout the property. And keep in mind that IP faces the Back Bay of Biloxi, Mississippi, so it's a little farther from Biloxi's top attractions.

The Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, Mississippi, throws many amenities your way — a calming spa and the Viking Cooking School to name two. Recent guests rave about its sophisticated guest rooms and suites, which include oversized marble bathrooms, custom-designed furniture and art by Mississippi artists. What's more, this property features a 24-hour fitness center, a business center and a complimentary breakfast daily. Aside from its amenities, The Alluvian Hotel is also a good spot to bed down if you're in the midst of a Mississippi Delta tour. The city of Greenwood boasts a marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail because it's where guitarist B.B. King performed his first live broadcast — in 1940 at the WGRM radio station on Howard Street. Plus, this town provided the backdrop for much of the blockbuster hit "The Help." Greenwood is about 260 miles from Biloxi.

This hotel's newly renovated accommodations feature flat-screen TVs, pillow-top beds, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and coffee makers. But most visitors don't come for this massive property's guest rooms. Travelers rave about the hotel's 24-hour casino, which houses a variety of table games and slot machines. Once you've hit the jackpot, dine at one of five on-site eateries. Previous guests especially loved Flavors Buffet's diverse offerings. When you're not at the casino, lounge by the property's pool or enjoy a massage at the 16,000-square-foot Bellissimo Spa & Salon. Previous travelers heaped praise upon the staff members, attention to detail and well-designed rooms at this small boutique property in Oxford, Mississippi. The Chancellor's House offers 31 rooms and suites decorated in neutral hues of white, beige, gray and blue. In-room amenities include flat-screen TVs, butler services, Keurig coffee makers, free Wi-Fi access and bathrooms with dual sinks, a shower and a separate soaking tub. The property can also host weddings, meetings and events in its function space: Venues vary from the Grand Ballroom (with chandeliers and elegant wall sconces) for grandiose affairs to the Tea Room for more intimate gatherings. Other on-site facilities range from a rooftop lounge to a cozy library with a fireplace and various books. When it comes to dining, Chancellor's Grill is the hotel's fine dining option, and the Lobby Lounge is where visitors can retreat for small bites and cocktails. However, previous guests do warn that meals at the upscale dining venue are pricey. You'll find The Chancellor's House in central Oxford, about a mile east of the University of Mississippi campus.

The Golden Nugget Biloxi is situated in southeastern Biloxi, Mississippi, across the street from the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum and within walking distance of the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art. Like other hotels in the area, the property features a casino with slot machines and table games, as well as a concert venue and multiple restaurants, including a buffet-style eatery and a steakhouse. Recent travelers were especially fond of the buffet's breakfast selection and the casino's abundance of games, though some wished they didn't have to walk through the casino to reach the check-in area. Other available facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center, three bars and lounges, a spa and more than 22,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The Ameristar Casino Hotel Vicksburg's accommodations come appointed with flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi access and whirlpool tubs (in some suites). But that's not all this Vicksburg, Mississippi, property has going for it. Past visitors compliment the 70,000-square-foot casino filled with 36 table games and a 10-table poker room. And though the hotel's dining venues and casino are located off the property grounds – visitors will need to take the hotel's complimentary shuttle – past guests assure that the gaming is worth the trek. As far as dining goes, recent guests had mixed feelings about the fare served at the property's restaurants, which range from a buffet to a steakhouse. Visitors were more complimentary of the hotel's pool and hot tub (open seasonally). And though the property boasts a variety of amenities, some recent guests were disappointed there wasn't a fitness center. Another drawback was the customer service, which recent guests found to be disappointing. You'll find this Ameristar outpost situated off Interstate 20 along the border of Mississippi and Louisiana.
