Travelers say that the guest rooms – appointed with exposed brick, hardwood floors, goose-down bedding and walk-in rain showers – provide the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, although several recent guests were not thrilled with the housekeeping services. Those visiting Montreal with a large group note that the hotel's accommodating employees (and 10,000 square feet of function space) make Le Place d'Armes an easy choice for conventions and family reunions. Plus, the hotel offers guests complimentary high-speed internet in all its rooms, a much-appreciated perk for those visiting on business. And the hotel's seat in Vieux-Montreal, about a block west of Notre-Dame Basilica, entices all travelers, no matter their reason for visiting. Should you have some down time after touring the city, make an appointment at the 3,000-square-foot Rainspa or take in the view (and a cocktail) at the rooftop Terrasse Place d'Armes. The hotel also houses two additional eateries: Kyo Bar Japonais offers an extensive sushi menu, while Brasserie 701 serves French comfort food.

Occupying what was once the headquarters of Mr. A.F. Gault's 19th-century textile industry, Hotel Gault offers Montreal visitors a trendy place to hang their hat. The renovated building now houses 30 spacious suites with exposed brick walls, expansive French windows and custom oak cabinetry. Located in Vieux-Montreal – just a few blocks north of Notre-Dame Basilica – the Auberge du Vieux-Port makes a convenient home base for those looking to explore the city's waterfront and historic sites. Travelers enjoy the hotel's "very French" atmosphere, describing the guest rooms' exposed brick or stone walls and hardwood floors as trendy yet cozy, though some thought the rooms were a tad too small. Accommodations also come with flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and complimentary Wi-Fi access, though many guests cite the beds (outfitted with hypoallergenic bedding) as the rooms' best assets. Previous visitors also commend the courteous and helpful staff, who they say go above and beyond to understand guests' preferences and cater to their individual needs. Breakfast is included in the nightly room rate, and although the hotel is surrounded by Old Montreal's thriving food scene, travelers recommend sticking around for dinner at Taverne Gaspar, which features a gastropub-inspired menu and unbeatable views of the St. Lawrence River.

With a name like "Vogue," it should come as no surprise that this member of the Loews Hotel family is lauded by recent guests for its style. Travelers rave about the airy white and gray decor in the guest rooms, which also come appointed with framed vintage Vogue magazine covers and flat-screen TVs, complimentary high-speed internet access, Jacuzzi tubs and Comfort Zone bath products. For the best views (and an escape from late-night noise), previous travelers recommend asking for a room on a higher floor facing Rue de la Montagne, which they say is pleasantly quiet. The Loews Hôtel Vogue can be found near the southern corner of the McGill University campus, with many of Montreal's top attractions within easy reach. The W brand's signature swanky style doesn't quite blend into the W Montréal's Old City location, but guests don't seem to mind. Recent visitors praised this hotel's decor, characterized by bright colors and contemporary furnishings and its gracious hotel staff. Guest rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows and are dressed in airy blues and browns. And each accommodation is outfitted with a 42-inch flat-screen LCD TV, Bliss bath products and high-speed internet access (for a fee). Some guests note that late night noise from the hotel's three nightlife venues – Wunderbar, Plateau Lounge and Bartini – can disturb a peaceful slumber and recommend a room on a higher floor for more quiet. The W also boasts the Être Avec Toi (Ê.A.T) restaurant, which serves local flavors within an art gallery. And for an extra dose of relaxation, the AWAY Spa is at your disposal. And because this hotel is part of the Marriott hotel family, both Starwood Preferred Guest members and Marriott Rewards members can earn and use points here.
