    Windsor Court Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
#1 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1889 reviewsTripAdvisor (1889)
    Free WiFi

The Windsor Court Hotel, which recently underwent a $15 million renovation, is beloved by New Orleans travelers for a variety of reasons. There's the view of the Mississippi River as seen from the higher-up balconies or bay windows, and the kind and courteous staff members that go above and beyond in customer service, according to visitors. That's not to mention the delicious and refined Southern eats served in The Grill Room. Other nice features include Polo Club Lounge's live contemporary jazz performances five nights a week, or the housekeeping staff's twice-daily room cleaning. Rooms come equipped with a blend of English and French decor, Italian marble baths, minibars and complimentary Wi-Fi access. You'll also find a full-service spa, fitness center and rooftop pool at this NOLA favorite. Windsor Court is located on Gravier Street, within walking distance of some of the city's top sites like the National World War II Museum. What's more, members of the iPrefer rewards program can earn or use points for staying here.

    The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans
    New Orleans, LA
#2 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3480 reviewsTripAdvisor (3480)

Even in a city like New Orleans, where hotels wear quirky like a badge of honor, the typicalness of this Ritz branch sits well with travelers. Sitting on the edge of the French Quarter, the Ritz keeps things distinctly local with decor that's reflective of the Garden District's antebellum mansions. Guests report that the rooms are pristine, boasting neoclassical furnishings, Italian marble baths, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and floor-to-ceiling windows. Recent lodgers recommend booking a room in the front of the hotel if you want to avoid the Canal Street din. Staying true to its roots, the Ritz also offers two eateries with distinct NOLA flavors. And if you need a break from The Big Easy's rowdy atmosphere, unwind at the hotel's day spa. Yes, this Canal Street hotel is expensive, but many say it's more than worth shelling out the cash. And if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, you can earn or score complimentary extras by choosing to stay here. Still, some recent guests note that this hotel doesn't live up to the Ritz-Carlton standards they are used to in terms of service.

The Royal Sonesta New Orleans recently underwent an extensive renovation, revealing 483 newly updated guest rooms. What's more, the property owns more than 7,000 contemporary works of art, many of which can be found on display throughout the hotel. Travelers praise the tip-top, Euro-tinged decor and the clean rooms, which are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minifridges, Keurig coffee makers, robes and beds with pillow-top mattresses. Recent guests also recommend upgrading from a regular room to one of the R Club Concierge Level accommodations, if it fits into your budget. You'll receive access to a lounge with 24-hour concierge service, free breakfast, tea and cocktails, plus complimentary use of a computer. Recent guests who booked one of the interior R Club rooms report hearing little to no noise from busy Bourbon Street. However, that is not the case for all other rooms on the property, which can let in a fair amount of street noise.

    Hotel Monteleone
    New Orleans, LA
#5 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 8881 reviewsTripAdvisor (8881)
    Free WiFi

The Hotel Monteleone has boarded the who's who of American literati, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, to name a few. Even some of the new class (like Anne Rice, Winston Groom and John Grisham) have stayed here for a night or two. The hotel's revolving Carousel Bar & Lounge has become an icon that features prominently in books and movies about the city of New Orleans. In other words, the Hotel Monteleone is an institution. As such, it's hard to determine whether previous guests' opinions of their stay are based on quality or legacy. Some patrons gush over the hotel's charm, while others complain of cramped rooms and a dated look and feel. Rooms include Keurig coffee makers, HDTVs and iHome radios. Most everyone agrees, though, that the staff here is very personable and the location is superb. The Hotel Monteleone sits on Royal Street in the French Quarter.

The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
#6 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4526 reviewsTripAdvisor (4526)

A hotel can be old, but it certainly shouldn't look old. Case in point: The historic Roosevelt, a classic among the lodging offerings of New Orleans, had begun to show a little wear before Hurricane Katrina. After that setback, the owners used it as an opportunity to close, renovate and resuscitate their fledgling stamp on luxury. Part of Waldorf Astoria's esteemed collection, The Roosevelt New Orleans has been able to preserve its legendary status while keeping up with the evolving standard of luxury. Recent lodgers gush over the comfortable rooms and their high-quality furniture (leather chairs and couches, in some cases), and appreciate modern features like the high-speed internet access (for a fee) and two flat-screen TVs. The staff members also win over recent patrons for being exceptionally accommodating. What's more, the legendary Sazerac Bar is reminiscent of the happening spot it was in the days of Louis Armstrong and Huey P. Long. You can find The Roosevelt New Orleans right off Canal Street, on Roosevelt Way. And if you're a Hilton Honors member, you can earn or redeem reward points here for perks.

    Harrah's New Orleans

#7 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 6910 reviewsTripAdvisor (6910)

Harrah's real bread and butter is the casino floor, not the hotel rooms. Still, travelers find that this Mississippi Riverfront hotel does an excellent job of making you feel at home while you take your chances at the slots and tables. The rooms are large, the staff is quick to respond to the needs of guests, and because you're in such a prime spot, you can easily walk to the French Quarter's best-loved sites or to the Central Business District. This hotel can be bustling, so you might want to stay someplace else if you value your sleep.

    Le Pavillon Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
#8 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 3153 reviewsTripAdvisor (3153)
    Free WiFi

The standard rooms at Le Pavillon are like elegant works of art with handmade draperies, hand-carved armoires and plush linens. The deluxe rooms even have black marble bathrooms. But some guests say that it’s the lobby that is the real showpiece of this Central Business District property. There, you'll find plenty of fine art, lots of antique furniture and a beautiful Czechoslovakian crystal chandelier. Consider spending a few moments there in the evenings, when the staff hands out complimentary peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to its patrons on silver platters. Recent guests say they liked the French style of the hotel and the professional service, while others mentioned that they experienced reservation problems.

    Soniat House

#9 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 357 reviewsTripAdvisor (357)
    Free WiFi

Soniat House is an idyllic choice for couples — the decor practically screams "rendezvous," with its four-poster beds (only available in some rooms), its French and Italian antique furniture and its candlelit courtyards. Each of the 31 rooms and suites have Frette linens and Molton Brown toiletries; the free afternoon cocktails are pure class, and the breakfast served each morning (not free) is tasty. Plus, this hotel on Chartres Street is somewhat removed from the Big Easy hoopla. Travelers give kudos to the warm staff, but they also warn that if you're expecting convenient luxury, this may not be the NOLA home base for you. Recent guests say they flocked to the Soniat House knowing it would be more like an escape into the city's bygone era and therefore tolerated some of its flaws (no in-room coffee makers and a small, slow elevator) for the charming experience.

#10 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 617 reviewsTripAdvisor (617)
    Free WiFi

For friendly service and chic, upscale digs, vacationers recommend staying at The Jung Hotel & Residences. Originally constructed in the 1920s, the property sits within walking distance of the French Quarter and multiple entertainment venues, including the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the Smoothie King Center indoor multipurpose arena. Each of the 207 guest rooms and suites features neutral decor in pale blue, yellow and beige hues, plus a marble bathroom equipped with two sinks, high-end toiletries and a walk-in shower with dual showerheads. Rooms also boast tech amenities like free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and Bluetooth alarm clocks with USB charging ports. Most travelers appreciated the spacious room layouts and contemporary interiors; however, some warned that noise from the hallways may prevent light sleepers from getting a restful night's sleep. Outside the rooms, you'll find 24-hour business and fitness centers, a heated rooftop pool, a coffee shop, two bars and a restaurant that serves contemporary Creole fare every day for breakfast and lunch. The lobby bar offers New Orleans classics at dinnertime, or you can walk or catch a streetcar (line Nos. 47, 48 and 49 stop outside the hotel) to one of the other eateries lining Canal Street.

Bigger sometimes is better, according to recent guests of the Loews New Orleans Hotel. The recently renovated hotel rooms are large and offer modern decor and spacious showers. All accommodations come with free Wi-Fi access, 24-hour room service and Egyptian cotton linens. And the hotel itself is pretty tall, considering it doesn't start until the 11th floor of a skyscraper in the Central Business District. Additional on-site amenities at this property include the new Poydras & Peters Brasserie and Market, a fitness center and an indoor saltwater pool. As far as service is concerned, recent visitors have mixed reviews. Some said it's a little lacking, noting disorganized front desk staff and inattentive restaurant servers, while others encountered friendly and helpful hotel employees. If you're a member of the Loews YouFirst loyalty program, you might want to bed down here to earn or redeem rewards.

    Hilton New Orleans Riverside
    New Orleans, LA
#14 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 6529 reviewsTripAdvisor (6529)

Guests are in agreement that the best part of the Hilton New Orleans Riverside is its location. This Hilton sits right along the Mississippi River and is sandwiched between the Lower Garden District and the French Quarter, the latter of which lies less than a mile north of the hotel. But leisure travelers aren't the only ones that benefit from the hotel's address. Business travelers appreciate the incredibly short commute to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, which is just a few blocks away from the property. Accommodations, on the other hand, didn't receive as much praise, with some lodgers saying the rooms could use an update. Rooms feature flat-screen TVs, minifriges, coffee and tea making facilities as well as Wi-Fi access (free for Honors members). On-site, guests can take advantage of the basketball, racquetball, squash and tennis facilities in addition to a fitness room and a rooftop pool. Dining is also abundant, with six eatery and bar options at the hotel. Though there are plenty of delectable restaurants within walking distance, travelers say the seafood at Drago's is not to be missed.

The Cambria New Orleans Downtown Warehouse District sits about a half-mile south of the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. Set in the artsy Warehouse District near many local galleries, live music venues, cafes and bistros, this new hotel reflects its trendy neighborhood. The property opened in 2018 and it boasts all the amenities you would expect of a newly constructed hotel, including complimentary Wi-Fi access, in-room interactive TVs and a fully equipped fitness center. But the unique history and style of New Orleans are not entirely lost to modernity, as the property's art gallery features works from resident local artists. What's more, the on-site bistro and bar serves upscale NOLA-inspired fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You'll feel at home in the rooms, which sport coffee makers, minifridges and pillow-top mattresses, and recent guests said the on-site staff is friendly and helpful with any request.
