    Windsor Court Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
#1 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1730 reviewsTripAdvisor (1730)
    Free WiFi

The Windsor Court Hotel is beloved by New Orleans travelers for a variety of reasons. There's the view of the Mississippi River as seen from the higher-up balconies or bay windows, and the kind and courteous staff members that go above and beyond in customer service, according to visitors. Not to mention the delicious and refined Southern eats served in The Grill Room. Plus, there are other nice features to consider, like Polo Club Lounge's live contemporary jazz performances five nights a week, or the housekeeping staff's twice-daily room cleaning. Rooms come equipped with a blend of English and French decor, Italian marble baths, minibars and complimentary Wi-Fi access. You'll also find a full-service spa, fitness center and rooftop pool at this NOLA favorite. Windsor Court is located on Gravier Street, within walking distance of some of the city's top sites like the National World War II Museum. What's more, members of the iPrefer rewards program can earn or use points for staying here.

    The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans
    New Orleans, LA
#2 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3185 reviewsTripAdvisor (3185)

Even in a city like New Orleans where hotels wear quirky like a badge of honor, the typicalness of this Ritz branch sits well with travelers. Recent guests have plenty of positive remarks for the superbly clean accommodations, hospitable staff and unmistakably luxurious features. Sitting on the edge of the French Quarter, the Ritz keeps things distinctly local with decor that's reflective of the Garden District's antebellum mansions. Guests report that the rooms are both pristine and modern with neoclassical furnishings, Italian marble baths, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and floor-to-ceiling windows. Recent lodgers recommend booking a room in the front of the hotel if you want to avoid the Canal Street din. Staying true to its roots, the Ritz also offers two eateries with distinct NOLA flavors. And if you need a break from The Big Easy's rowdy atmosphere, unwind at the hotel's day spa. Yes, this Canal Street hotel is expensive, but many say it's more than worth shelling out the cash. And, if you're a Marriott Rewards member you can earn or score complimentary extras by choosing to stay here.

    Royal Sonesta New Orleans
    New Orleans, LA
#3 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4423 reviewsTripAdvisor (4423)
    Free WiFi

The Royal Sonesta New Orleans is one of the few French Quarter hotels that didn't close down immediately following Hurricane Katrina. But after showing some wear and tear, the property underwent an extensive renovation to update the interior, accommodations and introduce a hot new eatery, Restaurant R'evolution. What's more, the Royal Sonesta owns more than 7,000 contemporary works of art, many of which can be found on display throughout the hotel. Travelers praise the tip-top, Euro-tinged decor and the clean guest rooms, which are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minifridges and beds with pillow-top mattresses. If you can afford to, guests also recommend you upgrade from a regular room to one of the R Club level accommodations. You'll have access to a lounge with 24-hour concierge service, complimentary breakfast, tea and cocktails, plus complimentary use of a computer. Recent guests who booked one of the interior R Club rooms report hearing little to no noise from busy Bourbon Street.

The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
#4 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4032 reviewsTripAdvisor (4032)

A hotel can be old, but it certainly shouldn't look old. Case in point: The historic Roosevelt, a classic among the lodging offerings of New Orleans, had begun to show a little wear before Hurricane Katrina. After that setback, the owners used it as an opportunity to close, renovate and resuscitate their fledgling stamp on luxury. Part of Waldorf Astoria's esteemed collection, The Roosevelt New Orleans has been able to preserve its legendary status while keeping up with the evolving standard of luxury. Recent lodgers gush over the comfortable rooms and their high-quality furniture (leather chairs and couches, in some cases), and appreciate modern features like the high-speed internet access (for a fee) and two flat-screen TVs. The staff members also win over recent patrons for being exceptionally accommodating. What's more, the legendary Sazerac Bar is reminiscent of the happening spot it was in the days of Louis Armstrong and Huey P. Long. You can find The Roosevelt New Orleans right off Canal Street, on Roosevelt Way. And if you're a Hilton Honors member you can earn or redeem reward points here for perks.

    Hotel Monteleone
    New Orleans, LA
#5 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 7798 reviewsTripAdvisor (7798)
    Free WiFi

The Hotel Monteleone has boarded the who's who of American literati, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, to name a few. Even some of the new class (like Anne Rice, Winston Groom and John Grisham) have stayed here for a night or two. And the hotel's revolving Carousel Bar & Lounge has become an icon that features prominently in books and movies about the city of New Orleans. In other words, the Hotel Monteleone is an institution. As such, it's hard to determine whether previous guests' opinions of their stay are based on quality or legacy. Some patrons gush over the hotel's charm, while others complain of cramped rooms and a dated look and feel. Rooms include Keurig coffee makers, HDTVs and iHome radios. Most everyone agrees, though, that the staff here is very personable and the location is superb. The Hotel Monteleone sits on Royal Street in the French Quarter.

    InterContinental New Orleans
    New Orleans, LA
#6 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1579 reviewsTripAdvisor (1579)
    Free WiFi

You'll need to book this hotel at least a month in advance if you want to visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras. And book it you should, since the extra popular parade passes right by the InterContinental's front doors on St. Charles Avenue. However, you'll probably see more business travelers lodging here throughout the rest of the year, because this hotel prefers to wow you with basic luxuries rather than hip, over-the-top styling. The property underwent a full renovation in 2014 and guest rooms are now outfitted with neutral decor, work desks and flat-screen TVs. Recent guests were fans of the updated accommodations, outdoor pool and the friendly customer service, though others thought the breakfast and parking fees were a tad pricey. If you're a member of IHG's Rewards Club program, you can earn or cash in points for your stay.

    Loews New Orleans Hotel

#7 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2684 reviewsTripAdvisor (2684)
    Free WiFi

Bigger is better sometimes, so say the recent guests of the Loews New Orleans Hotel. The rooms are pretty large as are the showers. Along with the spacious showers, rooms also come with free Wi-Fi access, 24-hour room service and Egyptian cotton linens. And the hotel itself is pretty tall, considering it doesn't start until the 11th floor of a skyscraper in the Central Business District. Additional on-site amenities at this property include the Balance Spa, a fitness center and an indoor saltwater pool. As far as service is concerned, recent visitors have mixed reviews. Some said it's a little lacking, noting disorganized front desk staff and inattentive restaurant servers, while others encountered friendly and helpful hotel employees. If you're a member of the Loews YouFirst loyalty program, you might want to bed down here to earn or redeem rewards.

The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery
    New Orleans, LA
#8 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 2646 reviewsTripAdvisor (2646)
    Free WiFi

Originally built as a warehouse in 1854, this boutique hotel is located just south of the infamous French Quarter in New Orleans. And its ideal location was a highlight, according to recent guests. Several visitors said they were able to walk to many of the Big Easy's top attractions, including the Louisiana Children's Museum and the French Quarter's jazz clubs and restaurants. If you'd rather explore the hotel's culinary offerings, you'll have two options: The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery is home to Compère Lapin, a restaurant blending Caribbean and Gulf flavors, and Tout La, which offers fresh pastries, coffee and more. If you need to work off all those beignets, make use of the hotel's on-site fitness center. When it comes to accommodations, rooms feature exposed brick walls and neutral decor, plus free in-room Wi-Fi access, beds with pillow-top mattresses and Lather bath toiletries. However, previous guests found a few disappointments with their digs, noting that several rooms have no windows and that noise from Lafayette Street was a nuisance. Visitors were more impressed with the customer service at this property.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 5612 reviewsTripAdvisor (5612)

Harrah's real bread and butter is the casino floor, not the hotel rooms. But still, travelers find that this Mississippi Riverfront hotel does an excellent job of making you feel at home while you take your chances at the slots and tables. The rooms are large, the staff is quick to respond to the needs of their guests and because you're in such a prime spot, you can easily walk to the French Quarter's best-loved sites or to the Central Business District. This hotel can be bustling, so you might want to stay someplace else if you value your R&R (and your zzz's).

Located in a 1920s-era art deco building in the Warehouse District, the Ace Hotel New Orleans is a hip property for those visiting New Orleans. Recent guests said that if you're looking for a trendy vibe with convenient access to the St. Charles streetcar line, the newest Ace Hotel outpost may be right for you. Other on-site amenities include a 24-hour fitness center and a rooftop pool. The hotel also features spaces available to the public like the Three Keys music venue, which offers live entertainment almost every night, as well as a gallery that displays local art, fashion, performance and culinary arts. Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
#11 in Best Hotels in New Orleans
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1156 reviewsTripAdvisor (1156)

Fairly soon after you enter this Renaissance, it should become clear why it has been given the name "Arts Hotel." The Marriott-backed property is filled with modern works, many of which are inside the satellite branch of the Arthur Rogers Gallery that you'll find in the lobby. Guests say that rooms more or less fit into this brand's usual standard of luxury, so you'll find sparse – but high quality –furnishings and comfortable beds, plus amenities like Aveda bath products, minifridges, Wi-Fi access (for a fee) and LCD TVs. The Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel also has a heated rooftop pool, something that you won't find at too many luxury hotels in New Orleans. If you're interested, you can appropriately find this property in the gallery-heavy Arts District. And if you're a Marriott Rewards member, you can accrue or redeem points by choosing to stay here.

The standard rooms at Le Pavillon are like elegant works of art with handmade draperies, hand-carved armoires and plush linens. The deluxe rooms even have black marble bathrooms. But some guests say that it’s the lobby that is the real showpiece of this Central Business District property. There, you'll find plenty of fine art, lots of antique furniture and a beautiful Czechoslovakian crystal chandelier. Consider spending a few moments there in the evenings, when the staff hands out complimentary peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to its patrons on silver platters. Recent guests say they liked the French style of the hotel and the professional service, while others mentioned that they experienced reservation problems.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4993 reviewsTripAdvisor (4993)

The Omni Royal Orleans benefits from its address on St. Louis Street – between Royal and Chartres streets – in the French Quarter. In 2013, the property underwent a renovation of its public areas and guest rooms, many of which now boast wrought iron balconies. When you're not relaxing in the comfort rooms, visit the popular in-house restaurant, the Rib Room. Recent lodgers report that though rooms are somewhat small, they feature French and Creole design accents, marble bathrooms (which guests say offer great water pressure) and courtyard or French Quarter views. If you don't score a room with French Quarter views, head to the highly praised rooftop observation deck which features a heated outdoor pool. Travelers also recommend joining the Omni Select Guest program to enjoy complimentary perks, like free in-room Wi-Fi and a free libation at the bar.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 1042 reviewsTripAdvisor (1042)

Surrounded by lots of shops and galleries and close to the excitement of Bourbon Street, the W New Orleans – French Quarter certainly has location in its favor. In addition to its prime locale and cushy brand perks like Bliss beauty products and concierge service, this hotel differentiates itself through its first class hospitality. Recent guests note that the front desk goes the extra mile to make lodgers feel at home. Along with the service-oriented staff, travelers also praise the restaurant and bar SoBou for its knowledgeable servers and varied menu of Louisiana street food-inspired small plates.
