Fogo Island Inn isn't your average hotel. The inn, which is held up by stilts so as not to damage the rocky topography it sits on, features a contemporary, almost futuristic architectural design that seems at odds with the centuries-old fishing village it occupies. Because of the inn's remote location on Fogo Island (situated off the northeast coast of Newfoundland, Canada), the property cultivates a familial, intimate atmosphere that recent guests loved. You won't find much in the surrounding area, but the inn provides all the unique amenities you could need for a relaxing, secluded getaway. In addition to a fitness center, the Fogo Island Inn offers a rooftop deck with wood-fired saunas and two outdoor hot tubs, a 37-seat theater, a small art gallery, a library, a lounge and bar and a restaurant with vaulted ceilings and dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows. Aside from the amenities, it was the inn's 29 suites that really impressed visitors, who called a stay at the property a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience. Rooms are outfitted with floor-to-ceiling windows (perfect for admiring the ocean views), natural wood floors with in-floor heating, heated towel racks and heated toilet seats with a built-in bidet, among other amenities. The only gripe among lodgers? A stay here does not come cheap.

For "breathtaking" views and "exceptional" customer service, travelers recommend staying at The Algonquin Resort St. Andrews by-the-Sea. Located by the American-Canadian border and approximately 63 miles southwest of Saint John, New Brunswick, this Autograph Collection outpost has welcomed guests since opening as Canada's first seaside resort in 1889. After undergoing an extensive renovation in 2014, the resort now boasts facilities like a fitness center and an indoor pool with a waterslide. Other on-site amenities include a spa, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and a 24-hour gift shop. Plus, area shuttle service, Wi-Fi access and loaner bicycles and tennis equipment are covered by all room rates, and Marriott Bonvoy members can earn or redeem points while staying here. Two eateries – one in the main building and another at the golf course – are available as well. Many past diners raved about Braxton's Restaurant & Bar's themed meals, which include a Sunday brunch buffet and the "Murder Mystery & Dinner" experience. Former lodgers also praised the resort's guest rooms and suites, where period decor, pillow-top mattresses and flat-screen TVs are provided. However, some said it's best to avoid main building rooms if you desire adequate space and thicker walls.

Elegant accommodations, welcoming staff members and an excellent downtown location are just a few reasons why travelers rave about The Great George hotel. Set in the heart of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the historic boutique hotel features 54 simply decorated rooms positioned across a few different restored heritage buildings. Each accommodation comes equipped with free Wi-Fi access, a work desk and a flat-screen TV. Plus, all room rates include complimentary breakfast, a weeknight reception from 5 to 6 p.m. and parking. The property also houses two meeting rooms, with catering options available, and can host wedding parties. Touted as the only waterfront hotel in the heart of picturesque Charlottetown, this property's location on the Northumberland Strait provides easy access to the shops and restaurants around town, according to recent travelers. The spacious accommodations – appointed with minifridges, 32-inch LCD flat-screen TVs and free Internet access – feature sleek decor and views of the city or waterfront. Recent visitors praised The Prince George Hotel for its primo downtown Halifax location. Travelers staying here can easily walk to the Citadel, as well as to plenty of shopping venues and restaurants in the area. But while Halifax features a wealth of top-rated dining venues, recent visitors suggested staying on site for at least one meal. Gio Restaurant consistently impresses patrons with its international fare, which is served for lunch and dinner. On the other hand, The Prince George's accommodations are modern in aesthetic and feature amenities such as minifridges, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and Keurig coffeemakers. Guests traveling with pets will appreciate the $25-per-stay fee for furry friends of all sizes; that fee covers a fleece pet blanket, waste bags and food and water bowls.

You don't have to be a gambler to enjoy this casino hotel. In fact, a number of guests who stay at Casino New Brunswick choose to take advantage of the property's other top-notch offerings in lieu of visiting the on-site casino. Available facilities include a spa, an indoor lap pool and impressive rooms, according to recent guests. Past lodgers described the hotel's accommodations as spacious, clean and comfortable. Rooms start at 440 square feet and come equipped with flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffee makers and oversized walk-in showers. Free in-room Wi-Fi access also comes standard, but some previous visitors complained that the connection was unreliable. When it's time to eat, you can sit for a meal at one of two restaurants, a buffet and Hub City Pub. Keep in mind, the pub's location inside the casino means only patrons 19 and older are welcome to dine here. Should you want to explore the surrounding area, you'll find a golf course, a zoo, a winery and the Magic Mountain amusement park less than 2 miles away. Additional amenities (think: restaurants, shops and parks) can be found in downtown Moncton, New Brunswick, which sits 7 miles southeast of the property and about 95 miles northeast of Saint John.

Previous visitors don't mind the Fox Harb'r Resort's remote Wallace, Nova Scotia, location. In fact, many guests said the resort's scenic location and quiet ambiance are some of its greatest allures. Golfers can tee off on the Graham Cooke-designed championship course, while nature-seekers hike along scenic trails in the Wallace Bay National Wildlife Area Trail (about 8 miles southeast of the resort) or discover Nova Scotia by sea on a boating tour. Meanwhile, those looking for an extra dose of relaxation can indulge in a replenishing massage or lounge by the resort's mineral pool and hot tub. Afterward, retreat to your well-appointed accommodations, which are outfitted with kitchennettes, heated granite bathroom floors, Molton Brown bath products and terraces or balconies. However, some visitors were not satisfied with the cuisine served at The Great Room, describing it as unimaginative and overpriced.

Former travelers said this seaside hotel exudes a kind of charm and romance that is simply unforgettable. Nestled in Prince Edward Island National Park, Dalvay by the Sea is surrounded by lush greenery on all sides and is just steps away from Prince Edward Island's breathtaking Dalvay Beach. Couple this idyllic setting with the hotel's Victorian architecture and you'll feel like you're a character in an old-timey novel. Rooms and suites do not offer TVs, radios or telephones, but past guests did not seem to mind, as it allowed them to really unwind and connect with their surroundings. However, some previous visitors noted that the floors and walls were thin and let in some noise. If your aim is to detach completely, consider springing for a cottage, which features a more private location away from the main building. Save time for a meal at The MacMillan Dining Room, the on-site restaurant that serves incredible regional dishes, according to past diners. And when you're ready to relax after exploring the area (bike rentals are available on-site), previous travelers highly recommend curling up with a drink or book by one of the hotel's fireplaces.

The Hilton Saint John is a solid option for those who want to hang their hats close to Saint John, New Brunswick's amenities. From this Hilton outpost, guests can walk to various bars, restaurants and sights, including the Saint John City Market and the New Brunswick Museum. The Saint John Throughway is also just a couple of blocks north of the hotel, so travelers can easily drive to other can't-miss attractions like Reversing Falls and Irving Nature Park. Vacationers say the Hilton Saint John's enviable address is by far its best attribute. However, the property's rooms receive mixed feedback, with some guests noting they are in need of a remodel. Standard rooms measure 390 square feet and include 32-inch flat-screen TVs, marble bathrooms and free Wi-Fi access (for Hilton Honors members). All accommodation views are of downtown or the Bay of Fundy. Outside the rooms, visitors will find fitness and business centers, an indoor pool and a walking track. This Marriott outpost boasts a prime location on Halifax Harbour, within close proximity to the waterfront's bars, restaurants and shopping venues. Guests also praise this Marriott's proximity to the Casino Nova Scotia, which is connected to the hotel via an indoor skyway. Inside the hotel, the refurbished lobby wins guests over with its sleek, modern decor. The hotel's guest rooms and suites, on the other hand, seem to still need an update – travelers describe the rooms' brown and red color schemes as drab compared to the bright white furnishings of the lobby. Each room features a minifridge, a 25-inch flat-screen TV and complimentary Internet access. As for dining, you can order room service from the on-site restaurant, the harbourstone sea grill & pour house or venture to the nearby eateries located on the waterfront.
