Hacienda de los Santos Resort and Spa
    Alamos
#1 in Best Hotels in Northern Mexico
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 5 based on 412 reviewsTripAdvisor (412)

Recent visitors described the grounds and ambiance at the family-owned Hacienda de los Santos as magical, in large part due to the personalized service and individually decorated accommodations.  In each room, guests will find restored antiques, original artwork and fireplaces, as well as modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, complimentary bottled water and adjustable air conditioning. What's more, those staying in suites or villas will enjoy bathrooms with separate tubs and showers. When you're not relaxing in your room, the resort offers a variety of activities both on and off the property like architectural and garden tours, hunting expeditions, guitar lessons and a putting green. Guests can also lounge by one of four on-site swimming pools or book a treatment at the spa. Recent guests said all activities and amenities were provided with friendly five-star service. The three on-site restaurants also receive high praise from recent travelers who said the new American and Sonoran meals are fit for a king. Dinner at Santiago's includes nightly live music by a local guitarist, which recent visitors said sets the perfect atmosphere.

#2 in Best Hotels in Northern Mexico
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 790 reviewsTripAdvisor (790)

When admiring the view from Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort's perch on the Sea of Cortez's eastern shore, guests are blown away by the stark contrast between the blue of the water and the red of the Sonoran Desert. The infinity pool and waterside lazy rivers add to this resort's desert oasis feel that carries through to the 839 one- to five-bedroom suites. Each suite features a private balcony or terrace overlooking the ocean, a kitchen and dining area, Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities, a satellite TV and complimentary Internet access. On the grounds, guests can swing a club at The Links, Las Palomas' 18-hole championship golf course that reflects the surrounding tidal scenery. When the day is done, you may want to look elsewhere for a meal: Past guests note that La Maria Bistro & Fine Cuisine and Citron Restaurant (the two on-site dining spots) offer limited menu options. And while Las Palomas does have a 59-label wine collection, travelers say service at La Palomas' bars can be a bit spotty.

Located in Monterrey, Mexico's Garza Garcia business district, MS MileniuM gives visitors easy access to many of the city's shops, restaurants and attractions. Past travelers loved having the opportunity to take daytrips while staying here, plus the top-notch customer service and the delicious on-site cuisine also received high praise. The breakfast buffet offered at Los Continentes was especially popular. However, some former guests said that their accommodations, which feature neutral color schemes and hardwood floors, could benefit from a refresh. All come with modern amenities like 42-inch flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi access, minifridges and work desks with ergonomic chairs. For those interested in conducting business outside of their rooms, the hotel has multiple event spaces to choose from, including a 12-person conference room, five offices and an expansive outdoor terrace. Plus, this hotel is part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts family, so members of the iPrefer Hotel Rewards program can earn or redeem points while staying here.

    Safi Royal Luxury Valle
    Monterrey
#4 in Best Hotels in Northern Mexico
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 414 reviewsTripAdvisor (414)

Situated about 4 miles southwest of Monterrey's city center, the Safi Royal Luxury Valle is frequently described by travelers as elegant. And once you enter its ornate lobby, you'll see why it garners such a reputation. With its towering marble columns and the Monterrey sun spilling through the windows, the lobby makes a memorable first impression. Road warriors say that the hotel's sophisticated atmosphere (and ample event venues) cater to business meetings, but tourists will find their needs met here, too. Spend a leisurely afternoon by the pool (which boasts a kid-friendly water slide) or stroll across the street to the Plaza Fiesta San Agustín Mall. Even if you're not much of a shopaholic, recent visitors suggest checking out the mall's myriad of restaurants, often noting that the cuisine available off the property grounds is much tastier than the buffet-style globally inspired fare served at the on-site restaurant. (But before venturing beyond the hotel property, read up on the U.S. State Department's travel advisories and safety tips.) When you're ready to catch a few zzz's, bed down in well-appointed rooms, which feature Ultra Comfort Beds, generously sized bathrooms and TVs that offer both Spanish and English programming.

    La Casona del Banco
    Parras de la Fuente
#6 in Best Hotels in Northern Mexico
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 55 reviewsTripAdvisor (55)

This quaint boutique hotel in Parras de la Fuente in northern Mexico wins favor with guests for its exceptionally friendly staff and beautifully decorated rooms. The property, surrounded by gardens, dates back to the 19th century and used to be the site of the Bank of Nuevo León. Many of the rooms include unique original details like stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings in addition to free Wi-Fi access. While guests can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast and drinks at the bar, there is no full-service restaurant available on-site. The hotel is also lacking some amenities travelers might expect at a boutique property, such as a gym and pool. However, if you're looking for a quiet getaway, this could be just the property for you. Previous guests appreciated that the hotel was close to many wineries and that they could easily explore the nearby parks and plazas.

Nicknamed the "City of the Mountains," Monterrey, the capital of the Mexican state of Nuevo León, is home to a variety of restaurants, businesses, shops and hotels, including the Grand Fiesta Americana Monterrey Valle. The property is just steps from the city’s top attractions and restaurants, plus it is across the street from a sprawling shopping mall, close to a large golf course and a short drive from the towering Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range. Many of the 180 guest rooms boast jaw-dropping views of the mountains from their floor-to-ceiling windows, and all contain minibars, coffee makers, complimentary Wi-Fi access and flat-screen TVs. The muted decor mostly features earth tones, with the exception of the crisp white bed linens. Outside the rooms, the hotel has a gym, a business center and meeting rooms, a restaurant and a large breakfast buffet that received many compliments from recent guests. Travelers also appreciated this Grupo Posadas outpost's central location and modern accommodations, though a few thought the rooms lacked adequate lighting.

    Quinta Real Monterrey
    Garza Garcia
#11 in Best Hotels in Northern Mexico
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 340 reviewsTripAdvisor (340)

With all the luxuries of an elegant colonial estate, the Quinta Real Monterrey offers a charming atmosphere without sacrificing contemporary comforts. Situated about 4 miles south of the city center near the Plaza Fiesta San Agustín Mall, this Quinta Real property occupies a safe cocoon in the city's commercial zone. Its ideal location proved to be especially crucial for tourists who came to Monterrey with the State Department's travel advisories in mind. Guests also give special kudos to the accommodations. Suites boast Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries, colonial-style furnishings, hand-carved antiques, minibars and marble bathrooms. Some suites also feature balconies overlooking the hotel's verdant gardens and bubbling fountains. If you didn't book a room with a garden view, you can admire the scenery from the pool. Though some past visitors lament the pool's small size, they praise its beautiful design and peaceful atmosphere. You'll also find a tranquil ambiance at Los Balcones Restaurant, where live piano and violin music provide an ambient background for savoring Mexican and globally inspired cuisine. Though past guests praise the flavorful dishes, they caution that the plates were pricier than they had anticipated. If you're on a budget, visitors suggest heading across the street to the mall for more affordable dining options.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 159 reviewsTripAdvisor (159)

Sitting about 5 miles north of the city center in Saltillo's industrial district, this Quinta Real outpost earns high praise from past guests for its historical design and attentive staff. Keeping with the style of the hotel's colonial-era facade, rooms are appointed with original artwork, minibars, plush robes and marble bathrooms; accommodations also feature views of the interior or exterior gardens. Travelers commend the spacious suites, but lament the hotel's industrial surroundings. That said, with the hotel's design aesthetics it's easy to forget you're in the heart of the city's manufacturing zone. Wide corridors are adorned with striking brass chandeliers, while lush shrubbery and flowers provide a peaceful setting at the pool. When hunger sets in, head to the on-site Las Vitrina restaurant and enjoy the elegant atmosphere as you savor tasty gourmet Mexican eats. If you're craving more cuisine variety, consider sampling the Saltillo food scene — just keep the U.S. State Department's travel advisories and safety tips in mind when venturing out on your own. The Courtyard Chihuahua isn't your run-of-the-mill Marriott, which was a pleasant surprise to most guests. Instead of neutral (and often dated) decor, you'll find modern interiors with splashes of color in accent wall murals. In-room amenities range from complimentary Wi-Fi access and bottled water to minifridges to Paul Mitchell bath products. If you want something to nibble on while in your room, the hotel offers a grocery shopping service, as well as room service during select hours. You can also venture outside your digs to the on-site restaurant, CENTRO, which serves American fare for breakfast and dinner daily. Other facilities offered at this Courtyard include a gym, a business center and an outdoor pool. Plus, you can use the hotel's complimentary shuttle service to get to any locale within a 6-mile radius. Overall, lodgers say that this hotel is a solid option with great service. However, a few describe the restaurant's breakfast buffet as "basic" and "really poor." On the bright side, if you're a Marriott Bonvoy program member, you can earn or redeem points for perks like free nights.
