A staple in downtown Reykjavik, Iceland for more than 50 years, the Hotel Holt cherishes and celebrates Icelandic culture in an unparalleled manner. The entire ground floor of this boutique property is practically its own art museum, as it showcases three sculptures, multiple murals and hundreds of paintings from some of Iceland's most beloved artists. And if you book directly through this hotel's website, you get a complimentary three-day pass to three of Reykjavik's art museums. What's more, the on-site Holt Restaurant, which opened in December 2018, provides visitors with exquisite food from an award-winning chef during dinner hours. Recent guests complimented the comfortable and clean rooms here, which include free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and minibars. And though there is no fitness center or swimming pool on-site, this hotel provides passes to the World Class gym and swimming pool that sit just 2 miles away from the property. Most of Reykjavik's main attractions, such as Hallgrímur's Church and The Settlement Exhibition, can be found within walking distance, and guests who wish to explore the city by car can enjoy free parking on-site.

Situated right in the Old Harbor of Iceland's capital, the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina puts guests right in the center of the action in Reykjavik, Iceland. Some of the booming city's most popular attractions, including the Sun Voyager sculpture and the Harpa conference hall, are within walking distance of this boutique property. Plus, the hotel offers exceptional views of the city's main harbor from both its rooms and the lobby. Although there are numerous cafes and shops in the surrounding neighborhood, recent guests loved the breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch served at the on-site Slippbarinn restaurant. When it's time to relax, kick back in your room, which features Icelandic design and maritime decor and includes free Wi-Fi access, a minifridge and a flat-screen TV. While many previous visitors appreciated the hotel's quirky design and friendly staff, others wished there were tea and coffee makers in the rooms (you can ask for one at the front desk, though). #4 in Best Hotels in Reykjavik
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1116 reviewsTripAdvisor (1116)
Alda Hotel Reykjavik serves as an arctic oasis committed to putting guests first: From the helpful staff to the delicious dining options to the in-house barbershop, this property has convenience covered. The hotel even offers smartphones for guests to use throughout their stay, with local calls and data included. While the hotel sits in the center of Reykjavik, it's situated on the quieter end of a main shopping street, Laugavegur, which creates a more peaceful atmosphere. The 88 guest rooms all sport cool colors and Icelandic designs, and in-room amenities include walk-in showers, coffee and tea makers, robes and TVs. Still, some guests say the rooms can feel a bit cramped and dark. Exploring Reykjavik is easy from this hotel, and iconic attractions such as the Sun Voyager sculpture and Hallgrímur's Church are less than 10 minutes away by foot. Travelers who want to venture outside the city and explore the Blue Lagoon, the Golden Circle or other natural Icelandic wonders can head to the nearby bus stop, where many excursions depart. Then, after an adventure-filled day, guests can return to the hotel to relax in the sauna or the outdoor hot tub. After unwinding, they head to dinner at the hotel's Brass Kitchen and Bar, which serves dishes like deep-fried Icelandic Camembert cheese and fish stew.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2236 reviewsTripAdvisor (2236)
At CenterHotel Thingholt, the goal is to relax. The sleek, clean guest rooms display natural elements and modern designs, and in-room amenities include free Wi-Fi access, minibars and TVs. The hotel houses a full-service spa that offers various treatments and is equipped with two hot tubs, a sauna and a fitness center; those staying in suites can access the spa for free while other guests must pay an additional fee. When it's time for dinner, the hotel's Isafold Restaurant serves a variety of local seafood and meat. The hotel is located on a side street, but many guests warn that the street noise from nearby bars and restaurants tends to seep into the rooms throughout the night. While the nearby revelry may not be ideal for relaxation, the hotel's proximity to Laugavegur offers guests the ability to easily stroll through the lively open-air shops and sample local flavors whenever they please. CenterHotel Thingholt also puts travelers within a mile of several popular attractions, including Reykjavik City Hall, Hallgrímur's Church, Reykjavik Harbour and the Harpa concert hall.

    Hilton Reykjavik Nordica
    Reykjavik
    2.4 miles to city center
#6 in Best Hotels in Reykjavik
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3870 reviewsTripAdvisor (3870)
Regular Hilton travelers will be happy to notice the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica provides all the comfort and convenience of the brand with an Icelandic twist. The large guest rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffee makers, safes, blackout curtains, wooden floors and light, contemporary decor, as is typical in Reykjavik. The hotel also houses the VOX Brasserie & Bar, with a menu that combines Icelandic and international flavors. Although some guests expected a shorter walk to the downtown area from this property (about 2 miles), the city center is a quick bus ride away. The hotel sells bus tickets, and there's a stop right in front of the property. Similarly, many tours pick up from outside the Hilton hotel; staff at the full-service tour desk can help guests plan anything from northern lights tours to whale watching excursions, which previous travelers appreciated. Additionally, there are plenty of things to do nearby. This Hilton puts guests within walking distance of attractions like Laugardalur, which is home to botanical gardens, the Reykjavik Zoo and the Laugardalslaug, the largest outdoor thermal pool in Reykjavik. What's more, Hilton Honors members can earn and redeem points at this property.

    Apotek Hotel by Keahotels
    Reykjavik
    4 miles to city center
#7 in Best Hotels in Reykjavik
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 421 reviewsTripAdvisor (421)
Housed in the structure of a 1917 Reykjavik apothecary, the Apotek Hotel blends elements of boutique living with history, as it is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Decorated with gray and white neutral hues and modern furniture, the Apotek Hotel features 45 guest rooms. While some guests found the rooms to be on the small side, they raved about the showers and other in-room amenities, such as the luxury toiletries. Plus, all rooms come with free Wi-Fi access, Nespresso coffee makers and safes. If you're looking to splurge, book the three-floor Tower Suite, which boasts panoramic views of the city. When staying here, visitors also have access to the spa at the property's sister hotel, located next door. As for decor, the Apotek Hotel pays tribute to the building's history and designer, Guðjón Samúelsson (who also designed the famous Hallgrímur's Church), through artwork and sculptures. Downstairs, the bartenders, or "pharmacists," at Apotek Kitchen + Bar honor the historic apothecary by concocting drinks they refer to as painkillers, stimulants, tranquilizers and prescriptions. The restaurant's meals combine traditional Icelandic and European flavors to create dishes such as minke whale and sea trout. While the hotel doesn't offer parking, guests say the property redeems itself with its convenient position within walking distance of the Reykjavik Cathedral, Laugavegur, Harpa concert hall and the National Gallery of Iceland, as well as many shops and restaurants.

#8 in Best Hotels in Reykjavik
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 360 reviewsTripAdvisor (360)
As a country, Iceland emphasizes sustainable living, organic food and environmental improvement, and the Eyja Guldsmeden Hotel exemplifies these values. The property provides comfortable accommodations near central Reykjavik and supplies its guest with eco-friendly toiletries and reusable water bottles, among other sustainable perks. The 65-room hotel features cozy bohemian-style rooms, which include free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs, and hardwood or parquet floors. Additional amenities include fresh breakfast options and picturesque views of Mount Esja. The property is situated on a quiet street off Laugavegur, a bit removed from the city's top attractions (Hallgrímur's Church and Harpa concert hall sit just over a mile away), which some guests bemoaned. However, Eyja Guldsmeden Hotel is close to bus station-turned-market Hlemmur, which provides healthy food options for guests as well as accessible transportation downtown. Visitors also enjoyed exploring the shops and restaurants around the hotel in the less touristy area of the city.
