Hotel Emma stands out among travelers for its cool culture. This is largely brought on by the hotel's history as a former brewery. In 1916, Pearl's Brewhouse became the largest brewery in Texas, and although its heyday has come and gone, many of the Pearl's original architectural features are still intact. Visitors marvel at the refined industrial elements featured throughout – particularly in the lobby – and are equally impressed with the quality of the accommodations. Guests report rooms to be exceptionally styled and comfortable, thanks to amenities like 48-inch flat-screen TVs, beds with Frette linens and luxury bathrobes. And food is just as much of a staple here as beer used to be. Foodies can take advantage of the on-site concierge for recommendations in the area, or they can grab some house-butchered meats at Larder, enjoy small plates at Sternewirth or sample the farm-to-table fare at Supper. There is also a rooftop pool, a fitness center, a library and a gift shop on-site. Service consistently wows lodgers, as does the hotel's location just 2 miles north of downtown San Antonio

Inspired by Old World Italy, the Hotel Granduca treats Houston visitors to a taste of Europe. From the gourmet cuisine at Ristorante Cavour to afternoon tea, this property knows how to help guests slow down and unwind. You can pick from a number of room types, the most luxurious being the Residenza Imperatore, which has its own separate entrance and 2,100 square feet of space. No matter which room you choose, you'll enjoy plush beds with Italian linens surrounded by antique furnishings and artwork. Most guests say the customer service is excellent, too (perhaps reminiscent of the famous Italian hospitality). Visitors enjoy spending time by the pool and in Bar Malatesta, where drinks are often accompanied by live music. To top it all off, Hotel Granduca gladly welcomes pets, pampering them with treats and special pillows. What's more, Leaders Club members get perks like room upgrades and complimentary breakfast at this hotel.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 833 reviewsTripAdvisor (833)

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts' flagship property sits north of the vibrant Dallas Arts District, providing the tranquility needed for a good night's sleep alongside the convenience of a relatively central location. Oil heiress Caroline Rose Hunt turned this mansion of a former cotton mogul into a hotel in 1981. Now, the property envelopes guests in elegant decor, with guest rooms sporting French doors opening up onto private balconies. (Meanwhile, the RoseBuds for Children program will ensure that your little one has everything he or she needs for a peaceful night, including kid-friendly bath products and a crib, if necessary.) When you're not admiring your digs, take advantage of the hotel's temperature-controlled outdoor pool and deck or head to one of the nearby parks for a little fresh air. And to satisfy your taste buds, executive chef Sebastien Archambault cooks up new American cuisine with French influences at The Mansion Restaurant. This five-star hotel gets rave reviews, with many recent guests saying the staff go above and beyond to anticipate guests needs. However, there are still some naysayers who – despite the hotel's recent renovations – claim there's room for design improvements.

Located 13 miles northwest of Dallas, the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas is quite a mouthful. But it's also quite a hotel. Surrounded by 400 acres of rolling Texas hills, this expansive Four Seasons property is home to a spa, an 18-hole golf course and several restaurants and lounges. And that's on top of the 431 guest rooms, which visitors describe as spacious and comfortable with plush bedding and marble bathrooms that include soaking tubs. Travelers also say that there's no shortage of things to do at this resort, from practicing your tennis swing to lounging by one of the four pools. However, if you plan on doing any sightseeing in Dallas or Fort Worth, you might want to pick a hotel closer in – it can take quite a bit of time in heavy traffic to travel between Irving and Dallas.

The Four Seasons brand prides itself on luxury, and this property is no exception. Sitting on the northern shore of Lady Bird Lake (just a block or so from the Austin Convention Center), the Four Seasons Hotel Austin earns rave reviews from travelers thanks to its sumptuous atmosphere and extremely friendly service staff. The accommodations also garner praise: Rooms are decorated in neutral tones and feature cozy furniture, down bedding, flat-screen TVs, L'Occitane bath products and Internet access. Some previous visitors recommend splurging on a balcony room for excellent views of either the lake or downtown Austin. Or, you can save your money for an elegant Ciclo restaurant dinner or a massage at the spa. You'll find excellent vistas from the windows of the deck of Live Oak or the lounge chairs by the outdoor, heated saltwater pool, and you won't have to pay extra for them.

    The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas
    Dallas, TX
#6 in Best Hotels in Texas
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 945 reviewsTripAdvisor (945)

Located near the Museum of Art, the Dallas edition of the luxurious Ritz-Carlton brand goes beyond just offering many of the amenities you'd expect from a five-star hotel. For instance, this hotel boasts not just a pool, but a saline-treated rooftop pool; and not just facials and massages, but a 12,000-square-foot spa. But guests say that the rooms alone are worth The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas' high price tag. Spacious and elegant, these high-end digs come equipped with 400-thread-count linens and iPod docking stations, not to mention HD televisions and fully stocked minibars. If peanuts and cookies won't tide you over, make reservations at Fearing's Restaurant; previous visitors said that the eatery deserves its numerous accolades thanks to its gourmet American cuisine. But while most recent guests were satisified, a few say the service wasn't up to par for a Ritz property. Because of The Ritz-Carlton's affiliation with Marriott, member's of the company's loyalty program can trade in their rewards points for extra perks.

Archer Hotel Austin wins favor with guests for several reasons. First, its location: The 171-room boutique hotel is situated in north Austin, Texas, just steps from Domain NORTHSIDE, an outdoor retail and restaurant hub. Second, the attention to detail. With thoughtful design touches featured throughout, recent visitors said every aspect of the hotel is well-executed. The rooms were another highlight for reviewers. Accommodations are outfitted in six distinct design palettes (some may feature floor-to-ceiling photo murals while others are decorated with reclaimed leather belts) and equipped with Nespresso coffee makers, complimentary Wi-Fi access, MALIN+GOETZ toiletries and wood plank porcelain tiled bathrooms, among other amenities. Past guests gave mixed reviews of customer service though. When it's time to dine, you'll have your pick of restaurants at the nearby shopping complex, or you can stay on-site and grab a meal at Second Bar + Kitchen. ZaZa hotels have a bit of an eclectic reputation, and the Houston branch is no different. For instance, animal-print chairs accompany crystal chandeliers, and bold-patterned carpets offset one-of-a-kind artwork. But somehow it all comes together. Guests describe Hotel ZaZa's ambiance as memorable, and they praise the trendy-yet-comfortable guest rooms (stocked with private bars, complimentary internet access, rainfall showers and Gilchrist & Soames bath products). If you can afford it, splurge on a "concept" suite. The themed decor in these spacious digs really showcases Hotel ZaZa Houston's attention to detail.
