Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort
    Rio Grande
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 406 reviewsTripAdvisor (406)
    Free WiFi
Situated between the lush El Yunque National Rainforest and the Atlantic Ocean on Puerto Rico's northeastern coast, this seaside Wyndham resort lures active travelers with its versatile outdoor pursuits. You can play a round of tennis at the Peter Burwash International Courts before teeing off at two championship golf courses. Afterwards, take a dip in one of the property's three swimming pools or treat yourself to a soothing massage at the Mandara Spa. Then unwind in your spacious guest room, where you'll find ornate Italian tiles, natural wooden furnishings and a private balcony. All accommodations also come equipped with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi access, Institut Karité Paris toiletries and coffee makers with Puerto Rican coffee. Recent guests loved the well-appointed rooms, as well as the food and service at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar's five restaurants. However, a few past diners said the eateries' dishes are a bit pricey. To save some coin, Wyndham Rewards participants can pay for rooms with accrued points.

El Conquistador Resort, A Waldorf Astoria Resort
    Fajardo
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 7769 reviewsTripAdvisor (7769)
    Free WiFi
Overlooking Atlantic and Caribbean waters from its clifftop perch on Puerto Rico's northeastern coast, El Conquistador Resort offers guests a balance of adventure and relaxation. Sun-worshippers can sprawl across Palomino Island's private sands thanks to El Conquistador's alliance with sister hotel Las Casitas Village (though some recent guests consider the brief ferry ride to get there an inconvenience). Those who don't wish to stray too far from their well-appointed guest room – adorned with bright tropical accents, a balcony or patio, a work desk and a flat-screen TV – can lounge by the main pool. Meanwhile, active guests can tee off at the Arthur Hills Golf Course or break a sweat in the 24-hour fitness center. After working up an appetite, travelers can sit for a meal at the snack bar or inside the lobby's Ultra Lounge at Bar 21. Additional dining options and amenities, including a water park and a spa, are expected to reopen after undergoing renovations to repair damage caused by Hurricane Maria. While some of the on-site facilities are closed for refurbishment, the property is waiving its daily resort fee. Plus, this Waldorf Astoria outpost's affiliation with the Hilton brand means Hilton Honors participants can earn or redeem points by choosing to stay here.

    The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan
    Carolina
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 3271 reviewsTripAdvisor (3271)
    Free WiFi
Encompassing 8 acres of Isla Verde along San Juan's northern coast, The Ritz-Carlton boasts 416 recently renovated rooms accented with 400-thread-count Frette linens, goose-down bedding and marble baths. But believe it or not, the upscale interiors are not what recent guests are raving about. Visitors say that The Ritz-Carlton's impeccable service is what made their stay memorable. But those looking for ultra-luxurious amenities will be happy to find an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, two professional tennis courts, a full-service spa and an on-site casino at their disposal (along with easy access to El Morro and Puerto Rico's sugary sands). When dinnertime rolls around, placate your appetite with the tantalizing culinary specialties offered at the five on-site restaurants. Another bonus of staying here: Thanks to Ritz's Marriott ties, those participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program have the opportunity to earn free nights for choosing to stay here. Note: The hotel was impacted by the 2017 hurricanes and is expected to reopen in 2019.

Sitting cliffside along Puerto Rico's northeastern tip, Las Casitas Village provides guests with an intimate retreat. Each of the pastel-colored casitas features tropical decor and personalized 24-hour butler service. Recent guests suggest booking an ocean-view room on the north side of the resort, which not only boasts beautiful vistas, but also provides easy access to the resort's main pool complex (there are seven swimming pools total throughout the resort). With isolated sands, clear waters and pristine SWING tennis courts, the W Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island (located just 8 miles east of Puerto Rico) is tailor-made for outdoor enthusiasts.
