Originally built in 1852 as a school, the shell of this Omni has enjoyed a prime downtown location for more than a century. Aside from the locale, visitors also appreciate the ambiance, praising the exposed-beam ceilings and bright-red decorative accents in the rooms. However, some feel that for the high price they're paying, their rooms could be updated. But the Omni La Mansión del Rio makes up for its old rooms with ample amenities: While here, spend some time by the pool or at the spa (located in the Mokara Hotel & Spa across the river), or get out and about in San Antonio on an Omni-organized history tour. Some guests weren't pleased with the River Walk noise and expensive parking, but gave high marks to the cuisine served at the award-winning Las Canarias restaurant. But for most, it's the hotel's friendly staff that truly makes staying here a pleasure. And if you're a member of the Omni Select Guest rewards program, you can spend the night in this popular hotel using points. What's more, members of the rewards program get free Wi-Fi access.

While the Omni La Mansión del Rio caters to a more sophisticated clientele, the Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade draws more families. With its two expansive pools and Kids Crew program, this hotel provides plenty of ways to keep kiddos happy. Meanwhile, parents can take advantage of hotel perks like private massages and the on-site fitness facility with features like a hydrotherapy pool and a sauna. The Omni San Antonio also offers a variety of different room types catering to groups of all sizes, and pets are welcome to stay as long as they weigh less than 25 pounds. Recent guests say this Omni fit their needs but didn't provide the 'wow' factor of hotels closer to the River Walk (it's about 10 miles away), although room rates are slightly lower. Most family visitors value the sacrifice of location for a better price. To save even more, become a member of the Omni Select Guest program, which rewards frequent guests with points that can be put toward free stays and upgrades.

The Sheraton Gunter Hotel inhabits a historical building that still exudes turn-of-the-century charm. Guests appreciate the 20th-century ambiance and charming memorabilia in the hotel's common spaces. The simple rooms, however, don't always give off a high-end vibe. Recent guests express mixed feelings on the accommodations: Some were wowed by the views and were very comfortable in the signature Sweet Sleeper beds, while others describe the rooms as small and the decor as dated. The hotel's location is consistently a big hit, though, with sightseers appreciating the Gunter's proximity to sites like the River Walk, The Alamo and San Fernando Cathedral. The heated pool and fitness center also earned praise from travelers, as does the in-house restaurant. Because this is a Sheraton property, Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn and redeem rewards points here.
