    Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek
    Dallas, TX
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 833 reviewsTripAdvisor (833)
    Free WiFi
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts' flagship property sits north of the vibrant Dallas Arts District, providing the tranquility needed for a good night's sleep alongside the convenience of a relatively central location. Oil heiress Caroline Rose Hunt turned this mansion of a former cotton mogul into a hotel in 1981. Now, the property envelopes guests in elegant decor, with guest rooms sporting French doors opening up onto private balconies. (Meanwhile, the RoseBuds for Children program will ensure that your little one has everything he or she needs for a peaceful night, including kid-friendly bath products and a crib, if necessary.) When you're not admiring your digs, take advantage of the hotel's temperature-controlled outdoor pool and deck or head to one of the nearby parks for a little fresh air. And to satisfy your taste buds, executive chef Sebastien Archambault cooks up new American cuisine with French influences at The Mansion Restaurant. This five-star hotel gets rave reviews, with many recent guests saying the staff go above and beyond to anticipate guests needs. However, there are still some naysayers who – despite the hotel's recent renovations – claim there's room for design improvements.

If you're looking for a taste of Europe in Austin, Texas, the Hotel Granduca Austin may just be for you. Similar to Hotel Granduca Houston, this Austin outpost was constructed and designed to look like an Italian villa, and features fountains, a grand outdoor courtyard, hand-painted murals, intricately, patterned wood floors and antique carpets. The theme carries into the rooms, which start at 480 square feet and are appointed with king-sized beds, walk-in showers, exposed wooden beams and Italian art. Some suites also include Juliet balconies, soaking tubs and separate living rooms. Recent guests appreciated the size of the rooms, but were most impressed with the views: The hotel sits on a hillside about 8 miles northwest of Austin. You can also admire the views from the outdoor heated saltwater pool or the Veranda cafe and bar. Aside from the hotel's tranquil location, reviewers also raved about the on-site Italian restaurant, Visconti Ristorante & Bar. If you're looking for a more casual atmosphere, grab a bite at the poolside grill and bar. When it's time to relax, you can indulge in spa services or enlist the concierge to arrange a golf outing at a nearby course. This hotel is part of The Leading Hotels of the World, meaning Leaders Club members have access to perks here.

The Hotel Crescent Court provides an eclectic setting in the heart of Dallas' trendy Uptown district. Guests love the Hotel Crescent Court's opulence, though travelers feel that the property would benefit from some renovation efforts. Everything at this central Dallas property – from the paintings on the walls to the guest rooms – feels oversized. Families particularly appreciate the extra-large rooms and give kudos to the hotel's attentive staff. Parents can unwind at the spa or partake in a delightful afternoon tea: The property offers babysitting services as part of its kids program. Meanwhile, gourmands will enjoy dining at Nobu, which serves up an eclectic array of Japanese food. For lunch, grab a table at the The Conservatory and follow it up with a classy cocktail at Beau's.

Located along the Colorado River and less than 22 miles northwest of downtown Austin, the Lake Austin Spa Resort is one of the area's most luxurious resorts. And according to recent guests, this property is just as relaxing as it is opulent (and warrants the commute back and forth from the downtown area). The LakeHouse Spa offers a wide menu of treatments that are sure to help relax your body and mind, while resort activities like yoga, boating and hiking will entice you to get outside and get moving. And guest rooms offer the perfect amount of peace and quiet, boasting private porches, soaking tubs, fresh-cut flowers, complimentary Wi-Fi and Egyptian cotton linens. Lake Austin Spa Resort also receives high praise for its healthy (and yes, very tasty) cuisine. And while room rates are on the pricier side, this is an all-inclusive resort, so all meals, beverages and activities are included.

    Omni Houston Hotel
    Houston, TX
    4.6 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1966 reviewsTripAdvisor (1966)
Sitting less than 2 miles from The Galleria, these luxurious digs beckon to shoppers with high-end taste. Guest rooms at this Omni property look like they belong in on a magazine cover, with stylish gold and black decor and fantastic views. In fact, black is the Omni Houston Hotel's signature color: The hue permeates the hotel, from the property's pet black swans (yes, swans) to the swanky Black Swan bar and Birdies Cafe & Bar. But not everything about this hotel comes in such dark attire; the Mokara Spa & Salon, for example, appears bright and refreshing, while the outdoor pool and deck see plenty of sunshine. Most visitors love the feel of the property (in addition to its good looks) and appreciate its convenient Houston location. Guest rooms feature marble bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and coffee makers. Recent visitors do warn that all the superfluity comes at a price. Like its sister hotel, the Omni Houston Hotel Westside, the Omni Houston Hotel accepts and doles out Omni Select Guest rewards.

    Omni La Mansión del Rio
    San Antonio, TX
    1 mile to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4546 reviewsTripAdvisor (4546)
This historical property has seen the evolution of the River Walk and, more importantly, has kept up with it. Originally built in 1852 as a school, the shell of this Omni has enjoyed a prime downtown location for more than a century. Aside from the locale, visitors also appreciate the ambiance, praising the exposed-beam ceilings and bright-red decorative accents in the rooms. However, some feel that for the high price they're paying, their rooms could be updated. But the Omni La Mansión del Rio makes up for its old rooms with ample amenities: While here, spend some time by the pool or at the spa (located in the Mokara Hotel & Spa across the river), or get out and about in San Antonio on an Omni-organized history tour. Some guests weren't pleased with the River Walk noise and expensive parking, but gave high marks to the cuisine served at the award-winning Las Canarias restaurant. But for most, it's the hotel's friendly staff that truly makes staying here a pleasure. And if you're a member of the Omni Select Guest rewards program, you can spend the night in this popular hotel using points. What's more, members of the rewards program get free Wi-Fi access.

Horseshoe Bay Resort sits perched along the picturesque Lake Lyndon B. Johnson in Texas Hill Country. Of its many luxurious amenities, the resort offers a full-service spa, four golf courses (three of which are championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.), four pools and several dining options. Though you'll find plenty of things to do here, some travelers recommend driving to nearby Marble Falls for some more affordable eats or taking a daytrip to Austin (Texas' quirkiest city is just about a 55-mile drive southeast).

If you're in Houston to do some shopping, you're in luck: The Westin Houston, Memorial City rests just across the street from the Memorial City Mall (and is connected to it via skywalk). Even if you don't feel like exercising your credit card, recent guests say that this Westin property is great, as long as you don't need to be in the heart of Houston. Sitting about 13 miles west of downtown, The Westin Houston, Memorial City earns high praise for its friendly staff, with visitors commending everyone from the bartenders to the cleaning crew. Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center is an excellent choice if you're looking to turn a boring business trip into a quick family getaway. The first thing you'll notice about this complex in Galveston (roughly 51 miles southeast of Houston) is its Egyptian-inspired architecture. Yes, several of its buildings look like the Great Pyramids of Giza, but rather than crawling with mummies, they contain a rainforest, a 3D movie theater and an aquarium. The property also features its own convention center, and the 24-hour business center makes it easy to get work done, no matter the hour. Meanwhile, the kiddos will be kept busy at the water park (located next door) or with activities scheduled through the Kid's Crew. Recent guests say that great customer service isn't lost in the large property; most found hotel staff to be helpful and friendly. And at the end of the day, you can all sit down to a family dinner at Shearn's Seafood and Prime Steaks or Café in the Park, but be warned that they're all pricey. Recent guests say that the spacious accommodations are perfect for larger groups; those who stayed in one of the suites appreciated the Jacuzzi tub and the views from the private balcony.

While the Omni La Mansión del Rio caters to a more sophisticated clientele, the Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade draws more families. With its two expansive pools and Kids Crew program, this hotel provides plenty of ways to keep kiddos happy. Meanwhile, parents can take advantage of hotel perks like private massages and the on-site fitness facility with features like a hydrotherapy pool and a sauna. The Omni San Antonio also offers a variety of different room types catering to groups of all sizes, and pets are welcome to stay as long as they weigh less than 25 pounds. Recent guests say this Omni fit their needs but didn't provide the 'wow' factor of hotels closer to the River Walk (it's about 10 miles away), although room rates are slightly lower. Most family visitors value the sacrifice of location for a better price. To save even more, become a member of the Omni Select Guest program, which rewards frequent guests with points that can be put toward free stays and upgrades.

    JW Marriott Houston

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 1137 reviewsTripAdvisor (1137)
Staying at this JW Marriott right across from The Galleria means you'll find spacious and inviting rooms with soothing decor, custom linens and HDTVs with premium movie channels. Recent guests appreciated the on-site amenities like the indoor-outdoor pool, fitness center and sauna, but reviews were mixed on service and decor. Some recent visitors felt the service was top-notch and enjoyed the updated rooms (most of which were renovated in 2015), while other guests cited thin walls and lackluster cleaning service as not being up to "JW standards." Though they may disagree on whether or not you should sleep here, visitors do recommend the on-site restaurant, praising the locally sourced "Texas cuisine with a fresh twist" served at Destino. Alongside Lake Carolyn in Irving, Texas – about 30 miles from Fort Worth and nearly 12 miles from Dallas – the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas is probably not the best home base for sightseers. But according to recent guests, staying at this member of the Omni hotel clan is more of an escape than just a place to hang your hat. If your goal is to get away from it all, you'll find just about everything you need here. For starters, the Mokara Salon & Spa offers a long list of massages and skin treatments to ensure that you're relaxed and looking your best, and previous visitors say that the heated lakeside pool is the perfect place to catch some rays. And the on-site playground will keep younger travelers occupied. Even though DFW is in this Hilton's name, it's actually located about 22 miles from Dallas or Fort Worth in Grapevine, Texas. Catering primarily to business travelers, the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center boasts 63,000 square feet of meeting space as well as a full-service business center. And because not all deals take place in the boardroom, Hilton staff can help you arrange tee times at nearby golf courses, or you can practice your swing closer to home on the hotel's tennis courts. The property also houses a pool, a jogging track, fishing facilities and basketball and racquetball courts. Inside, recent visitors appreciated the large guest rooms and amenities like complimentary daily newspapers and 32-inch flat-screen TVs. The on-site restaurants will keep your appetite satisfied. Despite all its offerings, some guests weren't pleased – warning to double (and triple) check your reservations and be careful of hidden charges. Travelers frequently complain of extra fees for parking and shuttle service, but because this property falls under the Hilton umbrella, you can earn and use Hilton Honors rewards points to help offset added costs and room rates.
