In 1962, two luxury chains – Western International Hotels (later rebranded to Westin Hotels & Resorts) and Camino Real – joined forces to introduce the first-ever international luxury hotel brand in Mexico. In 1993, Camino Real and Westin ended their partnership and Camino Real became part of the Grupo Real Turismo clan. The 17 Camino Real properties are known for their versatile Mexican locations, which vary from sprawling oceanfront resorts to traditional urban hotels. Regardless of where you choose to stay, you can count on modern facilities and a commitment to quality service that's reflective of the Grupo Real name. And as a member of the Grupo Real clan, Camino Real allows guests enrolled in the Círculo Real (Royal Circle) program to receive extra perks like priority booking and room upgrades. Hotels sporting the Camino Real title appear on our Best Hotels in Mexico list; U.S. News-ranked properties are listed below.

    Camino Real Zaashila Huatulco
    Huatulco
#1 in Best Camino Real Hotels
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 776 reviewsTripAdvisor (776)

Despite its name, this member of the Camino Real clan isn't actually located in Huatulco; rather, the Camino Real Zaashila Huatulco sits about 3 miles northeast of its namesake along Oaxaca's resort-lined Pacific shore. With numerous competitors in the area, the Camino Real Zaashila Huatulco sets itself apart with its leafy setting, charming adobe-style architecture and, according to previous guests, reasonable room rates. The property's 151 accommodations feature Mediterranean-influenced decor and standard amenities like air conditioning, minibars and cable TVs. On the property grounds, visitors have access to two swimming pools (one of which is reportedly the largest in the Huatulco area), a tennis court and a Jacuzzi, as well as spa services. Meanwhile, younger travelers can fill their days with activity through the property's seasonal Children's Program. And in terms of dining, Camino Real Zaashila Huatulco houses four eateries (plus a bar) that serve what guests describe as delicious seafood and Mexican-inspired fare.

    Camino Real Polanco Mexico
    Mexico City
#2 in Best Camino Real Hotels
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 3.5 based on 1404 reviewsTripAdvisor (1404)

This Camino Real outpost prides itself on its unique design and expansive art collection. The brainchild of Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, the Camino Real Polanco Mexico features a gym, three pools (which guests say are always comfortably warm), eight restaurants, a lounge and two cafes. Recent guests give particular kudos to Morimoto, the Japanese-Mexican fusion restaurant, but they also suggest sampling the offerings at Café Tamayo. There you'll be able to enjoy an impressive Rufino Tamayo mural along with your continental breakfast. And though rooms are designed to mirror the hotel's overall artistic vibe – with contemporary furnishings and a minimalist aesthetic – some guests say they're too simple. Design preferences aside, rooms come appointed with work desks, minibars and wireless internet access. Past visitors also recommend requesting a room within the interior of the hotel; the single pane windows don't completely stifle the noise of Mexico City's busy streets.

Stretching across an 81-acre property next to Puerto Marques Bay, Camino Real Acapulco Diamante appeals to families craving seclusion. Don't worry, you're not marooned: Central Acapulco is just a 6-mile drive north. Rooms at this Camino Real locale are spacious and come equipped with marble floors, private balconies and air conditioning to keep things cool in the sweltering afternoon sun. Another way to beat the heat: Take a dip in one of the hotel's three pools. Overlooking the Pacific and shaded by towering palms, the pools (one of which is especially designed for kids) offer sweeping views of the bay. But while most guests praise the expansive pool area, some lament the hotel's small, private beach. If you're looking to lounge on a larger shoreline, consider booking a room closer to Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán, Acapulco's main street. You'll be closer to the city's top to-dos and enjoy access to a wider variety of eateries. Some reviewers also describe the food at Camino Real Acapulco Diamante's two restaurants and pool bar as slightly overpriced.

Modern and stylish are two words you'll most likely associate with the Camino Real Santa Fe México. A pillar of metal, glass and marble, this branch of the Camino Real brand stands tall in Santa Fe, one of western Mexico City's trendiest up-and-coming neighborhoods and a hub for international business. Accommodations are outfitted with contemporary design accents and amenities like flat-screen TVs, high-speed wireless internet access (for a fee), coffee makers and, in the suites, luxurious Jacuzzis. While guests agree that rooms are clean and comfortable, reviewers also say they expected more for the nightly rate. Previous visitors also lament the high menu prices at the Japanese restaurant and lounge, Bar Kyo, though they compliment the eatery's views and overall ambiance. If your wallet needs a break, venture into the neighborhood. Santa Fe hosts a variety of fashionable restaurants and nightclubs. Plus, this property participates in the Preferred Hotels & Resorts reward program, I Prefer.

    Camino Real Guadalajara

#6 in Best Camino Real Hotels
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 3.5 based on 308 reviewsTripAdvisor (308)

Stretching out across dozens of lush gardens from its perch in west Guadalajara, this Camino Real boasts enviable access to downtown attractions and charming outdoor spaces. Each of the Camino Real Guadalajara's guest rooms is appointed with a minibar, satellite TV and sweeping terrace overlooking the hotel's greenery and contemporary decor, though some recent visitors note the hotel could use a facelift. And to make the most out of your trip, you won't want to stay cooped up inside. The property offers tennis courts and mini-golf, though recent travelers say a main highlight of their stay was savoring refreshing cocktails while lounging at the four pools. As for dining, previous patrons give kudos to both on-site restaurants, La Huerta and Maria Bonita, for their tasty Mexican and global fare. If you're visiting for work, you'll find a business center and high-speed Wi-Fi connections, not to mention an ideal location (just more than 5 miles west of downtown Guadalajara).

    Camino Real Pedregal Mexico
    Mexico City
#7 in Best Camino Real Hotels
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 3 based on 285 reviewsTripAdvisor (285)

Ideal for road warriors, the Camino Real Pedregal Mexico sits in southern Mexico City, about a 15-mile drive southwest from Mexico City International Airport. While well-situated for working guests attending business meetings during their stay, reviewers say the hotel isn't as convenient for tourists. If you've come to Mexico City for sightseeing, consider staying at the Camino Real Polanco Mexico, which is located in a more tourist-friendly neighborhood. But just because you're not in the heart of the Mexico City food scene doesn't mean you'll miss out on tasty dishes should you opt for the Pedregal locale. Recent visitors say the fare at the two on-site restaurants, a bistro and La Huerta, is delicious (albeit slightly overpriced). As far as lodging goes, guests say the rooms at the Camino Real Pedregal are spacious and clean with minibars, coffee makers and satellite TV. Though most travelers enjoyed the extra space, many express disappointment with the steep internet and bottled water fees.

    Camino Real Manzanillo
    Manzanillo
#8 in Best Camino Real Hotels
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 3 based on 144 reviewsTripAdvisor (144)

Guests describe Camino Real Manzanillo as a quiet seaside retreat removed from the party atmosphere of other Manzanillo resorts — and that's just the way they like it. The four pools (including two designated kids' pools) allow you to cool off from the warm Mexican sun, while the adjacent beach provides a serene place to watch the sunset. You can also watch the sun go down from La Huerta and La Vela, the resort's two on-site restaurants. And according to past visitors, Camino Real's small size works in its favor, as it allows more room for personal service and seclusion. The resort's 50 suites and master suites feature two or three bedrooms, along with living areas, dining rooms, cable TVs and private balconies. Still, some guests do say that the compact bathrooms found in each suite do feel a bit too cramped for comfort. You'll find this Camino Real outpost in Manzanillo, approximately 170 miles southeast of Puerto Vallarta.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 2.5 based on 157 reviewsTripAdvisor (157)

Stretched out across leafy grounds that are within sight of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains, the Camino Real Saltillo serves as a peaceful retreat about 4 miles east of downtown Saltillo. Recent guests recommend taking advantage of the hotel's stellar vantage point by asking for a room facing east. Step out onto your private terrace and enjoy the view, or relax in the garden: Every room opens to the well-maintained landscape. Accommodations also feature air-conditioning, satellite TVs and minibars. If you're unable to snag a room looking toward the mountains, head to the outdoor pool to catch a glimpse of the peaks in the distance. When you're ready to chow down, La Huerta offers regional and international dishes, while Buenavista Steak House boasts prime sirloin and an extensive wine collection, including Chilean, Argentine, French, Italian and Mexican vino. You'll find this Camino Real outpost about 11 miles south of Plan de Guadalupe International Airport.
