    The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel
    New York, NY
    2.9 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 951 reviewsTripAdvisor (951)
    Free WiFi

The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel can be found in New York's lower Manhattan neighborhood near the Brooklyn Bridge and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. While the property's public spaces feature Old World details like Oriental rugs, rich wood paneling and a pyramidal skylight, this Thompson Hotels outpost's modern guest rooms and suites offer crisp white interiors with custom leather headboards, Carrara marble bathrooms, Asian-inspired lamps and hardwood floors with purple or blue accent rugs. In-room tech amenities include free Wi-Fi access and flat-screen TVs with digital video recorders. After you've settled into your accommodations, grab a bite in one of the two on-site restaurants. Acclaimed chef Tom Colicchio created Temple Court, the hotel's signature restaurant, which serves contemporary American dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meanwhile, the Keith McNally-affiliated Augustine restaurant, which opened in November 2016, dishes up brasserie-style meals. Or, if you'd like a light dinner alongside specialty libations, visit the Alley Cat lounge in the once-hidden cellar. You can also listen to DJs and musicians at this venue. Overall, past guests enjoyed the hotel's food, service and classic yet trendy vibe, though some complained that rooms could use more outlets and better lighting.

Hotel 50 Bowery, A Joie de Vivre Hotel
    New York City, NY
    2.4 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 5 based on 525 reviewsTripAdvisor (525)
A trendy newcomer to the Lower East Side in Manhattan, Hotel 50 Bowery opened in May 2017 and is the first Joie de Vivre hotel in New York City. Travelers laud the views from the rooms and the rooftop, the modern decor and the friendly hotel staff. Accommodations are equipped with free Wi-Fi access, stocked minifridges, personal steamers and Jonathan Adler toiletries. All feature neutral colors like white, gray and wood, with colorful accent linens, textured walls and original artwork. (The only standard amenity some felt was missing from their rooms was a coffee maker; one can be requested from the front desk.) Keep in mind that there is a daily hotel fee that includes Wi-Fi access, use of the fitness center, free coffee in the lobby, dining discounts, concierge service and more. Previous guests highly recommend the 21st-floor rooftop bar and lounge, The Crown, for its excellent skyline views and its tasty libations and small plates. Those looking for a more substantial meal can savor Asian cuisine at Rice & Gold or explore the surrounding eateries in Chinatown. The property can also host meetings, events and weddings in any of its indoor or outdoor venues. While Hotel 50 Bowery is slightly removed from the city's major attractions, travelers can easily access them via two nearby subway stations. Plus, the hotel's location puts guests near Brooklyn and many of Manhattan's vibrant neighborhoods, including SoHo, the East Village and Little Italy. World of Hyatt members will be glad to know they can enjoy loyalty rewards at this brand outpost.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2190 reviewsTripAdvisor (2190)

What recent visitors appreciate most about the Chicago Athletic Association hotel is its distinct point of view. The hotel is housed in the building that was once home to the Chicago Athletic Association, and its Venetian Gothic architecture dates back to the 1890s. Staying true to its athletic heritage, the hotel's designers repurposed elements of the original club into the property's vintage look. For instance, a pommel horse is used as a bench and nightstands feature tennis racquet leather grips for legs. Beyond the interesting aesthetics, rooms also offer boxing-style robes, complimentary Wi-Fi access, C.O. Bigelow toiletries and bedside tables with USB flash drive outlets. Aside from the unique interiors, travelers also rave about the rooftop restaurant, Cindy's. Housed within a vaulted glass and steel atrium, the space offers views of Millennium Park (situated across the street from the hotel), the Art Institute of Chicago and Lake Michigan. Equally impressive are the hotel's five other bars and eateries, ranging from an on-site Shake Shack to a more formal farm-to-table restaurant. Reviewers particularly liked the Game Room bar, which is located in the original billiards room of the athletic club and features games like shuffleboard and bocce ball. It should come as no surprise that the hotel also features a 24-hour fitness center with complimentary, trainer-led group runs along Lake Michigan every Saturday at 8 a.m. You can also get your workout in riding around the Windy City on the hotel's complimentary bikes (available seasonally).
