Pan American World Airways opened the first InterContinental hotel back in 1946, making it the world's oldest international hotel brand. Celebrities and dignitaries, such as Ava Gardener, Louis Armstrong, President Ronald Reagan and Britain's Prince William, have all been guests of InterContinental hotels. Because InterContinental properties (there are more than 180 of them across more than 60 countries) are individually owned, each exhibits its own distinct personality reflective of its location. What's more, many InterContinental hotels – such as The Willard InterContinental in Washington, D.C., and the InterContinental London Park Lane – are housed in historically significant buildings, which only adds to the ambiance. However, every InterContinental hotel adheres to the brand's standards, touting high-end amenities and fine dining establishments. Guests who frequently stay at InterContinental Hotels Group properties can sign up to earn free stays, transportation discounts and even guided tours through the IHG Rewards Club program. Many InterContinental properties have earned spots on our Best Hotels in the USA, Best Hotels in Mexico, Best Hotels in Europe and Best Hotels in Canada rankings. U.S. News-ranked InterContinental properties are listed below.

The InterContinental Los Angeles Century City is ideal for those looking for reasonably priced accommodations in the City of Angels. In addition to enviable rates, this hotel offers resort-like perks including romms outfitted with coffee makers, balconies, flat-screen TVs and walk-in showers with soaking tubs. The InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown stands out for boasting breathtaking views of the Los Angeles skyline. The 73-story property, which opened in July 2017, is a modern architectural marvel, but recent guests have mixed feelings about its design. Some past visitors praised the contemporary room interiors, while others lamented their malfunctioning room keys and the expensive parking fees (which cost around $50 per day). Standard room amenities include separate showers and tubs, coffee makers and HD TVs. Outside the accommodations, travelers will find an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a separate childrens area, a 24-hour fitness center and multiple fire pits. There are also five eateries, including a French steakhouse, a buffet, a lobby lounge, a sushi restaurant and Spire73, the tallest open-air bar in the Western Hemisphere. What's more, this hotel is part of the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts family, so members of the IHG Rewards Club can earn or redeem points while staying here.

Reviewers raved about the conscientious, helpful staff at this IHG property, heaping compliments on everyone from the bellhops to the housekeepers. Another point of praise? The clean, spacious rooms, which start at 380 square feet and come equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows that show off either the San Diego Bay or the skyline. Other in-room amenities include Keurig coffee makers, flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi access. Keep in mind: Wi-Fi access is covered by the $30 daily amenity fee, which also includes two bottled waters replenished daily and a $25 one-time credit to Vistal Bar + Restaurant, among other extras. Del Frisco's Double Eagle steakhouse is also available on-site, but many past guests preferred Vistal, complimenting the restaurant credit as well as the eatery's Southern California cuisine and bay views. For more views, head up to the fourth-floor pool or the 3,300-square-foot fitness center which overlooks the harbor. Like its sister property – the InterContinental Mark Hopkins – the InterContinental San Francisco is geared mostly toward corporate travelers. But that doesn't mean that it's all about business: After all, it's located in San Francisco's hip South of Market neighborhood. Guest rooms cater to business and leisure travelers alike with high-speed internet access (for a fee), LCD TVs, iPod docking stations and minibars. Recent guests said that the decor is nothing to write home about, but that the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows were breathtaking – request a room on a higher floor to truly take advantage of the scenery. Meanwhile, the contemporary American cuisine served at the hotel's Michelin-star rated restaurant garners praise as well. If you're only looking for a drink, the hotel's on-site Bar 888 keeps the grappa (its specialty) flowing. What's more, if you're a member of the IHG rewards program, you can earn or redeem points for staying here.

    4.0-star Hotel Class
Named after one of the big players that helped form the Central Pacific Railroad, this hotel was bought by InterContinental in 1973. Despite its history, some say the hotel lost a bit of its character, with the decor looking more dated than charming. Still, many enjoy this Nob Hill hotel and the great views of San Francisco from its in-house restaurant, Top of the Mark. Not to be confused with its sister property, the InterContinental San Francisco, this hotel is especially popular among business travelers, who can use the multiple meeting rooms and take advantage of the property's business center and high-speed internet connection. Leisure travelers will appreciate the hotel's proximity to popular San Fran neighborhoods like Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown, as well as the city's famed cable cars. The InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco also offers pillow menus and Keurig coffee makers in all of its rooms and an on-site fitness center. Plus, members of the IHG Rewards Club program can use or accrue points for choosing to stay here.
