Pan American World Airways opened the first InterContinental hotel back in 1946, making it the world's oldest international hotel brand. Celebrities and dignitaries, such as Ava Gardener, Louis Armstrong, President Ronald Reagan and Britain's Prince William, have all been guests of InterContinental hotels. Because InterContinental properties (there are more than 180 of them across more than 60 countries) are individually owned, each exhibits its own distinct personality reflective of its location. What's more, many InterContinental hotels – such as The Willard InterContinental in Washington, D.C., and the InterContinental London Park Lane – are housed in historically significant buildings, which only adds to the ambiance. However, every InterContinental hotel adheres to the brand's standards, touting high-end amenities and fine dining establishments. Guests who frequently stay at InterContinental Hotels Group properties can sign up to earn free stays, transportation discounts and even guided tours through the IHG Rewards Club program. Many InterContinental properties have earned spots on our Best Hotels in the USA, Best Hotels in Mexico, Best Hotels in Europe and Best Hotels in Canada rankings. U.S. News-ranked InterContinental properties are listed below.

    The Willard InterContinental
    Washington, DC
    0.5 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4036 reviewsTripAdvisor (4036)
The massive Willard sits at the heart of everything D.C.; the National Mall and all of the most recognizable monuments are within walking distance. And recent guests say The Willard InterContinental's interior is just as impressive as its surroundings, particularly the massive marble columns and intricate chandeliers in the lobby. Elegant decor extends to The Willard's accommodations, which feature eye-popping red accents, wood furnishings and luxurious amenities like flat-screen TVs, individual climate controls and fully stocked minibars. To ensure a restful night's sleep, request a room that looks west, facing the Washington Monument rather than 14th Street. And after a long day of sightseeing, you can relax at the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa or grab a bite to eat at one of the on-site reastaurants. If you participate in InterContinental's Rewards Club, you can accrue or redeem free perks and discounts by choosing to stay here.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3092 reviewsTripAdvisor (3092)
Recent guests seem to expect excellence from InterContinental hotels. And this iteration — which sits at the heart of the ritzy Buckhead area — certainly delivers. In fact, many who've stayed here say this property is a perfect balance of luxury and convenience. Accommodations at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta feature a hint of Old World decor, but the amenities are up to date: Expect to find flat-screen TVs and high-speed Internet access (for a fee). This InterContinental hotel also impresses with its regional cuisine, served in an inviting atmosphere in the Southern Art Restaurant. And boasting both a fitness center and spa, this hotel is determined to help you stay in shape. What's more, previous guests say the warmth can be found throughout the hotel thanks to its welcoming staff. InterContinental Boston

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 5251 reviewsTripAdvisor (5251)
When it comes to luxurious lodging, you can count on InterContinental – and its Boston branch is no exception, boasting a wide variety of amenities, including a bounty of spa services and several on-site restaurants. The InterContinental also serves as the perfect home base for family travelers; it's located just a short walk from the harbor, the Boston Children's Museum, and the New England Aquarium. Plus the elegant accommodations, which feature a warm beige and yellow color scheme and upscale amenities, such as flat-screen TVs, minibars and waterfront and skyline views, win over guests for the most part. However, a few recent visitors note that the overall room decor could use a bit of a revamp. If you frequent InterContinental properties and take part in the company's IHG Rewards Club program, you may earn extra perks, such as free stays and discounts, by choosing to stay here.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 559 reviewsTripAdvisor (559)

Situated inside the tallest building west of Chicago, the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown boasts breathtaking views of the Los Angeles skyline. The 73-story property, which opened in July 2017, is a modern architectural marvel, but recent guests have mixed feelings about its design. Some past visitors praised the contemporary room interiors, while others lamented their malfunctioning room keys and the elevator system (which requires switching elevators to reach certain floors). Standard room amenities include separate showers and tubs, minibars, Keurig coffee makers and 49-inch HD TVs. Outside the accommodations, travelers will find an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a separate childrens area, a 24-hour fitness center and multiple fire pits. There are also five eateries, including a French steakhouse, a buffet, a lobby lounge, a sushi restaurant and Spire73, the tallest open-air bar in the Western Hemisphere. What's more, this hotel is part of the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts family, so members of the IHG Rewards Club can earn or redeem points while staying here.

    InterContinental The Clement Monterey
    Monterey, CA
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3232 reviewsTripAdvisor (3232)
The InterContinental The Clement Monterey's location on Cannery Row is hard to beat. Guests appreciate the hotel's proximity to shopping, restaurants and attractions like the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Described as a home-away-from-home by some, this InterContinental property also features a health club, pool and oceanfront patio. Guest rooms here are spacious and well-lit, boasting excellent views of Monterey Bay and housing such amenities as plasma TVs, minibars and spa-style bathrooms. But before you retire for the evening, grab a bite to eat at the C restaurant, which garners good reviews for its seafood entrees. InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile
    Chicago, IL
    0.7 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 5459 reviewsTripAdvisor (5459)
The InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile still has touches of its historic 1929 incarnation as the Medinah Athletic Club. The original hand-stenciled ceilings and tapestries continue to adorn the lobby, while rooms in the Historic Tower have Old World features like vintage patterns and gold accents. And though much of the original athletic club's facilities were reconfigured to make way for the hotel's amenities, the junior Olympic swimming pool (in all its vintage opulence) remains. Still, this Chicago hotel has kept up with the times: Guest rooms come equipped with high-speed internet access (for a fee), flat-screen TVs and minibars. In addition to this InterContinental's antique charm, recent visitors also laud the hotel's mid-Magnificent Mile locale and its exceptional staff. The only thing travelers lamented was the fee for in-room Wi-Fi and the pricey charge for on-site parking. The Eno wine bar, however, earns praise from discerning diners for its master sommelier selections, and travelers also appreciate the hearty plates served at Michael Jordan's Steakhouse. The icing on the cake: Members of the IHG Rewards Club loyalty program can earn points by staying here or cash in rewards to help cover the cost of their stay.

    InterContinental Cleveland
    Cleveland, OH
    3.7 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1030 reviewsTripAdvisor (1030)
Previous visitors praised the InterContinental Cleveland for its reasonable room rates, easy access to the Cleveland Clinic and tasty cuisine served at on-site eateries, North Coast Café and Table 45. As far as bedding down is concerned, you can rest assured that you'll have high-end room amenities, like goose down comforters, 300-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens, lavish bath products and sleek flat-screen TVs. As an added bonus, if you're a frequent guest of InterContinental properties, you're eligible to receive free perks, such as free nights' stays through the company's IHG Rewards Club. The hotel's only drawback, according to some recent guests, is its subpar cleaning service. And since the hotel sits on the Cleveland Clinic Health System campus, it's highly frequented by hospital visitors and patients. As such, and due to its zero-tolerance noise policy at night, this hotel should not be your top choice for raucous weekends or rowdy birthday parties.

    InterContinental New York Barclay
    New York, NY
    0.8 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1965 reviewsTripAdvisor (1965)
Originally opened in 1926 as one of four hotels built during the expansion of Grand Central Terminal, the InterContinental New York Barclay reopened its doors in April 2016 after undergoing an extensive two-year restoration. Now, this historical InterContinental property (which once welcomed notable guests like Perle Mesta and Ernest Hemingway) combines traditional Federalist decor and local 1920s-inspired artwork with modern touches like bold accent colors and a fully equipped fitness center. All of the hotel's 733 guest rooms and suites come with custom Anichini bedding, flat-screen TVs and subway tiled-bathrooms, while the upgraded Presidential Suite offers additional perks like a private fitness center, a baby grand piano and a library office. Most former guests appreciated their rooms' decor and amount of space, though some bemoaned poor water pressure in the showers. No matter which accommodation you choose, you'll enjoy access to The Gin Parlour (where 80-plus premium gins are served alongside international dishes made with sustainable, organic ingredients), a business center and 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Plus, travelers who pay an additional daily fee (which ranges from $80 to $120) can access the Club InterContinental, a lobby lounge that offers free Wi-Fi access, personalized reception services and complimentary breakfast, among other amenities. Keep in mind that IHG Rewards Club members can also earn or redeem points when staying here.

InterContinental Los Angeles Century City at Beverly Hills
    Los Angeles, CA
    7.9 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2470 reviewsTripAdvisor (2470)
Like its Century City neighbor, the Hyatt Regency, the InterContinental Los Angeles Century City is a reasonably priced hotel. But this property has a few more luxurious, resort-like perks than its competition. Rooms here feature coffee makers, balconies, flat-screen TVs, and walk-in showers with soaking tubs. This impressive property houses a gym, outdoor infinity pool and full-service spa, not to mention plenty of meeting space. Guests praise the strong drinks and fresh sushi served up at the on-site restaurant, Mari. Unfortunately, parking was a pain for the InterContinental's recent guests: Visitors say you'll face exorbitant fees regardless of whether you choose to pay for valet service or self-parking ($46.20 per night). But members of the IHG Rewards Club can redeem rewards at this InterContinental property, such as free nights' stays.

Positioned along the historic Washington Channel in southwest Washington, InterContinental Washington D.C. - The Wharf sits amid brand-new shops, restaurants and bars. All 278 accommodations come equipped with Nespresso coffee makers, minibars, 50-inch smart TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi access and spa-like bathrooms. Suites include extra space and high-end perks like Bose speakers, river views and $100 food and beverage credits. That credit is best used at Kith/Kin, the property's modern dining venue, where guests can feast on breakfast, lunch and dinner items influenced by cuisines from Nigeria, Jamaica, New Orleans and more. Recent guests praise the modern decor, the room size and the dining options in and around the hotel, as well as the nearby music venue, The Anthem. But, some past visitors note that the property's location is farther from major attractions than they anticipated. Thankfully, the hotel runs a complimentary shuttle to and from some of the district's monuments and museums. Residing in the heart of downtown Austin – just one block from rambunctious Sixth Street – the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin is ideal for anyone looking to be at the center of the action. (However, previous visitors warn that you will pay for the location in parking fees.) And though we doubt you'll spend much time in the hotel, the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin does boast a sauna, indoor lap pool, whirlpool and fitness center should you prefer pumping iron to partying. Whether you're planning on going out or staying in, start your night off with dinner and drinks at Stephen F.'s Bar & Terrace, which serves up an eclectic menu of entrees and shareable small plates. You'll need to book this hotel at least a month in advance if you want to visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras. And book it you should, since the extra popular parade passes right by the InterContinental's front doors on St. Charles Avenue. However, you'll probably see more business travelers lodging here throughout the rest of the year, because this hotel prefers to wow you with basic luxuries rather than hip, over-the-top styling. The property underwent a full renovation in 2014 and guest rooms are now outfitted with work desks and flat-screen TVs. Recent guests were fans of the updated accommodations, outdoor pool and the friendly customer service, though others thought the breakfast and parking fees were a tad pricey. For shopaholics, the location of this InterContinental is one of its best features: It overlooks the Country Club Plaza from its perch on Ward Parkway. Guests also appreciated the hotel's style: Marble baths, crystal fixtures and extravagant textiles make it the ideal spot for a weary shopper to get some rest. The Oak Room is a good place to refuel for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and it has a wide selection of vintages on its comprehsive beverage list. But then again, the outdoor pool and sundeck might trump all when it comes to relaxation. Still, what guests tend to comment about most is the kind and helpful staff. TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 2811 reviewsTripAdvisor (2811)
Named after one of the big players that helped form the Central Pacific Railroad, this hotel was bought by InterContinental in 1973. Despite its history, some say the hotel lost a bit of its character, with the decor looking more dated than charming. Still, many enjoy this Nob Hill hotel and the great views of San Francisco from its in-house restaurant, Top of the Mark. Not to be confused with its sister property, the InterContinental San Francisco, this hotel is especially popular among business travelers, who can use the multiple meeting rooms and take advantage of the property's business center and high-speed internet connection. Leisure travelers will appreciate the hotel's proximity to popular San Fran neighborhoods like Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown, as well as the city's famed cable cars. Don't get this InterContinental mixed up with the InterContinental Cleveland. The InterContinental Suites Hotel Cleveland sits on Euclid Avenue, at the western end of the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
