    5.0-star Hotel Class
    • Free WiFi

Named after John Dewberry, one of the South's most polarizing and powerful real estate developers, The Dewberry Charleston is the result of an almost eight-year renovation of a former federal building. Designed to exude old-world Charleston charm, all of the property's 155 guest rooms and suites feature hand-painted wallpaper by a local artist, chandeliers, queen- or king-sized beds dressed in Irish linens, flat-screen TVs and marble bathrooms with glass-enclosed showers. Recent visitors raved about the beautiful and clean accommodations, although some bemoaned the lack of coffee makers and work desks. Should you need to conduct business while staying here, three event venues, including a ballroom and its adjacent pre-function space, are available. Fitness buffs, meanwhile, can work out in the fitness studio, borrow a bike for a ride around town or participate in rooftop yoga classes. Once you've worked up an appetite, sit down for a meal at Henrietta's, where international dishes are served in a mahogany-paneled dining room with Roaring '20s-themed artwork. After filling up on gourmet fare, reserve The Dewberry's Volvo house car to reach sights like The Battery and the Charleston City Market.

    5.0-star Hotel Class
    • Free WiFi

What the Hotel Pulitzer lacks in amenities guests say it makes up for in stellar location and style. There is no spa or pool on-site, but with popular points of interest, including the Anne Frank House and the Nine Streets neighborhood nearby, guests likely won't need any extra on-site thrills to keep them entertained. The hotel is spread across 25 classic Dutch houses, most of which are situated along the canals. This translates to plenty of opportunities to view the picturesque waterways from the comfort of your own bed. Standard rooms achieve a look that is both contemporary and cozy, with natural wood headboards backed by exposed brick walls or vaulted ceilings, tufted velvet ottomans and colorful chaise lounges. Its chic boutique sensibility seamlessly carries into its outdoor spaces and restaurants. Guests loved the hotel's gardens, which sit comfortably between its many buildings, offering a quiet escape from the city. There are also three eateries on-site, including a hotel bar. Care to explore beyond the confines of the hotel? Consider signing up for a 75-minute canal tour in the hotel's own salon boat (not included in your room rate).

All-inclusive perks are abundant at this Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, property, ranging from unlimited alcoholic beverages and meals at one of four on-site restaurants (a few more are housed at the resort's neighboring sister property, Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa, and are covered by the all-inclusive room rates) to private beach access and use of the on-site tennis, squash and basketball courts. For those looking for a bit more relaxation, take a dip in the rooftop infinity pool or book a massage at Spa Imagine. But if that's not enough to keep you on the property, wander into central Puerto Vallarta, located about 10 miles north. In addition to offering several natural and architectural marvels, the city provides plenty of delicious eats. If you'd rather dine on-site, recent visitors said you can't go wrong with any of the resort's eateries (although they caution that the restaurants can be a bit pricey if you don't opt for the all-inclusive plan). The accommodations were another point of praise for previous guests. Each includes a walk-in rain shower, a terrace with a hammock and a Jacuzzi tub, a 55-inch LED TV and electric curtains controlled by the in-suite iPad. Keep in mind: Hotel Mousai is an adults-only property, so leave the kids at home during your stay.
