    The Blackstone, Autograph Collection
    Chicago, IL
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2391 reviewsTripAdvisor (2391)

Travelers have a favorite word for The Blackstone, Autograph Collection: comfortable. With its long history (the hotel dates back to 1910), this South Loop property could easily garner a stuffy atmosphere, but recent guests attest the Renaissance Blackstone maintains its landmark status while embracing a luxuriously modern ambiance. The hotel offers 332 well-appointed guest rooms and suites, each boasting modern decor, minifridges, coffee makers and, on the upper floors, Lake Michigan and Magnificent Mile vistas. Recent visitors also rave about the hotel's convenient setting across the street from Chicago's Grant Park. On the other hand, travelers were disappointed they had to pay for in-room Internet access, and some noted room walls were thin so it was easy to hear hallway conversations and the passing "L" train. When it comes to dining, the on-site restaurant, Mercat a la Planxa, serves tapas and Catalan-inspired cocktails. If you want more culinary variety, Michigan Avenue's acclaimed eateries are close by. And keep in mind, members of the Marriott Rewards program can can earn or cash in points at this Autograph Collection property.

    Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel
    Chicago, IL
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1960 reviewsTripAdvisor (1960)

Sitting on the northern fringes of the Loop (near Chicago's theater district), the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel is a popular choice for business and leisure travelers alike. Less than a block from the State/Lake Station – which connects to the Green, Purple, Brown, Orange and Pink "L" train lines – the hotel's primo location makes it easy to explore beyond your digs. On top of its convenience, guests were also impressed with their stay at this Renaissance property. Visitors love the large amount of space in the stylish and comfortable guest rooms thanks to amenities like flat-screen TVs, designer linens and excellent city views (many recommend requesting a room facing the river). Additionally, the hotel features an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center. The customer service also leaves a good impression, with travelers saying that the staff were very friendly. But guests are quick to complain about the high cost of parking here, which will add $69 a day to your final bill, as well as the noise in rooms overlooking the "L" train line tracks. The in-house restaurant also gets knocked for its prices, though travelers do say the food is good. Those looking to save can use Marriott Rewards points to cover the cost of their room.

    W Chicago - Lakeshore
    Chicago, IL

Overlooking Lake Michigan (as you might've guessed from its name), this W hotel offers guests a trendy Chicago home base just minutes from some of the city's top attractions. Popular hotel features include the Bliss Spa on the eighth floor, as well as CURRENT restaurant, which serves seasonal modern Italian cuisine. Meanwhile, the accommodations feature decor with bright pops of color here and there, as well as LCD flat-screen TVs, minifridges, high-speed Internet access and amenities for your pet, should you require them. Guests say they enjoy the W Chicago - Lakeshore's waterfront location, but some found difficulty with an at-times too-cool staff and were disappointed with charges for in-room Wi-Fi. 4.5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 750 reviewsTripAdvisor (750)
    Free WiFi

You'll find this boutique-style hotel attached to The Shops at North Bridge in Chicago's River North area, just a short walk from the Chicago River and several L train stops. Unlike the city's other high-end accommodations, which tend to skew contemporary, this Luxury Collection property exudes an old-school sumptuousness with rich jewel tones, marble floors, crystal chandeliers and plush furniture. The recently renovated guestrooms continue the tone of the lobby, with their elegant amenities and design. Recent guests especially like the Molton Brown toiletries, which complement the accommodations' cozy bedding and pillows, large bathrooms and high-tech amenities like iPod alarm clocks and flat-screen TVs. During your stay, you will have access to the hotel's rooftop, Upstairs at the Gwen, where you can enjoy a cocktail and spectacular views of the city. The bar received mixed reviews though. For something more filling, try the American-Asian fusion cuisine served up at The Terrace Restaurant. Chicago visitors also choose this hotel for its proximity to shopping, both at the mall and out on the nearby Magnificent Mile. What's more, Marriott Rewards members can rack up points and perks at this property.

    JW Marriott Chicago
    Chicago, IL
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1675 reviewsTripAdvisor (1675)

It took a $396 million renovation to restore this JW Marriott (a gorgeous former bank building) to its former architectural glory. And according to recent guests, it was money well spent. Situated just a block from the Chicago Board of Trade at the heart of the Loop, the JW Marriott Chicago impresses business travelers with its central location and leisure travelers with its well-equipped fitness center and 20,000-square-foot spa, Spa at JW Chicago. Meanwhile, everyone seems to agree that the guest rooms look great: Guests rave about the oversized bathrooms and modern in-room amenities like iPhone docks and flat-screen TVs. When they aren’t enjoying their accommodations, many visitors flock to the hotel bar and gourmet Italian eatery, The Florentine. But the real highlight of a stay here, according to many travelers, is the hotel's quality customer service. Although you shouldn't expect to be waited on hand and foot, visitors say that the JW Marriott Chicago's staff works hard to ensure a comfortable stay. What's more, Marriott Rewards members can earn or redeem points by choosing to bed down here.

    Hotel EMC2, Autograph Collection
    Chicago, IL
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 399 reviewsTripAdvisor (399)

Frequently described by guests as "whimsical," "trendy" and "cool," this Autograph Collection hotel aims to marry art and science to create a unique experience for Chicago travelers. You'll see these concepts articulated throughout the hotel, whether it's with the property's "robot attendants," Leo and Cleo, each room's Amazon Alexa or the Leonardo da Vinci quote that greets guests in the lobby. Hotel EMC2 even nods to the creator of its namesake at The Albert, the property's on-site restaurant. (Albert Einstein's famous special-relativity equation is E=MC2.) And though there are imaginative touches throughout, including interactive art installations and an "infusary" – a chandelier-like structure that creates house-infused liquors, this Marriott outpost still offers some of the standard amenities you'd expect in a hotel, including a fitness center and guest rooms outfitted with minifridges, coffee makers and TVs. Plus, its location in the Streeterville neighborhood, adjacent to the Magnificent Mile, can't be beat. Though most guests loved the quirky design, others weren't as impressed. But because of this hotel’s Marriott ties, members of the Marriott Rewards program and SPG can cash in or accrue points for choosing to stay here.

    The Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago
    Chicago, IL
    4.5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 2868 reviewsTripAdvisor (2868)

Sitting right at the corner of Michigan and Delaware avenues, this Westin hotel is just steps from the Magnificent Mile's best boutiques. And if you've got kids in tow, you'll appreciate the hotel's proximity to Navy Pier (roughly 15 minutes away by bus). Guests note that The Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago's downtown location is its best feature, but convenience does have its drawbacks. Some previous visitors complain of small rooms that could use a facelift and a noisy atmosphere due to traffic on the street below. Do your best to reserve a spot on a higher floor; no matter which room you end up in, you'll find it features Westin's signature Heavenly bed and bath fixtures, as well as a flat-screen TV and wireless Internet access (for a fee). Plus, several travelers say that they're willing to forgive the cramped conditions as a result of this Westin's reasonably priced rates. When you're not out on the town, you can get your workout in at the hotel fitness center, or you can stop counting calories and enjoy a meal at The Grill on the Alley, which receives praise for its prime steak and fresh seafood. And because this hotel is part of the Marriott hotel family, Marriott Rewards members can earn and use points here.

The W Chicago - City Center (located in the Loop, less than a mile east of the Art Institute of Chicago) is known for its trendy attire and almost cavernous feel. Like many W Hotels, this Chicago iteration is geared toward hip couples and savvy business folk. Many travelers report satisfaction with their W Chicago - City Center experience. Fans of the Westin brand will have a few options when it comes to lodging in and around Chicago; this particular hotel is located on the outskirts of the city, about 15 miles west of O'Hare International Airport and a little less than 30 miles northwest of the city center. Although you might save some coin staying here, some recent visitors say that this location offers a few annoyances, such as late night noise from the hotel atrium and a long commute into the Windy City. However, if you're looking for a comfy place to bed down that's close to the airport, this Westin outpost is well-equipped. Rooms are outfitted with the Westin Heavenly beds (and dog beds, upon request), flat-screen TVs and high-speed Internet access (for a fee).
