    The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas
    Dallas, TX
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 945 reviewsTripAdvisor (945)
Located near the Museum of Art, the Dallas edition of the luxurious Ritz-Carlton brand goes beyond just offering many of the amenities you'd expect from a five-star hotel. For instance, this hotel boasts not just a pool, but a saline-treated rooftop pool; and not just facials and massages, but a 12,000-square-foot spa. But guests say that the rooms alone are worth The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas' high price tag. Spacious and elegant, these high-end digs come equipped with 400-thread-count linens and iPod docking stations, not to mention HD televisions and fully stocked minibars. If peanuts and cookies won't tide you over, make reservations at Fearing's Restaurant; previous visitors said that the eatery deserves its numerous accolades thanks to its gourmet American cuisine. But while most recent guests were satisified, a few say the service wasn't up to par for a Ritz property. Because of The Ritz-Carlton's affiliation with Marriott, member's of the company's loyalty program can trade in their rewards points for extra perks.

    Hotel ICON, Autograph Collection
    Houston, TX
    1.6 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1388 reviewsTripAdvisor (1388)
Favored by guests for its sheer decadence, Hotel ICON caters to a trendier crowd. Occupying the former Union National Bank just north of downtown Houston, the Hotel ICON offers a highly ornamental baroque style of decoration. Rich colors, lush fabrics, ornate patterns and numerous objets d'art fill the lobby and guest rooms, mingling with in-room amenities like soaking tubs and complimentary high-speed internet access. (Guests highly recommend booking a corner room for more natural light.) Soom rooms come with a private whirlpool, and all guests can indulge in the succulent dishes at Line & Lariat restaurant. Traveler hoping to explore the area surrounding the hotel had best keep in mind that parking is expensive here though. The Westin Austin Downtown
    Austin, TX
    0.3 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 859 reviewsTripAdvisor (859)
Located in the heart of downtown, The Westin Austin Downtown sits just one block south of Sixth Street, where the numerous performance venues give the city its nickname – the "Live Music Capital of the World." Some guests noted that being in the center of it all resulted in a noisy atmosphere, but most agreed that it didn't intrude on their rest in the new accommodations (the hotel opened in July 2015). Guest rooms are appointed with signature Heavenly Beds, minibars, iPod docking stations, Wi-Fi access (for a fee) and coffee makers for brewing Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea. Before heading out on the town, travelers can work up a sweat in the fitness center or relax by the rooftop pool, then head to the Stella San Jac, the on-site restaurant. Recent travelers said the innovative Southern cuisine was a cut above other hotel restaurants in the area. Visitors were also impressed with the service, which they say is the perfect example of Texas hospitality. Plus, those who participate in the Marriott Bonvoy program can earn and redeem points here.

    W Austin
    Austin, TX
    0.4 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1339 reviewsTripAdvisor (1339)
Surrounded by some of Austin's favorite entertainment joints and within walking distance of major attractions like the Austin Bats and Zilker Park, The W Austin puts you at the epicenter of the action. Its ultra-chic design may seem somewhat out of place in this funky city, but recent guests said that the guest rooms and amenities live up to the W's reputation. The hotel did infuse a hint of the city's "weird" culture into the decor: Rooms feature throw pillows with brightly stitched designs, offsetting the serene blue hues that envelop the space. Like Austin itself, the W Austin earns high praise from recent guests for its friendly, fun atmosphere, claiming that they felt extremely welcome here. And they're not the only ones: The hotel's Pets Are Welcome (P.A.W.) program makes sure that even the four-legged members of your party are well cared for. Because W Hotels are part of the Marriott hotel family, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn and use points here.

  • Everyone from Babe Ruth to Queen Elizabeth II has spent the night at The Adolphus, which was opened by beer tycoon Adolphus Busch in 1912. Close to the Neiman Marcus flagship store in Dallas' historic district, this hotel exudes elegance and charm and appeals to those looking for an old-timey yet still luxurious stay. The decor in the guest rooms is reminiscent of an English country estate, yet features flat-screen TVs, pillow-top mattresses and wet bars. However, the hotel's old-fashioned style doesn't sit well with every traveler: Some guests say The Adolphus feels a little shabby (and not in a chic way). But most visitors agree that the food served at The French Room restaurant is worth the rather high price tag, with some diners even saying that it's some of the best cuisine in the city. Plus, members of the Marriott Bonvoy program can earn and use points here.

When it's time to eat, chow down on contemporary American fare in The Lounge or have it delivered to your room. Recent guests say that this Houston property is a great bargain given its location and long list of freebies, but some visitors say that the hotel needs to work on its customer service, citing disorganized staff as its only downside. • Located about 14 miles north of downtown Dallas in Addison, Texas, this Marriott outpost offers easy access for sightseers and business travelers. Though the hotel's Addison address means travelers are a bit removed from the city's top tourist attractions, the property sits just minutes from the Galleria Dallas mall and is surrounded by a bevy of shops and restaurants. On-site, lodgers will find the Addison Grill, which serves eclectic, locally inspired cuisine, as well as a Starbucks. Other hotel facilities include a 24-hour fitness center and an outdoor pool. As far as accommodations go, guests say they found their lodgings to be clean, comfortable and spacious. Ranging from standard rooms to one-bedroom executive suites, all guest rooms include premium bedding and marble bathrooms as well as work desks, coffee makers, minifridges and flat-screen TVs. Although it's just 24 miles north of Dallas, The Westin Stonebriar Hotel & Golf Club could easily be worlds away. It's probably not the best lodging choice if you're in town to sightsee, but if you're looking to kick back, relax and practice your golf swing, previous visitors say that this is the place. Surrounding the resort are 18 Tom Fazio-designed fairways; though general greens fees are fairly steep, the resort offers unlimited golf after 2 p.m. for roughly half the price. If you're not a golfer, recent guests recommend spending some time by the pool or indulging in an in-room spa treatment. As far as the rooms go, recent visitors describe the decor as beautiful and compliment the Heavenly Beds. If you don't mind a slightly higher nightly rate, visitors recommend reserving a room with a full walk-out balcony. However, many guests cite issues with indifferent housekeeping staff, noting that the digs felt a little dingy. And though they praise the classic American fare served at The Legacy Grill and the light fare offered at the other on-site cafes and bars, some travelers wish that there were more dining options given the resort's somewhat remote location. And because this hotel is part of the Marriott hotel family, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn and use points here.
