The West Baden Springs Hotel is much more than just a place to stay overnight: It's also a National Historic Landmark, built in 1902. The hotel's domed atrium spreads across 200 feet, leaving some to nickname it the Eighth Wonder of the World. Along with the 243 rooms and suites that overlook the larger French Lick Resort complex's opulent atrium, there are also a spa and the upscale Sinclair's Restaurant, as well as two casual eateries. Guests express awe over West Baden's appearance and other luxurious extras like access to golf courses and retail shops, plus a bowling alley, two pools, stables and a fitness center – the latter of which hosts classes. However, a few warn that room rates here are pricey. To cut costs, I Prefer Hotel Rewards members can redeem reward certificates during their stays. You'll find this Preferred property in southern Indiana, less than 2 miles from the French Lick Springs Hotel and about 100 miles south of Indianapolis.

This resort and casino hotel is situated in southern Indiana, cuddling into a corner of the Hoosier National Forest, and is about 100 miles south of Indianapolis. There are several golf courses, a 27,000-square-foot a spa, multiple pools, a bowling alley and a 51,000-square-foot casino on the grounds. If that's not enough to keep guests busy, the French Lick Springs Resort, which also includes sister property West Baden Springs Hotel, also puts on concerts and offers hiking and biking along the nearby Buffalo Trace Trail. Still, some say the nicest thing about the resort is its peaceful milieu. Recent guests were also happy with the updated rooms (equipped with flat-screen TVs and 720-thread-count sheets), the elegant lobby and the on-site shops and restaurants. Others were interested to learn about the history of the hotel; it was originally built in 1845, with the spa wing added in 1901.
