    Baccarat Hotel New York
    New York, NY

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 555 reviewsTripAdvisor (555)

Baccarat Hotel takes the age-old style rivalry between New York and Paris and turns it on its head. Instead of declaring a winner, the hotel marries the cities' renowned aesthetics together, creating a grandeur that delights guests. Walk into any one of the 114 accommodations and you'll find it decorated in a minimalist white color palette with sleek wooden four-poster beds, marble-topped nightstands and cashmere throws. Grab a drink at the crystal chandelier-clad bar and you'll be transported to 1920s-era Paris, or get your blood pumping at the fitness center. Whether your preference is old or new, this hotel knows how to do luxury. Along with an indoor pool and gourmet French cuisine, guests can enjoy a chauffeured joy ride anywhere within 15 blocks of the hotel in the property's house car. The hotel is also home to the Spa de La Mer, which as its name suggests, utilizes the expensive French brand in all of its treatments. But what guests love most is the location: The hotel is four blocks north of Rockefeller Center and five blocks south of Central Park, plus the Museum of Modern Art is across the street.

    The Dominick Hotel
    New York, NY
    1.9 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3402 reviewsTripAdvisor (3402)
The Dominick Hotel is all about customer service. Many recent guests say the staff at this property will stop at nothing to serve visitors, whether that means ordering signature stationery or offering room upgrades. And speaking of which, the hotel's 391 rooms aren't too shabby either. With art deco decor, floor-to-ceiling windows and deep soaking tubs, many travelers are hard-pressed to find a reason to leave. Though some guests did lament the missing bathroom door in some accommodation options, noting the hotel's style choice was not very practical. The hotel is also home to a spa and a few dining options, including Mezzanine for elegant American fare. Plus, right outside the hotel's doors is the eclectic SoHo neighborhood, filled with trendy boutiques and art galleries.

Recent guests raved about The Michelangelo's prime location, set within walking distance of major attractions like Times Square and Fifth Avenue. And although most of the hotel's rooms and suites are pretty spacious (for New York City, anyway), many previous visitors agreed that you should book a room with a view since those without one can feel a little drab. Still, travelers praise the accommodations for their extra touches like marble bathrooms, Bose Wave sound systems and stocked minibars. Another perk: The Michelangelo offers complimentary shuttle service between the hotel and Wall Street from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. After a long day, you can unwind at the casual hotel lounge, which earns props from previous patrons for its tasty Italian fare.

According to recent visitors, this fashionable boutique hotel is, as its name suggests, right on the mark. Located on the Upper East Side, one block from Central Park and Fifth Avenue, this European-style retreat places visitors in an enviable location, with easy access to iconic city landmarks and shopping streets. The decor is reminiscent of 1930s Paris, with a calming beige color palette and marble trimmings. But keep in mind, there are modern accouterments here, too, such as HD televisions, complimentary Wi-Fi and a panel that controls lighting, temperature and the room shades. The elegance extends to the stylish Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges, which boasts delectable French fare. In addition to the impeccable cuisine, the gracious staff also earns a nod of approval from recent guests. Most travelers agree: If you're looking for a charming Manhattan oasis, this first-rate hotel is well worth the splurge.

Built in 1874, The Garden City Hotel exudes an Old World glamour that many recent visitors (and particularly brides) love. Elegant white marble encases the lobby, while a rich color palette of golds, reds and browns maintains a sophisticated atmosphere. Plus, the hotel underwent a renovation in 2014 that completely gutted and refurbished all the rooms, as well as the spa, salon and pool areas. Visitors say the new decor and furnishings are impressive, praising the comfortable beds with pillow-top mattresses and amenities like Keurig coffee makers, 42-inch flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi access. And travelers are equally as impressed with the gracious front desk and concierge staff, who they say go above and beyond to provide attentive and pleasant service. At The Kitano Hotel New York, a luxury boutique hotel, guests are greeted with a complimentary cup of green tea at check-in. You can also sip some tea in the Hakubai restaurant, but that's not all this stylish hotel has going for it. The accommodations are appointed with extravagant touches like down comforters, pillow-top mattresses, deep soaking tubs and marble bathrooms. Recent guests liked that the rooms are slightly larger than the average New York City hotel room. And should you decide to stray from your digs, you'll have a handful of world-class restaurants and boutiques within walking distance, thanks to The Kitano's Murray Hill location.

    NoMo SoHo
    New York, NY
    2.2 miles to city center
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 1454 reviewsTripAdvisor (1454)
The first thing guests notice about NoMo SoHo in New York City is its decor. Visitors describe the entire property as gorgeous, trendy, inviting and lively. The 236 rooms are furnished with a mix of crisp white fabrics, vibrant vintage patterns and 10-foot floor-to-ceiling windows. Other amenities include 300-thread-count sheets, down comforters, minibars, iPod docking stations and complimentary Wi-Fi access. While some found the rooms to be small – even by New York City standards – recent guests described the accommodations as cozy and well-appointed. The structural beauty extends into the on-site restaurant, NoMo Kitchen. Visitors say the contemporary American cuisine is tasty and the space is popular among locals and travelers like, but some suggest venturing into the fashionable SoHo neighborhood to find better eats. Guests can also work up a sweat at the 24-hour fitness center, take advantage of personal shopping and discounts as part of the NoMo Shopping Collective or venture a few blocks west for spa treatments at the Aire Ancient Baths. Recent guests reported pleasurable interactions with staff, but disliked the high upcharges for coffee and bottled water.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 758 reviewsTripAdvisor (758)

Situated on the border between the Meatpacking District and Chelsea, The Maritime Hotel adds a nautical feel to the New York City hospitality industry. The quirky decor means your digs will feature a porthole-like window and dark wood accents that resemble a ship's interior; however, many warn that the dark furnishings and small windows make The Maritime feel a bit dim. And 24-hour room service tastes better when eaten amid custom linens and goose-feather duvets. When you're in the mood for a full meal, head downstairs to Tao Downtown, which offers Pan-Asian eats and a nightclub atmosphere. Or, sit down for a bite to eat at the Italian eatery La Sirena. Overall, guests feel that the hotel's location is excellent (an easy walk to the 14th Street-Eighth Avenue subway station) and the rooms are a cozy yet comfortable size.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 8055 reviewsTripAdvisor (8055)
With its spectacular views overlooking Central Park, Park Lane Hotel - A Central Park Hotel dazzles visitors with its superb location and sophisticated ambiance. But that's not all recent guests are raving about. Most previous visitors cited the sumptuous accommodations, appointed with pillow-top mattresses, work desks, sleek flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi access (which is covered by the property's daily $35.93 facilities fee) as a major draw of bedding down here. Plus, recent travelers highly praise the property's ample amenities, including its fitness center, business center and two sit-down eateries (The Park Room Restaurant and Harry's New York Bar & Grill). Although most past visitors expressed delight with their experience, a few bemoaned the lackluster customer service and outdated room furnishings. Still, previous guests cited the hotel's prime address as a compelling reason to return.
