    La Valencia Hotel and Spa
    La Jolla, CA
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1340 reviewsTripAdvisor (1340)
Towering atop La Jolla Cove and staring down at the bright blue of the Pacific Ocean, La Valencia Hotel and Spa is all about location. And yet, the Mediterranean-style hotel also receives praise from recent guests for the cuisine served in its two main restaurants – Café La Rue and THE MED – and the friendly service provided by hotel staff. Known as "The Pink Lady of La Jolla" because of its rosy exterior, this hotel houses uniquely styled guest rooms. No matter which room you end up in, you'll find amenities like plasma TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi access, Keurig coffee makers and minibars. For an ocean view, be prepared to shell out a pretty penny. But if you're willing to look out onto La Jolla's little city, you'll save some bucks.

Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa
    La Jolla, CA
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1670 reviewsTripAdvisor (1670)
The Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa can easily be judged by its cover: The hacienda-style property sits on 10 acres of well-manicured gardens. The hotel's 210 rooms keep up luxury appearances, boasting Turkish cotton linens and private furnished balconies. Recent travelers describe this La Jolla hotel as "stunning" and praised the in-house spa for its long list of treatments and additional facilities, such as the Eucalyptus steam room and the outdoor saltwater whirlpool. Mustangs & Burros treats diners to savory Southwestern cuisine, and the Trinitas Cellars Wine Bar makes a great spot for an evening drink. The hotel is a 15-mile drive northwest of downtown San Diego, so it may not be the best choice for sightseers.

    Grande Colonial
    La Jolla, CA
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 2049 reviewsTripAdvisor (2049)
Though it might be the one of the oldest hotels in La Jolla, The Grande Colonial Hotel hides its age well. Guests describe the accommodations here as immaculate, as they are decorated in blues and yellows and equipped with down bedding and modern amenities such as LCD televisions, free Wi-Fi access and Keurig coffee makers. The property also includes an outdoor pool, and the on-site restaurant, NINE-TEN Restaurant & Bar, receives rave reviews for its farm-to-table cuisine. But according to recent visitors, it was The Grande Colonial's charm that convinced them to return in the future. Guests say that the customer service here was fantastic, and the ambiance felt relaxed, comfortable and unique. You'll find The Grande Colonial Hotel on Prospect Street, just a few blocks from the shore and about 13 miles north of San Diego. Beware that you'll have to shell out for parking, though, if you bring your own vehicle.

    Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines
    La Jolla, CA
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 1809 reviewsTripAdvisor (1809)
This hotel near Torrey Pines State Reserve offers all the amenities you'd expect in a Hilton, including flat-screen TVs, Hilton Serenity beds and high-speed internet access (for an extra fee). But guests reserve the most praise for the hotel's proximity to the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Guests can enjoy views from the rooms, most of which put the golf course and the Pacific Ocean in plain sight. The hotel also earns praise for its expansive outdoor pool and its three in-house restaurants. However, some guests complain that parking on hotel premises can be a headache: The garage can fill up quickly, and even if you can get a spot, it'll cost you $30 to $35 per night. However, members of the Hilton Honors rewards program can use rewards to cover some nightly expenses.

  • San Diego's trendy, beachfront La Jolla neighborhood is a great setting for a Curio outpost – the branch of the Hilton brand is known for its stylish properties and Hotel La Jolla is no different. This hotel earns high praise for its nature-inspired decor, complete with a beige and brown color palate, wood furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows. Guest rooms here come with flat-screen TVs, coffee makers and furnished balconies or patios. When you're not enjoying the La Jolla shoreline, take a dip in the hotel's outdoor pool – just be careful when walking around the pool area, as some guests note that the tiles can get pretty slippery. The hotel also boasts a 24-hour fitness center and transportation within a mile of the property. And the on-site restaurant, Cusp, treats diners to savory Mediterranean fare. Members of the Hilton Honors loyalty program can earn or redeem points for choosing to bed down here.
