Grand Isle Resort & Spa overlooks Emerald Bay from the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas. Situated along a mile-long stretch of sand, this modern boutique resort is popular with honeymooning couples and guests seeking a relaxing, quiet getaway, thanks in part to its specialty offerings like couples spa treatments and private oceanfront dinners. In fact, the romantic retreat was featured on season 20 of the reality TV show "The Bachelor." But if you're traveling with little ones, don't fret: This waterfront oasis offers kid-friendly amenities, too, including free supervised children's activities, high chairs and an infinity-edge pool. For food, there's the Caribbean-focused Palapa Grill, which offers daily themed dinners like barbecue dishes on Thursdays and Italian fare on Saturdays. Though past diners said the restaurant's food was tasty, some felt meals were overpriced and bemoaned having to book reservations for dinner. If you forgot to make a reservation or want to save some money, each villa and penthouse (which can be paid for with an I Prefer Hotel Rewards certificate) has a kitchen for cooking. The one- to four-bedroom spaces also feature marble bathrooms, private patios or balconies, free Wi-Fi access and washers and dryers.

Located about 50 miles northeast of Nassau on the secluded island of Eleuthera, The Cove, Eleuthera boasts 55 guest rooms, suites and villas nestled on a white sand beach. Rooms feature 500-thread-count linens, minifridges, Nespresso machines and flat-screen TVs. All accommodations are steps away from The Cove, Eleuthera's oceanfront infinity pool and on-site eateries. Whether you're lounging on the beach or snorkeling in the cerulean waters, The Cove offers a variety of ways to keep busy while on vacation. You can also arrange island tours, yacht charters and other recreational activities through the resort (at an additional cost). Despite the property's plethora of outdoor pursuits, some past visitors bemoaned the lack of on-site evening entertainment. Others cited poor housekeeping services and warned that meals served in the resort's two dining venues are pricey.

As a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, the Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant offers a unique experience, distinguished from its Nassau counterparts. This 18th-century colonial mansion comprises only 20 antique-filled rooms, each differentiated by historic names instead of room numbers. Despite its old-world decor, rooms do come with 21st-century amenities, including complimentary Wi-Fi access and cable TVs. To get a taste of the Graycliff's far-reaching heritage, opt to bed down in the Pool Cottage, where Winston Churchill once slept. Though the rooms may not appeal to all visitors, recent guests said this property is best for history lovers who appreciate the hotel's ancestral commitment. The Graycliff also boasts two on-site pools and a five-star restaurant of the same name. What's even more unique is that the hotel offers cigar-rolling lessons and tastings at its own cigar company, plus certified organic chocolates from the on-site Graycliff Chocolatier.

Located on sunny Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas, French Leave Resort, Autograph Collection features 20 private Bahamian villas with views of Governor's Harbour. Accommodations come equipped with the comforts of home, including amenities ranging from coffee makers to refrigerators to stoves (with pots and pans), depending on the room you choose. All villas provide free Wi-Fi access. Outside of their digs, guests can soak in the hot tub or take a dip in the outdoor pool. A $50 daily resort fee includes kayak rentals, snorkeling and golf cart use. When it's time to dine, travelers have only one on-site option: 1648 – An Island Restaurant. Though some recent guests noted the venue could become crowded and service could be slow, most said the fresh seafood and locally grown produce made for an outstanding for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Parking at the resort is complimentary; if you aren't renting a car, keep in mind that the property does not provide airport transportation. Found in the Bahamas' historic West End village on the western tip of Grand Bahama Island, Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour offers a secluded, less tourist-focused hideaway. But recent guests said this quiet isolation comes at a cost: The nearest restaurants and attractions are located in Freeport – a roughly 30-mile trek southeast of the resort. The distance from Freeport's eateries can be especially difficult since Old Bahama Bay houses only one restaurant. However, the resort does offer plenty of activities. Because of its marina location, fishermen can easily cast a line, swimmers can splash around in the 4,000-square-foot infinity pool, and beachcombers can scuba dive, snorkel or lounge on the sands. Plus, equipment like paddleboards, kayaks and bicycles are covered by the property's $20 daily resort fee. After a day in the sun, retire to your suite. Each features luxurious amenities like colonial-style artisan furnishings, a kitchenette, a bathtub and in-unit laundry machines.

Situated near Old Fort Bay, far removed from the mega resorts found in the eastern side of Nassau in the Bahamas, The Island House is favored by guests for its intimate atmosphere (it houses just 30 guest rooms) and luxurious amenities. The hotel focuses on wellness, offering extensive fitness facilities like a 24-hour gym, a yoga studio, a squash court and an 82-foot lap pool, as well as the highly rated Bamford Spa. The property's accommodations are equally praised. Visitors have their pick between garden-, pool- and marina-facing guest rooms and suites, as well as cottages with private porches and two- and three-bedroom apartments with full kitchens and 24-hour security. The hotel is also popular with travelers and locals alike for its 48-seat cinema that showcases fan favorites and newly released movies. When it's time to dine, guests can grab a bite to eat at one of two restaurants: the Asian-inspired Shima and the Mahogany House restaurant, which serves up Mediterranean fare. Recent visitors praised both eateries but especially enjoyed dining at Shima.
