Ashford Castle, which was originally built in 1228, is located in Cong, Ireland (roughly 25 miles northwest of Galway). Recent guests said that they felt like royalty during their stays, but they warned that even a few days of living like a king doesn't come cheap. A tourist attraction in its own right, the fully restored Ashford Castle sports an assortment of luxury amenities, including a 32-seat cinema, a state-of-the-art spa and complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the property. Visitors can also enjoy more historically significant activities, which range from exploring the castle's gardens to taking an introductory falconry course. Rooms and suites are all lavishly decorated with touches like fresh flowers, monogrammed bed linens and custom carpets. Digs are also decked out with more modern perks, including flat-screen TVs, Bluetooth speakers, electronic blinds and USB chargers. There are also multiple on-site restaurants for foodies to explore. The George V Dining Room provides upscale meals in an elegant dining room, and Cullen's at the Cottage serves local and international fare seasonally. Alternatively, guests can dig into Irish cuisine in The Dungeon, which features a curved stone ceiling and period-inspired decorations.

Ballyfin Demense is a world-renowned hotel, located within a castle-like structure in County Laois, Ireland. It was originally built in the 1820s for Sir Charles Coote. The estate's 614 acres are filled with wildlife, gardens, trails and picnic spots. Guests can participate in activities like tennis, boating, horseback riding, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, archery and falconry (some require an additional fee). On-site gardens, along with hens and bees, provide numerous ingredients for the restaurants, and other ingredients are locally sourced from nearby farmers and fishermen. The Cellar Bar has an extensive list of local whiskeys, and regular whiskey tastings are available. The 20 individually decorated guest rooms and suites feature period furniture, complimentary soft drink minibars, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi access, Egyptian cotton linens and free laundry services. For a truly memorable stay, reserve the Sir Charles Coote suite, which boasts 18th-century Chinese wallpaper panels, a separate sitting room, a fireplace and large windows with views of the grounds and lake. Recent guests described the hotel as excellent, especially raving about the white-glove service, palatial grounds and decor. While a stay here is not cheap, many past guests said the experience was more than worth it.

    • Free WiFi

According to recent travelers, Hayfield Manor feels like the set of "Downton Abbey." As you pull up to this property in southern Ireland, you'll notice foliage climbing along much of the three-story building's brick exterior. Inside, you'll find traditional manor house features like dark wood furniture, neutral color palettes and crown molding throughout the hotel's 88 accommodations. Though the property maintains design elements from its early 19th-century roots, it also embraces the needs of 21st-century guests: Each guest room and suite offers a variety of modern amenities, including a heated towel rack in the marble bathroom, a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi access and a voltage power converter. To work on your putting game before hitting the links (there are five golf courses within 15 miles of the property), practice with your in-room golf putters. When you're ready to explore the property, visit the on-site spa or enjoy afternoon tea or dinner in Orchids Restaurant. On select evenings, you can participate in wine tastings, which are paired with dishes chosen by Orchids Restaurant's executive chef. And once you've decided to venture off the property, you'll discover Ireland's famous Blarney Castle is located less than 6 miles northwest.
