Some say the Grand Hyatt's exceptional staff will make you feel right at home. However, your home probably doesn't have immaculately kept tropical grounds, a sand-bottomed lagoon pool or a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. This resort treats Kauai travelers to a relaxed getaway, with guest rooms outfitted with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines and private lanais (balconies). But you'll likely not be spending much time indoors, as the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort offers plenty in the way of island activities. On the property, you'll find several pools and lagoons worth laying by, as well as a variety of cultural performances taking place on any given day. Visitors enjoy indulging at the Anara Spa and teeing off on the gorgeous Po'ipu Bay Golf Course. And when it comes to dining, travelers say you really can't go wrong with the Grand Hyatt's restaurants, which serve up a variety of cuisines ranging from Hawaiian to Asian to Italian. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is along the south coast of Kauai, east of Po'ipu Beach. Members of the World of Hyatt rewards program can earn and redeem points here, which helps offset the pricey hotel's nightly room rates.

Sitting pretty on Kauai's southeastern coast near the popular Po'ipu Beach, this resort earns rave reviews from recent guests for its spacious studios and villas (studios start at 475 square feet). Rooms feature up to four bedrooms and include full kitchens or kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs and oversized balconies. Though lodgers praise the roomy accommodations, recent guests had some complaints when it came to housekeeping services. When you're not lounging in your digs, you'll find plenty of resort activities to keep you occupied, including volleyball, soccer and snorkeling. If you've got kids in tow, take your brood to the new 350,000-gallon Signature Lagoon Pool, which recently opened in the spring of 2017. For a more peaceful dip, head to the adults-only Tranquility Waterfall Pool. For more pampering, book an appointment at the spa or join in on complimentary yoga. And now that this sprawling resort is a member of the Marriott family, Marriot Bonvoy members can earn or redeem points by choosing to stay here.

Boasting the largest single-level outdoor pool in Hawaii, along with flowing fountains, lagoons and a prime stretch of beach, the Kaua'i Marriott Resort surrounds its visitors with plenty of water. Travelers say that the resort's grounds are impressive, and many describe the guest rooms here as comfortable. Accommodations at this Marriott property feature red- and orange-hued decor and amenities like flat-screen TVs and high-speed internet access (for a fee). Travelers highly recommend requesting a room with a balcony so that you can enjoy the resort's pleasant surroundings and excellent views. However, the Lihue Airport is only 2 miles north, meaning that the isolated resort tranquility can get quashed by the sound of a passing plane. So it's not the best place for a quiet, romantic vacation. Still, a stay here will grant you easy access Kalapaki Beach, not to mention the soothing Alexander Spa and Salon, 18 holes of championship golf and several restaurants. Members of the Marriott Bonvoy program can earn and use points here.

Visitors enjoy the Sheraton Kauai Resort's friendly personality, which is propagated by welcoming staff members, as well as family-friendly activities like ukulele lessons and lei making. Guest rooms here feature wood furnishings, flat-screen TVs, Internet access and private lanais (balconies). Although the hotel's 394 rooms and suites are spread out across multiple buildings, all lodgings offer easy access to the ocean and a hearty chunk of sandy beach (Po'ipu, to be exact). This Sheraton property earns praise from travelers for its scenic surroundings and its ample amenities. The resort boasts two swimming pools (guests say that the oceanfront pool is worth a swim), as well as a fitness center and the full-service Hawaiian Rainforest Spa. Also on the property is the fancy RumFire restaurant specializing in Hawaiian cuisine. For an exciting taste of the islands, the Sheraton invites you to attend the 'Auli'i Lu'au, held weekly. What's more, guests say this resort is a good bargain, especially if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member.

The spacious Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort is one of Kauai's best options for families. The resort hosts spacious suites that include one- or two-bedrooms, ample living space and full kitchens. According to many recent guests, the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort has all the comforts of home — with a few extras thrown in. Although you can certainly do your own cooking, you can also forgo dish duty in favor of a fresh seafood meal at the Oasis on the Beach restaurant. Meanwhile, the waterslides, lazy river and man-made beach are fun enough to draw you and your kids away from the beach. And the in-house Spa by the Sea offers a wide range of Hawaiian-inspired massages and body treatments. You should also note that the Outrigger's isolated location in Kapaa can be either refreshing or frustrating.

Removed from the more crowded resort areas, the Waimea Plantation Cottages are located on the southwestern side of Kauai. Modeled after the original sugar plantations that covered the island in the 1800s and early 1900s, Waimea offers 61 authentic plantation-style cottages that range from studio garden view duplexes to four- and five-bedroom oceanfront cottages. Each spacious accommodation is outfitted with Internet access, a flat-screen TV and a full kitchen with a host of appliances. Recent guests do warn that most cottages don't come equipped with central air conditioning, but said that the fans and window units worked well to keep the accommodations cool. While the plantation does not have a restaurant, the cottages do have full kitchens. Waimea offers a pool but not much else, which is why past visitors said it's the perfect place for those seeking little action and lots of R&R. Recent guests said they found the accommodations to be charming and clean, and the simple surroundings allowed them to take in the natural beauty of the area.
