Worst check in experience ever

May 12th, 2020

After a long drive, I wanted to stay at a familiar hotel. I made reservations over the phone because I had a dog along and wanted to make sure a pet friendly room was available. I made the reservation and showed up less that 10 minutes later to check in. " you're not wearing a mask!" "I have to kick you out, you're not wearing a mask!". I just talked to you less than 10 minutes ago, why didn't you mention it? "You have to leave!". I've been driving 12 hours, you've taken my credit card number, am I getting a refund?. "No, it's less than 24 hours" . "Leave or cover your face", so I pull my t shirt over my head and check in because I am tired. On the phone, she could have asked " are you from Pennsylvania? We are following the guidelines which require .... instead I was subjected to a hysterical woman with out an ounch of professionalism. There are 3 other cars in the lot. I think a bit of patience for someone from out of state could have been offered. DO NOT STAY HERE. If the can not handle an out of state guest checking in, what would happen if your shower didn't work, you plugged the toilet, you spilled coffee. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The "Rona" Trip

Apr 30th, 2020

I stayed in room #216 this past weekend during the "Rona Virus" mess. The only things that I can complain about is the fruit at breakfast that had went bad (was still being put out even after we said something) and the heating unit which makes this weird ticking noise the ENTIRE night. Other than that, the rate was absolutely amazing, the room was clean, we were content with the safety and will be back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Take a ‘Hard Pass’ on the 1863

Apr 18th, 2020

I’m at the conclusion of a two week roadtrip. My final night was in Gettysburg at the 1863. Disappointing way to end the trip: *Bedding: absolute worst quality bedding — sheets and pillows — of the entire trip. Even low level Best Westerns have far superior bedding. *AC/Heating Unit: again, the only place I’ve stayed in two weeks where the fan will not stay on all night as a type of white noise. ..which is desperately needed because: *Road noise: the 1863 sits directly on a busy, load road. Half of the rooms face the road, and you hear ever car that passes. When visiting the Gettysburg area, I would take a ‘hard pass’ on the 1863. Try Courtyard or perhaps the Best Western options. Highly Recommend

Mar 28th, 2020

My family and I stayed here last September (2019) and we were all pleasantly pleased with how beautiful and clean our rooms and the entire property were. The staff were also very helpful and accommodating with any questions we had. It is in close walking distance to many historic attractions which is why we planned our vacation in Gettysburg. We will definitely plan a trip back and stay here again. Crystal and family from Ontario Canada TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

On my way somewhere else

Mar 14th, 2020

I was gonna visit some family, amongst other things, when these relatives got together and decided they couldn't see me. This trip was planned out for a week, and I find this out from both of them after I had already left. No call; they texted me is what got me so pissed. So, I went to Gettysburg instead and checked-in here. Since I visit foreign countries and travel on airplanes (and visit Gettysburg for that matter), I guess my half-sister and cousin felt it would be too risky during these dark and troubling times for them to be around me (do I drool?). My cousin's normally sweet and great to be around but the other one... I've always had problems thinking of her as a sister. I always thought I was the problem - that I didn't think right. No, it's not me. Anyway, I decided to visit the battlefield and visitor center for the Battle of Gettysburg National Monument. Gettysburg is a great a little town to visit and has - I'm told - thirteen hundred monuments for the said battle that pepper the whole area. I'm sure I didn't see that many, but I did see a lot and they were pretty awesome. I mean I had an interest in a couple army units from back then one from Chicago and the other Syracuse, and I found the monuments for them. As for the town, nice little restaurants and shoppes also dot a beautiful downtown area. And this hotel was a nice refuge to get some needed sleep and calm down from my family's treachery. Super clean and well maintained, the bedding was fresh - I was quite happy with my room. Service was pretty awesome too. I remember this woman Brittany - I think that was her name - at the front desk. I'm not sure of the name though - she didn't have a business card so I think that's the problem. Anyway she was really kind, has great hair, and a good sense of humor. She could see I was stressing too, so I told it was over not having enough hand sanitizer for the impending epidemic. She joked around a little, gave me a couple extra squirts of the precious gel, and made me laugh and feel good. Funny how a kind stranger can help you feel better when you're feeling down because of your own family. Oh yea, I really like the location here - close to town, battlefield, cemetery, many stores and restaurants, and especially Reid's Winery and Cider House. I had a glass of cider there, relaxed, and didn't think about those two again for the rest of the night. It only took a couple minutes to stumble back to the room where had a great night sleep at the 1863 Inn of Gettysburg. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
