If you're looking for something more than a hotel, then the 21c Museum Hotel is your answer: As its name suggests, this boutique hotel is also a museum. Actually, it is the first museum in North America dedicated to showcasing solely 21st century artwork. Recent guests loved the cool decor that permeates the hotel and appreciated that the artwork was spread throughout the property and not secluded to one room. Facilities, however, are few and far between. The 21c only has a fitness center and free cruiser bikes, but with the fitness center's life-size superhero suspended from the ceiling and the miles of wooded trails that jut out from the hotel, guests can get in a workout in style. Accommodations are more subdued, decorated in primarily white and featuring splashes of colorful, artistic accents, including throw pillows with animal's faces and bedside lamps designed after tree bark. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi access and Nespresso coffee machines. Guests found the rooms to be comfortable and the staff to be friendly, but allotted the highest of praises to The Hive: the on-site restaurant that serves regional cuisine with a modern twist. You can find the 21c Museum Hotel two blocks from Bentonville's town square, about a three-hour drive northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas.

21C—with hotels already in Cincinnati and Louisville—grabs a piece of the action with this 104-room hotel in downtown Bentonville that's got contemporary-art galleries, The Hive (for "refined country cooking") and rental bicycles.

Art-minded boutique-hotel group 21C Museum Hotels puts its own adults-oriented spin on the Christmas holiday. Included in the "Holiday Package" are peppermint Malin + Goetz bath amenities, two hot chocolate cocktails spiked with bourbon, a plate of milk and cookies at turndown, "lump of coal" whiskey stones, and a reindeer art print from artist Simon Johan.

The town square is likely to become a focal point for out-of-town visitors, especially once the 104-room 21c Museum Hotel — an outpost of the original, in Louisville — opens in January 2013. The ground floor will include a gallery space of its own, with rotating exhibitions, as well as a restaurant and a boutique.
