Simply awful

Aug 3rd, 2020

I booked a 2-bedroom suite at what I thought was a deal, around $350/night. Check-in was seamless enough, although the massive 1970s-chic lobby was curiously empty. Got in the elevator, which looked as though it had seen better days, and got off at the 27th floor. Walking into the corridor was like walking into a scene from a horror movie. The walls were dark grey, with wall sconces placed at chest height shining dim light downwards. The carpet was worn and nasty and the smells of must and weed were prominent. As soon as I opened the door to the room I knew I could not stay there. The room smelled dank and the carpet was beyond gross, torn up with stains and ripples from water damage. The place was cooled by loud, poorly installed window air conditioning units. The decor was faded and a lamp from the Carter administration hung down in the middle of the living room area over nothing. At best, the furniture looked like it was purchased from a secondhand office supply store, thoroughly scuffed and askew. The bathrooms were straight out of 1952 with cracked tiles, caulked-over mildew, and stained sinks, toilets and tubs. The nicest thing about the room were the linens on the beds, but given the condition of the rest of the room, I feared what might lurk beneath. I called the front desk and they offered to find me another room, but the more I thought about it, even if they had found a room that was pristine, I did not want to stay at a place that would even contemplate putting a guest into a room like this. I asked for a refund, and thankfully they gave me on. I will say that the staff were very friendly and even apologetic, and I felt bad that they must have to apologize for the place they work for constantly. Lesson learned: if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. 0/5, stay far, far away. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best Hotel

Jul 23rd, 2020

The rooms were spacious, neat, and smells really fresh. I enjoyed the concierge service. I would go again with my girlfriend so we can do more flexing. I will defiantly come back again to stay for a week. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best hotel in NYC

Jul 13th, 2020

I have stayed at The Stewart over 50 times for 4 years and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in NYC. I have mostly been there on business but this week I stayed with my family. It is located right across from Penn(so you can get anywhere easily) and the rooms are extremely large rooms (much larger than many rooms in NYC). Most important, the staff has been incredibly accommodating. They even have notes in their system on exactly the type of room that I prefer. Ask for Andrew, Khan or Jenni. All of them will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. This is especially important now and they made me realize how much I missed this place. I will be back soon! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Awesome Girls Getaway

Jul 1st, 2020

Went out to New York City with some gal pals for the weekend. Jenny gave us the hookup we had a room with a view! A private balcony! Doesn’t get much better than that. She was super sweet and helpful. We had a terrific weekend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Definitely not a 4-star property

Apr 13th, 2020

I needed a place for one night with easy access to Penn Station (to get to EWR) and chose the Stewart. The lobby area was inviting with plenty of seating. However my room was old and tired and in need of basic upgrades like accessible USB ports. The only positive was the room size, which was spacious, but in no way did it feel like a 4 star property. My request for late checkout could not be accommodated (front desk personnel was hardly ‘service with a smile’) and I needed to have my luggage held for me, which worked out well. The porter brought my bag downstairs even before I asked (there’s an “up” escalator but not a “down “), which was appreciated. All in all I was glad that this was a one night booking. I’d recommend the Stewart only for its location. This is really a 3 star hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
