1920's Santa Fe Railroad Building Turned Trendy Hotel

Stayed here for two days for an event across the street in the convention center. A suite was perfect for the three of us. The hotel design was hipster meets 20's train station. We LOVED the exposed brick, duct work, high ceilings and interesting architecture. The rooms were super comfortable, quiet, had a great bar with pool table was fun, and a grab and go breakfast/snack station near the front desk was perfect for what we needed. Too cold for the pool but could have easily hung there over the summer. There was not a restaurant in the hotel and most places were half a mile a way. That doesn't work for some-- but we loved the walk or quick Uber ride to the center of the city. If you stayed in an Aloft in the past, you get the vibe. If you haven't and are expecting The W style hotel, you might be disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Physical Property and Location, POORLY run!

Sent this to Justin, the GM a WEEK ago and got NO response. Glad I spent the time drafting this.... Justin, I have to say, my experience at your hotel this past weekend left a LOT to be desired. I have stayed at your family of hotels probably 200+ nights in my life and these are the issues I had in just two nights. Shortly after checking in to our room (611) on Friday, we noticed a loud whistling sound coming from the vents.I called the front desk who sent a maintenance man up fairly quickly. After him spending about 15 minutes in the room, he stated that the repair was fairly major and needed an HVAC specialist. As we were about. To leave for a family event, rather than switch rooms, we just decided to have the ventilation turned off and get a new room Saturday. That was a bit of a mistake because the room was very cold Friday night. Saturday morning I went down to the front desk to inquire about getting a new room. The front desk “manager” ( a tall black man) told me that it would be 12:30-1:00pm before a room would be ready. Having family functions at that time I told him I would be back later to change rooms. Upon returning to the hotel at about 3pm I spoke with Dillon at the front desk and told him I was ready to switch rooms. He told me ‘oh, that offer was only for LAST night” and that “we are completely full’ tonight. I. Was somewhat taken aback by this as I had told th morning manager that I would be back to change rooms later. I told Dillon this and he went in the back for about 5 minutes while I waited. Miraculously he came back and said he in fact did have a room and that since I was “traveling alone” that the room he was offering with one bed would suffice. Puzzled that he knew or thought I was traveling on my own, I asked him how he know this!? He said someone told him. Very strange. Dillon then asked me to let him know as soon as I could when I was out of room 611 as he needed to “turn it” as quickly as possible. I was incredulous that he was intending on putting another unsuspecting guest in that room. So when I had moved myself to room 627 I did intend on calling down to the front desk and telling him, but the phone did not work! I did tell him that I was out about an hour later when I went to the front desk and also told him about the phone not working. When I check out today, the phone still did not work as he had not had maintenance come up to repair/replace it. I also had a very unpleasant experience with a member of the cleaning staff. I was in need of a laundry bag, one tout in the hall and saw one of the cleaning ladies. I said “excuse me” twice and she totally ignored me. Then as she was knocking at a room, I got closer to her and said “Excus eme, do you have a laundry bag?” She finally turned an acknowledged me and said “NO INGLESÉ”. I could not believe it. You have hired someone in the United States where the native language is English, and she doesn’t speak a Word of English? Come on man! Either she doesn’t speak a word of English and your employment requirements should necessitate that, or maybe she ws being coy and just told me that. Eighter way, all this did was alienate me and force me to go back down the the from desk and ask for a laundry bag. Speaking of the elevator, it clearly was not in working order as several guests and myself waited on the open elevator for probably 3-4 minutes with the elevator doing nothing. Several other guests mentioned that the experienced this on Friday. Dillon had to get on the elevator and use a key (for something ) to get the elevator to work. Lastly, I was never able to get the internet connection to work in neither room in spite of the fact that as previously mentioned I travel a lot and do not experience lack of internet connections like I did at your property. I was going to call technical support but the phone in the room did not work! I really look forward to hearing back from you about this very unfortunate series of events at your property. Could be better

I chose this hotel only because Aloft properties offer Camp Aloft, where they set up an inflatable mattress with a tent and some games for your kids. We have done this at other properties all over the world and it's always been a hit! Prior to arrival, I chatted with the hotel and they assured me that the room would be set up. We arrive at 7pm, and the check in agent has no idea what I am talking about. I show her the chat and she says it will be ready when we return from dinner. We return and they placed an inflatable mattress, folded up, in our room with no way to inflate it so it was unused. It was almost comical, why promise something if you can't deliver? Super disappointed and would not have chosen this property had I known that they will not follow through. As a Titanium member, I expected a lot more! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Warehouse/Prison Cell vibe is not for me!

I love staying at Marriott properties, but I have no idea what my husband was thinking when he booked Aloft. We were only in Dallas for two nights for a company Christmas party. I have never stayed at this particular Marriott brand, and I never will again. I’m not into staying at a hotel/hotel room that resembles a warehouse/prison cell. I was not impressed the moment we walked into the hotel lobby and I was equally unimpressed when we arrived to the room. I walked into this bare bones, industrial room that felt like a prison cell (concrete walls on both sides, pipes and air ducts exposed). The furnishings looked like they came from a local garage sale and the furniture, including the bed, was not comfortable. I figured it was only two nights, and I could deal it. I was mistaken. The next morning, the shower had a leak and the bathroom floor was all wet. I kept having to wipe water off the floor while I was trying to do my makeup and fix my hair. The room desk where I would be working all day was in a dark corner with a yellow light. I went downstairs and asked for the business lounge and was sent to the “Recline” room which was more suited for watching tv all day. After that, I called my husband and said find a new hotel. I’m outta here. Never again Aloft! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Quirky/ Fun Hotel with Logistical Setbacks

Exciting and spacious layout of a hotel as it is housed in a former warehouse, which allows for more space in rooms. Modern, Bright colors and lights are inviting and welcomes visitors to explore and lounge around in comfort in style. It does have a bar with happy hour! Unfortunate setbacks- when upon arrival from a "late" flight (11:30 pm), when we got to to the front desk we were informed that the Hotel overbooked and no longer had our [prepaid] reservation. I do not understand how this happens! They did offer another hotel location with that night's stay reimbursed and to secure a cab to get there, but after waiting over 20 min for a cab and it being 12:30 am, we ended up having to provide our own transportation (reimbursed upon request). Also of note- They have a kitchen (good selection) but do not provide Room Service. Recommend eating at Ellens for breakfast/lunch! 15 min walk if you're used to that lifestyle.
