Once a real-life castle

Apr 6th, 2020

The booking for a 2 night Tue – Wed stay was simple and easy, made so by the person on the end of the phone being able to offer assistance and advice. It is worth booking early to get the room you want and to ‘avoid’ those events that you don’t wish to ‘attend’ during your stay. This 19 bedroom 4 star hotel originally was a real-life castle built in 1103. It comes with 60 foot surrounding outer walls, massive arched entrance (complete with portcullis) and a moat (now a croquet lawn). Once inside the castle walls immaculate lawns and flowerbeds fill the centre, with the buildings that houses the hotel to your right. These stone buildings are covered in old vines and have windows like a church. Once inside the hotel the olde world ambience continues with beamed passageways, windy stairs up past a coat of armour, numerous cannons and other weapons. There are even 3 drawing rooms, all complete with roaring fires, to enjoy an afternoon tea or a gin. The actual reception was quick, easy and efficient and after we had been welcomed we were escorted to our room and had the hotel amenities explained on the way. Throughout our stay at the Hotel we found the staff gave a polite, knowledgeable, friendly and gave efficient service from beginning to end. Our room was located on the ground floor of the building within the castle walls. It was spacious, had a very luxury look with bags of character, windows that overlooking the moat, impressive driveway and the hills beyond. Art and attractive lighting gave it and the modern separate bathroom that wow-factor. Other welcome touches included robes, slippers and L'Occitane toiletries, homemade biscuits, mineral water and quality teas and coffees. Breakfast was taken in the restaurant area (up those windy stairs) and was a mixture of cold self-service buffet and made to order hot dishes. The cold buffet included yogurts, fruit juices and cereals, whilst the ordered hot breakfast (be it a full English or something else from the menu) was cooked to order and worth the wait. All in all a very enjoyable stay in an hotel that was ideal for a short getaway or break in a beautiful part of England and one that I have no hesitation in recommending and would use again. Amazing Experience

Apr 6th, 2020

Visited Amberley Castle with my wife for afternoon tea. On our arrival we found that parts of the grounds were flooded due to the recent rains but the gardens and castle still looked lovely in the afternoon sunshine. The car park was full but a member of staff took our keys and parked the car for us. The dining room was fairly busy with lunch time diners and others having afternoon tea as well. Our choice of tea was amazing with so many to choose from but in the end we stuck to English Breakfast. The food was well presented on a stand with savory dishes such as sausage rolls, quiche, assorted sandwiches etc. Then on to the sweet choice which was also excellent with a variety of different cakes and of course scones with strawberry conserve and clotted cream. All in all we were well looked after and had a lovely afternoon at Amberley Castle which we highly recommend TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
