Convenient budget motel

Looking out your window you would never believe this was “downtown” anywhere, let alone the 5th largest city in the US. But you are only about 6 blocks away, a 7 minute walk to the center of Phoenix, a real and growing downtown, the central stop for the city’s light rail line and a quick $2 trip to the airport. This is a well-maintained motel that won’t break your budget. The bed is comfortable. The bathroom is clean and in good condition, as is everything else here although not exactly modern. Wifi is good, the room has a good sized fridge and a microwave, the flat-screen TV has DirecTV including HBO. I never heard noise from my motel neighbors, but I did hear some outside noise and a surprising amount of traffic considering that it’s not near an interstate highway. There’s free breakfast in the morning: you can grab coffee and use the waffle machine near the front desk then eat in the outdoor patio next to the parking lot. There’s also a McDonald’s a couple of blocks away and you can walk to dozens of much better restaurants. There were only two quirky things here that I didn’t like. All the light bulbs have antique-style bulbs with no shades, so you are always trying not to stare at the glaring lights - even though the room itself could be brighter. And, the nightstands by the bed are boxy metal shelves which oddly attacked the magnets in my iPad cover and my watch charger. A little weird, but nothing that would keep me from staying here again. Needs better cleaning staff

Immediately after checkin, I took my shoes and socks off to rest my feet. One walk across the room and the bottoms of my feet were black. Floor wasn’t even washed for a new guest’s checkin. Linens were fine but floors-yuck TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Basically a motel with the BW label. Room is clean and thank goodness for linoleum faux timber flooring that looks like wood but is not wood. Breakfast comprise the BW brand of eggs, sausage(often too saltish) and fried potatoes. You have to bring your breakfast to your room to consume. My main complaint is the lighting is quite dim and is impossible for me to do some writing or reading. Other problem typical of many hotels is the hot water shower is difficult to calibrate - either too hot or too cold and it takes much effort to calibrate. Bathroom is too small for a 6 ft 6 person. Surestay hotel at the airport often sold out I guess for people want to be near to the airport. airport shuttle is a 'borrowed' vehicle from the agency that sends passengers back to the long term parking lot. Located minutes from Fairgrounds, right downtown. Comfortable beds. Plenty of hot water and fluffy towels. Good hot breakfast-eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, yogurt, muffins, etc. 24 hour coffee in office plus in-room coffee. The owners make you feel very welcome and can't do enough to ensure you enjoy your stay. They are the best! Motel is older but the owners have updated the rooms and it shows. Parking lot was full every night we were there so try to get back to your room early. Upstairs room may be quieter we had ground floor and it was fine but you do hear late arrivals. There is no elevator so you may need to request ground floor if stairs are a problem. We saw workers hand sweeping the parking lot in order to make sure everything looked as clean as possible. The receptionist at this hotel was very accommodating when we asked to change to an upstairs room. We were especially impressed at her thoughtfulness when she called to offer a ride into town since it was raining and we had planned to walk to dinner. The hotel is centrally located near many museums and eateries and a quick ride to the airport. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
