If you want to feel like a criminal, this place is for you.

Apr 18th, 2019

Never once in all of my time visiting this property was I searched, but this last stay will be my last. Funny, the only ones that were searched were women, because we carry purses. Maybe if a guy had a backpack, he was searched. I feel that is discriminatory, towards women. Men, in the meantime are not searched, and they are the biggest carrier of firearms, since Colorado has concealed carry, A resort fee for what, I would like to know. I guess, you have to make up for lost revenue some how. The Casino was a ghost town, food was sub par. I order biscuits and gravy at the Fireside Kitchen, and there was little or no sausage, in the gravy. The sausage looked like peppercorns, in the gravy. No way to order an egg on the side, not listed as an option on the menu. The Wayside Deli, was pretty horrible as well. Had the Beef Tacos, and the roast was tough. I don't know how you cooked it, but I might suggest a crock pot for cooking. My roasts are never tough when I use the crock pot for pulled beef. The room as decent, a little shop worn. The pool and the Hot tub are in need of better maintenance. The hot tub had a build up of foam, that should have been treated with the right chemicals. I was a competitive swimmer, and didn't even have the smell of being treated with Chlorine. The pool as well had the foam. Sorry not the property it once was. I will not be returning. 2 night stay

Apr 12th, 2019

Stayed for 2 nights so my husband could ski at Copper Mountain and not worry about me being bored. Rooms are nice. Casino is a good size. Had plenty to do alone. Plenty of slots. Pool looked good but didn’t utilize it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Problems since new management took over

Apr 10th, 2019

I will no longer return to this place. I was a regular and got comped food and rooms. Penn gaming recently purchased this casino and they have lost my business. In the past have rarely gone home a winner, but now it’s frustrating how much more tight the slots have become. They now search your purse before entering the casino. When I checked in and went into my room I was surprised to see someone’s wallet, cell phone, and car keys on the dresser! They checked us into an already occupied room. When I went to the front desk to inform them of their mistake not one sorry was muttered. The food is ok at the restaurants and buffet. The vip lounge has not changed, still great food and service. The last straw was when I tried to reserve a room for this coming weekend, they wanted to charge me $28.00 for a “resort fee”. I would like to thank ameristar for giving me the extra motivation to quit gambling. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

THE GOOD It;s a beautiful property. Probably the nicest I've seen in Black Hawk. It looks like something that wouldn't be out of place in some parts of Las Vegas. THE BAD I don't even know where to start. It was really that bad. SERVICE - The service all around was terrible. It took them over 6 hours to check us in. We checked in on a Sunday. Most people were leaving and not many were coming as the place was slow the next few days. They kept telling us an hour, an hour. After 6 hours and well past the check in time they finally got us a room. I really have no idea what the holdup was and they weren't very forthcoming with info. I don't think the front desk knew either. One person at the front desk was great, the others were miserable and it showed. The Ameristar has a large collection of folks who shouldn't be in the service industry. ROOM - All in all the room would of been fine but what turned me off was the collection of garbage in the halls. I took a picture of a dinner plate that was in the hall for over two days!! Over two days and not one person picked it up!!! I almost picked it up because it was disgusting to walk past with the food rotting on the plate. It wasn't just that there was garbage on the floor and stacks of linen piled high sitting on the floor in the hall. And not just for a few minutes but for days at a time. I couldn't wait to climb into my bed and cozy up to those filthy floor sheets!!! CASINO - It's almost comical how tight the casino was. The company that owns the Ameristar operates some of the tightest casinos in the country. Some states publish payout percentages by property and these folks are always close to or at the bottom of the list. I played for days (probably foolishly) without anything close to a decent win. I get it its luck and it wasn't my day but not one person around me won either. This is not so much a complaint - as the Ameristar didn't force me to gamble but just a heads up to those who might think about gaming here - be careful its tight!!! Head to Central City - the odds are much much better. RESTAURANTS - The steakhouse was just AWFUL!! I sent my steak back 3 times and they still didn't get it right. The couple next to us never ended up eating their dinner after 3 tries as well. The couple behind us traded plates because neither was as they ordered. Look, if you want to charge high end steakhouse prices at least get the basics right. Hire cooks that know the different between medium rare and well done. It really isn't crazy to ask for a proper temperature when you're clipping someone for $50 or $60 bucks for a slab of meat. Money I'd be glad to pay if I received what I ordered. It's just at this level you expect some things to be automatic. There's a basic restaurant on the 2nd floor by the valet entrance that isn't bad. We ended up eating here more than we wanted to due to a lack of decent options. Overall I think this place is poorly run and managed. It completely turned me off to Black Hawk as a whole. I think the whole town (or at least most of it) sold out to corporate interests and it shows. Overall a huge disappointment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Awesome Spa Suite

Apr 7th, 2019

The spa suite is literally twice the size of a regular room! A nice see-through fireplace (bedroom to living room); a spa tub with elec curtain in the bedroom, shower with extra body heads in the oversized bathroom; a bar area; and, a separate 1/2 bath. A definite treat! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
