Good location in a buzzy locale, nice facility, but the room was not well appointed

Jan 17th, 2020

The Tulum beach area is, well, a resort beach environment, though far more rustic than Cancun. Ana y Jose is right on the beach with thatched roofs and nice facilities, though one could hear the base throb of the speakers from the neighboring hotel up the beach most of the day. This would be a better review if our two rooms had been properly appointed. In both rooms, there were no indoor chairs or seating other than the beds (though large chairs on the patio), no drawers for clothing (though inconveniently accessible 'cubbies' under the nightstands), no hooks or bars for hand towels that had to be left in a pile that never dried rather than hung, etc. There was also confusion over which drinking water was provided free or charged for. The experience should have been better for a hotel this expensive and facilities this potentially good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Inconsiderate owners - I cannot recommend

Jan 13th, 2020

We paid a huge amount for 5 nights before Christmas and had the only sea view cottage. It’s a great location but the cottage next door was being renovated and that wasn’t pleasant withl all the builders junk outside. The rooms are tired and haven’t been refurnished, the towels like dish cloths. We had a loudspeaker right outside the bathroom window playing music all day to attract people to a largely empty restaurant. There is no door between the bathroom and bedroom so you hear it about 16 hours a day while in bed. The washbasin and shower don’t drain well- we had to call the engineer out to fix it. It worked marginally better. We didn’t have an6 hot water as the boiler was broken one day. On another day there was no water at all - all afternoon and evening so had to go out for dinner without showering. When I rang reception -Stefeni- I was told “ I was in the jungle” so not to expect things to be Okay. I was appalled as I thought I was in an expensive boutique hotel in Tulum. But the last straw was our last nigh5 before flying home. the owners had a party on the premises - we had to leave via a back door and come in the same way. They had LOUD disco music and flashing lights from 6pm to 2am and we just had to put up with it. Why sell rooms when you can’t provide a service? No apology from the owners and we are still waiting for a reply to our agents 3 weeks later. I think there are many other really lovely places to stay nearby. This place isn’t one of them (And don’t forget if something fails - you’re in the jungle” and on your own.) To cap it all - on registration they take a fixed fee for tips- Probably as they wouldn’t get them any other way. Don’t bother with this place - the owners have no respect for their clients. This hotel is in a beautiful setting. It’s thoughtfully laid out. The restaurant over looking the beach and the sun loungers were perfectly placed. However, if you didn’t stay on the beach all day long the hotel would rent out the spare loungers to non guests. We were a family of 4 and only ever allowed to take 2 loungers. The rooms were comfortable. The music form other places is loud but usually stopped by 10pm. That road is noisy and I was very pleased not to be at the back of the hotel. We were only given 2 complimentary medium bottles of water a day for a family of 4 which I think wasn’t enough. The breakfast was ok. We only ate on a few other occasions at the hotel. This was always extremely disappointing and very expensive. The most disappointing were the dinners. The special New Years meal was something we were all looking forward to. It was rushed and some of it was inedible. The food really does not match the rest of the hotel. The staff were ok, the kids were mostly ignored. But this was beautiful and we enjoyed the beach but found the whole area and hotel very expensive. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Poor. There are much better options in Tulum

Jan 9th, 2020

I am very surprised by the positive reviews by other guests. This hotel has very few redeeming features. But I will give it a go. The hotel is well situated and the beach is amazing (but you can say that of nearly all the hotels located on the strip). The rooms are adequate (although in need of an upgrade) and the air-conditioning works. That's about it. On the negative - the food is horrible. Even though breakfast is included in the room rate, we ate out nearly every morning. Our room was not properly cleaned and the staff is seriously grumpy. The hotel has a strange policy that you cannot charge anything to the room. You either have to give them money upfront on account or pay for everything as you go. I have never come across this before in a high-end hotel. You also need to check every bill carefully as I was doubled charged for items regularly. The real shame is that there are many other better options nearby. Given the amount of money we spent of the hotel, the whole experience was disappointing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ana y Jose Sophistication and World Class Hospitality

Dec 29th, 2019

I have been coming to Tulum for over 10 year and will always choose Ana y Jose to stay! It's sophisticated, authentic Tulum, welcoming and inviting and the place where discerning adults stay who really do know the best. The staff is impeccable, the rooms just lovely and with all the proper appointments for adults, the food and service some of the best in Tulum. They were one of the first in Tulum and have evolved to keep up with the hip, cool Tulum scene but still maintain an elegance and dignity for adults and families wanting a luxury get away where a "party" wont break out. At Ana y Jose you get to experience all that Tulum offers with a location where you get a great a VIP vacation and a good nights sleep!!! The setting is the best on the beach!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
