Very good, but not what you expect from Maldives
Jun 14th, 2020
Everything was very good: service, food, rooms etc. it depends what you expect to get in Maldives. As for me, the most exclusive thing you can face there is that intimacy and feeling like you’re the only one lost somewhere in Indian Ocean on a small bounty island. When you’re on a tiny piece of sand and there is nothing around: no other islands, no construction site, only transparent blue water, white sand and silence . So, in Anantara Veli you’ll not feel it. There are a few islands : one is their sister-hotel, another one is an island for staff, one more is a small island for snorkeling (there is only a bar) , another one is some special kind pf guests( you can’t go there) and another one I don’t know exactly. So, as you can imagine, a bit crowded as for Maldives)) Regarding sister -hotel: as you know, Anantara Veli is an adult only hotel (which is a crucial point for many people), when it’s sister hotel is not. There is a boat that transfers people from one hotel to another every 10 or smth minutes. They’re quite close to each other, but you have to go through the water. So, the thing is that people from a sister hotel can come to Anantara Veli with their children, what makes it not adult only anymore. I’ve been to Maldives in 2012 in a 4-star hotel and somehow it was a better experience regarding that feeling of being lost)) also it was incredibly quiet there: you could only hear the birds singing. Amazing! On Anantara Veli we had a villa with ocean view And I was a bit surprised, as the water was so rough there: waves and noise, no possibility to swim at all - very rocky and dangerous. Usually the island is surrounded by a coral reef, which protects it from waves , big fish etc. so, in pit case on one side of the island it was like this, but on the other( where were those ocean view villas ) it was different. So, to sum it up, I can’t say anything bad about Anantara Veli, but at the same time, it doesn’t have the most important and exclusive Maldives feature- you’ll feel more as somewhere on a big resort than abandoned on a small exotic island... I’m not attaching other photos, as I said before, everything was great there, except those moments, maybe for some people (like me) it would be crucial. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Anantara Veli – best holiday ever simply exceptional!

At Anantara resort you are warmly greeted by the staff clapping and playing drums as the boat arrives at the pontoon; this is the start of an amazing experience. The service is very professional and friendly; our wonderful host Hidha was very helpful in sorting out our meal reservations so we could experience the many different restaurants on both Anantara Veli and Dhigu islands; all the food was delicious with many a la carte options. We would like to say a special thank you to Shafi and his bar team who were so attentive and friendly making our evenings perfect. We stayed in a deluxe overwater bungalow which was very luxurious with a huge bathroom and a split-level outdoor terrace with steps leading down into the shallow crystal-clear lagoon underneath. The colourful marine life observed while snorkelling was incredible, our highlight was swimming alongside a turtle in our bay. Stingrays, manta rays and nurse sharks could often be spotted from the overwater walkways. Anantara Veli was absolutely amazing and exceeded our expectations in every way. It is paradise sitting on your own private terrace looking over to palm trees on the white sandy beaches and watching stunning sunsets. We will certainly visit this resort again and would highly recommend it to other travellers when travel permitted again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed here in February and it's was an amazing experience. When you arrive on Male airport you are taken to the hotel lounge where you are given refreshments while you wait for your speed boat transfer. The boat takes about 40 mins. The resort in stunning, just like all the postcards you see of the Maldives. We stayed a deluxe over water bungalow with private pool. The room was amazing, the colour of the sea was what you'd expect from the Maldives. We saw lots of fish, reef sharks and turtle swim past our villa. The food was amazing too. Our favourite was the Thai restaurant for dinner and lunch. Saying that the breakfasts were one of the best at any resort we've ever stayed at. They cater for all dietary requirements (my wife is vegan and she loved the variety of options). Service was 5 stars too and the wifi was great. Only slight criticism is that you had no choice but to pay for premium water brands at lunch and dinner at $8 a bottle, they didn’t offer you the cheaper local brands that you get free in your room. We stayed at another resort and at least you had the option to buy a local brand ($3 a bottle) Otherwise, this place is perfect. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
An unforgettable place! The staff is GREAT!

We booked our 15yr Anniversary Vacation (without kids) and my wife's birthday trip at Anantara Veli for two reasons. First, Anantara resorts came highly recommended by a family member that had stayed at an Anantara property in the past. Second, you have to be 18 years old to check-in, which means there are NO KIDS! Once we arrived at Male, we were met by the Anantara representative at the airport right after we had picked up our bags. (I feel bad that I did not get her name) We waited in an airconditioned lounge stocked with coffee, water, and snacks for the speedboat to take us to the island. The boat ride was comfortable (seas were not rough) and takes about 45 minutes. When we arrived at Veli, we were greeted by singing and music, making us feel extra special. We met Zahir, who would show us around the island and to our bungalow. If you are fortunate enough to have Zahir show you around Veli, you are in for a treat! He asked about our anniversary and my wife's birthday, confirming the dates. He made sure that everything was perfect for both days! (and all the other days!) Bokey, Chau, and Ammaday at 73 Degrees made sure that we always had hot coffee and a glass of fruit juice before we would come back with our food from the Breakfast Buffett! We both HIGHLY recommend Afi's Maldivian Crepes! They are the BEST Maldivian Crepes! We would ask her for three every morning to share between us! They are INCREDIBLE! Afi also introduced us to Mangostine, an amazing fruit that everyone should try! Rhazeem would always check up on us whenever he would see us walking about the island. Logu at Origami would always ask us if everything was as we expected and constantly kept reminding us that they were all there to make our vacation special. When they ran out of Coconut Macaroons at the Japanese buffet dinner, Logu made sure that some were made and delivered to our room the next day! Origami has the BEST Coconut Macaroons! Ismail was always greeting us with a smile whenever we would take the boat ride to and from Dhigu. He would make sure to let us know the best places to see the turtles and where to snorkel. Muaaz would always make sure that our room was perfect! We loved the writing with bits of palm fronds on the bed, Welcoming us, Wishing my wife a Happy Birthday, all touches that made our stay extra special! Ahmed in aquafanatics gives the best tips of where and when to go kayaking or snorkeling to get the best pictures! On the way back from snorkel island one morning, he insisted that we should go to take pictures of the hammock over the water in front of Sea.Fire.Salt restaurant right away because the conditions were perfect for taking pictures, and of course, he was right. These people are the ones that we remember, but by no means a complete list of everyone that went out of their way to make sure that our stay was an unforgettable one! If anyone is considering going, do it! You will never forget the time you spend at Anantara Veli! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The two islands (Anantara Veli and Anantara Dhigu) are adorable. The service is overwhelming, the food is fantastic, its privacy and peace is fabulous and you experience highest standard on luxury and immediately feel home! Enjoy TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
