Wonderful Hotel

Apr 21st, 2019

This hotel surpassed our expectations in every way. Matt at the front desk made us feel welcome from the minute we walked in the door and throughout our stay. The breakfast in the mornings was satisfying and the cheese and wine in the evening was a nice touch. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Delightfully Unique Hotel!

Apr 18th, 2019

We'd never been to Charleston so we did a good bit of research before reserving a room (suite) at the Ansonborough. Their room rates, while not cheap, are not the most expensive in the historic district, and although they're technically not located in the middle of the historic district, it's just a block or two away. The building itself was, I think, once the home of a ship captain, and it's an architectural delight. It's obviously an older building but in great shape. Three floors surround an open atrium-like area that stretches from the ground floor up through all three floors. Our suite was very roomy and comfortable. There's a delightful rooftop lounge-like area (no bar, just lounge chairs, tables and chairs) with a great view of the harbor and surrounding area. The wine and cheese Happy Hour was great -- if you go, load up a dish with snacks and take it and your wine up to the rooftop lounge. The staff are friendly and VERY helpful with good suggestions for specific tours, restaurants, etc. When we arrived after a long drive I suspect it was our well-frazzled look that prompted the woman at the reception desk to ask if there was anything else we needed. I told her I'd love a glass of wine and 5 minutes later she was handing it to me (well before the scheduled start of Happy Hour). One thing to be aware of -- one side of the building faces the harbor area (it's just across the street) and turned out to be noisy early one morning as they were doing whatever harbor-related work was going on. Overall, though, we'd love to go back to Charleston and stay at the Ansonborough! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Hotel

Apr 13th, 2019

This hotel has so much to offer. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. We visit here several times a year. It is a clean hotel. The happy hour has very good appetizers and they keep up with keeping the food hot and or cold. I highly recommend staying here for the experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice place

Apr 7th, 2019

If you are a fan of constant snacks in the form of warm cookies and hot and cold beverages as we are, then this is your place 😁. Seriously though, the rooms are cozy and clean and there is a nice rooftop area for relaxing. Just a note of caution: stay away from rooms on the E.Bay St side of the building unless traffic sounds don’t bother you. The Inn is in a nice area convenient to many restaurants and there is a 24 hr full supermarket across the street. Also it is in walking distance to the Charleston Market if shopping is your thing. By the way, try The Crab House for nice fresh seafood (we recommend the Carolina Platter). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Roof top deck was wonderful!

Apr 5th, 2019

I was impressed as soon as we walked in. Loved all the wood and paintings. The room was spacious and very clean. All the staff was very friendly. We went with friends but I did the booking and was very happy how much they loved the place too! There is a Harris Teeters right across the street so we would have beers to enjoy on the rooftop deck in between sightseeing. The wine and cheese was a nice touch and also brought that upstairs to the roof. So close to everything to be able to walk. I want to come back again next spring and I will book here!
