Let down by service - business travelers go elsewhere

The good - Location: close to nice dining options - Price: cheap - Concierge: friendly, helpful, proactive The bad: - Check-in: Accor gold benefits not recognised, needed prompting, and even then the response was not clearly articulated - FO staff clearly poorly trained on Accor loyalty program. To add insult to injury my non-status colleagues were provided free drink vouchers whereas I was not (even though no upgrades available). Later on I asked for one and was provided - but without any explanation / acknowledgement of the earlier failure - Room: got a disabled access room. The toilet/shower is all open plan like a budget 24/7 gym. Gross. It would have been nice to be given the option. - Checkout: this brought the review down from a 4 star to a 2 star. Most disinterested FO I've ever encountered. I asked about whether all showers layouts were like that - after some mumbling and further prompting by me I was told "I think they're different." I am spending 3 days a week in Melb for the next few months and wanted to ensure I got a room with a normal shower, but with that attitude I gave up. My room number was 1004, stay was 25-26 Feb in case the GM wants to investigate internally. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disgusting service

I was appalled at inaccurate check in and being called back to recheck in because I was checked in under the “wrong name” on check out I was appalled because my bags were lost and tagged under the “wrong name” TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Location, that's about it

Disappointing. I continue to come back to the hotel because of the location, but it's really hit and miss with the experience and is hard to justify paying the extra money. I've stayed here numerous times, including a 3 month stay many years ago, it was good back then...really good. I paid the extra for a Deluxe Suite this time around and ended up in a room on Level 1 with little to no view and a really awkward layout. I was left a bottle of wine & a welcome note, really appreciated but.. The usual appointments were absent, the desk lamp, desk chair, stack of art books all missing from this room. Empty spaces either side of the sofa where furniture once was, a sign of years gone by, a burn mark from an iron in the carpet next to the bed. The quality Evo toiletries I once used to take home replaced with another lackluster brand. I left a review when I logged in to the Wifi, which was about as far as I got. I was contacted by the front desk and moved to a room that was more 'typical' for my next night. The hotel unfortunately has a really tired feel to it, the rooms don't even smell fresh or feel clean anymore. Some basic maintenance wouldn't go astray, the room I was moved to had the bathroom door handle near falling off (a five minute fix). And a re-stretch on the carpet would make the ordinary condition of the carpet less obvious. The hotel once had a rock star feel and welcome to it, I used to want to come back. Now it feels like you've just overpaid for ordinary. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

LOVELY staff, great location

We usually stay in the CBD but stayed here due to location. A nice surprise, loved the area, so much walkable there, great restaurants, bars and shops. Our room was a bit on the tired side but I did read they are doing a refurb soon. The bed and pillows were extremely comfy and the shower was excellent, these are my main 2 criteria for a nice stay! For us the most outstanding thing was the staff and the courtesy they showed us. All staff greeted us on every turn, some even checked on us when we were waiting to friends outside to see if we needed a taxi or directions. At the beginning we asked for an iron, extra hangers etc and they were all issued quickly. The room was kept clean and nice little "smellies". TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

WHAT SERVICE

The hotel is in a great location and the hotel itself is great. With the exception of the food and beverage staff, the balance of the staff have the worst attitude of any hotel that i stayed at. Basic manners is great starting point in any interaction, something that was lacking across the whole front desk. Book elsewhere, it will be more pleasant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
