Horrible: warning scam

The worst experience I have ever had in a hostel. This was not due to the place (had a fine pool and semi-decent rooms), but to the owner Barbara. She was manipulative, tried to scam us and was frankly mean to us. The room that we booked was suddenly “cancelled” and we had to book a more expensive one (in cash of course). We got yelled at, got threatened to be kicked out for absolutely nothing and she hovered the grounds giving us evil stares. We did not feel welcome whatsoever; it ruined the beginning of our holidays. At saying our goodbyes she also threatened to sue us for slander if we wrote a negative review. Well, here you go. For everyone still looking for a place in Aruba; please check the other reviews; we very much regretted that we didn’t. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I have never left a negative review let alone a 1* review. I’ll start with a positive, the place was relatively clean ignoring the front yard full of maybe 6 dogs carrying a strong animal smell. I made my booking through a reliable online booking agent. The hotel reached out to myself and emailed several times to tell me my bank card wasn’t accepted and they cancelled my booking, I rebooked and the booking was accepted in hindsight I can’t help but feel they were trying to charge my card a large amount on the first booking. The hotel also reached out and offered a airport pick up for $35... my friend had an offer for $20. So obviously we went with the lower offer. Unbeknown to us this was per person so they expected a $40 fee for two each way... a airport taxi is $26... TAKE IT as the hostel ride offered no seatbelts, doors wouldn’t open, it was late (35 mins) and dirty. When we arrived after our “interesting” ride we asked how far to walk to the beach as it seemed the hostel was literally in the middle of a no where neighbourhood we were told 15 minutes.... 1 hour at a good pace would be accurate. So, we were let into the place by the owner who then wandered off on a phone call just leaving us waiting outside for another 50 minutes eventually returning with ONE form for two people and one key, asked for us to both sign on the same form and then again left. We weren’t shown to our room no rules, check in or out were explained. I say we weren’t shown to our room we weren’t even told which part of the building it was in so we were left to try every door with the mystery key. Turned out we didn’t need a key for the hostel room as the room or block wasn’t locked and the key was for the front gate. The room was absolutely sickeningly hot, realistically 43 degree, i understood from another hotel guest that the air-conditioning couldn’t be used throughout the day and just at night. We didn’t touch it dumped our stuff and made a quick change of clothes and fast escape for the afternoon and evening. The following day there were 3 people waiting to check out at 8:30 and the owner was no where to be seen check out is 8-10, such a small window and check in is 4-5! When it came to checking out I realised that I had been charged $94 from the $56 I had agreed through was explained as the airport pick up... I demanded a refund and explained that I never agreed to this and the owner spent around 30 minutes checking emails to look for the authorisation from me, it wasn’t found as I’d never agreed to this. She reluctantly refunded an amount of $37 I took the refund and wanted to run. This lady is terrifying, unapproachable and highly unprofessional. I also tried to rent a car in Aruba but I didn’t have an international credit card to offer just a debit (which is fine and nothing against any rental card company.) But this leads me to my next point, my friend was overcharged also and the hotel blamed myself for the over charge and explained to my friend that our friendship was not good and that I was trying to rob my friend. They explained I’d been using a card not meant for use in Aruba and so they’d charged my airport pick up fee to her also, again why should an airport pick up fee taken at the same time double in price. The card I used throughout my stay was a MasterCard debit card and was highly accepted at all places we visited. In hindsight I do genuinely believe the hostel had all intentions of trying to charge a large credit card fee to me and they would of created a painful excuse. Also they used WhatsApp to communicate with my friend and not an email thread, this is the most unprofessional use of the platform as the owner and someone I will receive as her assistant went on to slate me and my friendship. Overall the whole stay we were just fed lie after lie after lie. I could really go on even more about the disgusting service received but to be quite blunt after reading the responses on trip advisor from the hostel I’m saving myself a headache. I am just so so so grateful Aruba is beautiful because I genuinely think this would of been my worst stay ever with this disgustingly poorly ran establishment. UPDATE. Just checked my bank account and I was charged $94 refunded $37 and then recharged $20. Answers please. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

DONT EVER STAY HERE!!! AVOID Potential fraudulent activity

The place is Horrible Cat all over the place. you cannot put your AC on during the day. I've asked for a towel. i received a towel with cats poop and cats hair. She Gave us our deposit back then she charge our CC on file for supposedly things we damage that she checked before we left. She Got Illegal People form Venezuela working for her like slave. they need to work 24/7. DON"T EVER STAY HEREEE!!! She will come always with some BS Story to reply on this. check for your self the other bad reviews below. please AVOID STAYING HERE!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The place its comfortable. The best of all its the attetion of his personal, who always make you feel good and support you. You can cook in a tiny gas kitchen, but its okay if you wanna feel the really caribbean island culture. The food is cheap and you can buy it in few minutes freemarket called Harmony. The beach is like 30min far from the Hostal if you walk (a long road across the Xavier University, in St. Helenastraat) and maybe 3 hours to the Eagle Beach, but you can always get a taxi to arrive in less of 20min. Nice pool, nice people (Y) All depends of who you has as roomate if you share the room. Every morning the staff clean the bathroom and rooms, so its mildly clean. If you are a wanderlust and looking to have good days sharing with people. This is the right place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
