Overview

Complimentary snowshoe and bike rental
Daily $20 resort fee added to daily rate

Encompassing 40 acres of snowy space, Aspen Meadows is far from your typical ski resort. Rather than kitschy ski-lodge style, this massive resort boasts bright and modern decor. Expansive windows let a lot of light into the guest rooms, which are decked out in neutral hues (with pops of color here and there), kitchenettes, flat-panel TVs and complimentary high-speed Internet access. Private balconies and patios boast views of the Rockies; you can also enjoy the scenery from a poolside lounge chair or from the patios of the on-site Plato's and Meadows restaurants. Aside from the location and spacious rooms (starting at 500 square feet), recent guests say the superb customer service is the top reason to stay here.

Large, Bauhaus-style hotel set in 40 acres of meadows in the historic west end of Aspen.

Bauhaus designs are hardly what you expect high in the Rockies. Yet in 1953 Austrian émigré Herbert Bayer — a former director of printing and advertising at the legendary German school — completed the first of his many buildings for the campus of the Aspen Institute. Today parts of the campus also serve as a glorious hotel. Its 98 spacious suites (where such distinguished guests as Bill Gates and the Dalai Lama have slept) are furnished with vintage Bertoia chairs and Breuer occasional tables, and they offer stunning views in all.
