SCAM: took money off of our creditcard DAYS after we left and did not even SLEEP in the hotel!

Aug 3rd, 2019

My family and I were staying at the Inn at Pearl Street as part of our road trip. Upon arrival, the lady at the reception was very rude and unprofessional. Once she was done helping another guest, my dad asked where he could find the restroom and as he did so the lady at the reception picked up the phone and handled something else. Then, our reservation was not included in the system, and after showing the confirmation (we payed in advance) she still acted as if we were stupid and did not pay beforehand, which is obviously not the case. She also ‘kindly informed’ us that we had to pay an additional fee for two persons (i.e. $75 PER PERSON in addition to what we paid whilst making the reservation) since we were with 4 persons and ‘all of the rooms are made for 2 people’. Maybe next time mention on your website that you are NOT family friendly?? This hotel is a scam, because on it showed that the room was for 4 people and so we booked and thus paid a price for 4 people but the Inn at Pearl Street is hungry for your money. The lady (Jessica) then let us sit in the living room to wait for our room to get ready and offered us drinks, which we thought was a kind gesture for all the fuss while in reality this hotel offeres the first drink for free while your next drinks will be $5 per drink. We have stayed at many other B&B’s/boutique hotels in the past where we could get as many drinks (water is essential in Texas during the summer) as we wanted and where the owners/staff would actually show interest in their guests and be very passionate in offering great service. However, at the Inn at Pearl Street they offer you one drink and then you won’t see anyone again. The reception lady also let us wait for a long time for our drinks and was continuously walking past us whilst making a phone call which was very annoying and rude. It was almost as if she was very annoyed by our presence which apparently happened to other people too when I read some of the reviews. When we entered the room, we realized that the price that we paid for this hotel (this was our most expensive hotel and we booked for only one night..) was NOT in proportion with what we were being confronted with. First, our room (the treehouse) did not look like ‘the rest’ of the hotel. Instead of a beautiful, cosy room, it almost looked as if we were in a plain, musty lodge during a camping trip. Second, our room had a thermostat which did not only regulate our room, but also that of our neighbours. This means that our neighbours could not regulate their own tenperature in their room. The hotel informs you about this with a random paper where they wrote it with a marker. Same as how they write “do not flush other objects in the toilet” in a restroom at a gas station. Not very classy. Third, the tv had duct tape on it in order to keep it in place on the wall. Also not very classy. Fourth, the wifi in the room did not work at all. Fifth, the bathroom was very small. Sixth, the bed was very uncomfortable and cheap looking by judging the mattress and the look of the headboard. During the night, my family and I were so fed up by this hotel and the arrogant and rude manner in which we were welcomed that we decided to hand in the keys and drive to another hotel. We then decided to leave the situation as it is since all we want is to enjoy our holiday. However, today, a couple of days AFTER we left, we realized that the hotel took money off of our creditcardz This is not only very unfortunate, but it is extremely disrespectful, misleading and unjustified to do so days after we leave, especially since we did not even stay in the room for the whole night and after checking in we were not present since we headed into downtown Austin. On another note: the hotel also wants you to book directly through them and not via a third party. I can imagine that every hotel wants this, but for a hotel to specifially mention this to their guests once again shows that they care more about your money than about your experience at the hotel. We called (where we booked this hotel) and notified them of this. Conclusion: for (almost) the same price, I would suggest you to book a luxurious five-star hotel in downtown Austin. Or any other 3/4 star hotel from any hotel chain, where the service is much better. Please, STAY AWAY from this hotel! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sweet service at sweet Hotel

We were lucky enough to stay when André was working and from the moment we stepped onto the beautiful property it was a positive experience. Very thoughtful and considerate service. We stayed in the European room and it was everything we hoped it would be. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great room... but the ceiling fan made the balcony our retreat!

Jun 29th, 2019

Before our stay with the great staff and guests of Austin's Inn at Pearl Street, if you told me I'd be staying outside on a balcony most of the day and night at the end of June in south Texas, I would not have believed you. My wife is a residential designer. She was delighted with the grounds, architecture, decor, art, furniture and ambiance. I'm just a guy and I thought the place was cool! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Ultimate Kitshiness

Jun 28th, 2019

Austin's Inn at Pearl Street We stayed two nights. Breakfast is at 8 but we had to leave earlier to go on a tour of the LBJ ranch and Texas White House. So we had to go across the street to eat. There was no offer to provide a sack of food. Breakfast the second morning was no big deal as there was nothing hot provided. Our major complaint was a lack of temperature control. Our house had the controls outside our apartment, and apparently the other residence turned the control to 71 after I had set it to 73. The cold air blows directly on my head while in bed. Very uncomfortable night. I didn’t have that problem the next night as no one changed my setting. The shower is in the bath tub and requires a step up, then a perilous step downward into the deep tub. Be careful! The hostess was seemed to rush instructions when we checked in. She was professional but lacked warmth and her delivering was harsh. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Non-traditional and something to remember

Jun 17th, 2019

This hotel is really quite something. Friendly staff, excellent decor, cozyness and a 'back to the future' spirit all around. I was there on weekdays, attending a course in AT&T Conference Center, and it works fine for that purpose. But I can also see it as a really cool destination for couples for a exotic weekend or short stayover. For someone wanting a traditional room, sterilized reception, everything-as-usual, this hotel might be slightly uncomfortable. But for someone enjoying looking outside of the box, this hotel is a jackpot. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
