Questions About The Best Rooms

Jan 8th, 2021

We were at this resort years ago and will be there March 2021. We are looking for advice on the following: which part of the resort has the most updates rooms, which section of the resort (bank of rooms) would you recommend that is closest to the beach and away from noise? Any other comments or suggestions are welcome. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort

Jan 4th, 2021

The beautiful clean beach, those amazing palms, the relaxing and clean pools, how wonderful the Barcy club ladies -Sara and Cinthia were with our girls, the employees were astoundingly patient and respectful, we loved the amenities this resort has to offer. However, here is a review you want to read. My family and I just spent 11 days at the Barceló Maya resort. We spent Christmas and New Years here. My brother and his wife also joined us, they have been to this resort and the one in DR many times; while this was our first time trying the Barcelo. We always go to the Riu, but decided to try this resort. We loved the amenities this resort has to offer, but are disappointed with SEVERAL things. They cater way to much to US Americans. We saw several of them disrespecting the workers because of their “lack of English language understanding”. We were furious to see their entitlement even in a country that is not THEIR home. We saw ladies getting mad because their coffee wasn’t ready right when they asked, some got upset because workers couldn’t understand their accent or words, the hotel tried to follow COVID distancing and some Americans were not respectful of that. A family with about 4 teen girls were upset because they were not allowed at the SPA to get some hydro therapy or whatever it was without an adult; the mom had the audacity to tell the worker “my girls can drive, they have cars, they are old enough!”No lady, they aren’t, driving doesn’t mean they are older than 18! The worker was following the rules. These people didn’t take the time to see how overwhelmed and overworked these workers were. It was embarrassing for some other Americans to see their fellow citizens acting this way, some even apologized. However, what was more disappointing was that the supervisors didn’t ask the customers to be more respectful, I never saw any of them intervene and ask the disrespectful Americans to calm down or leave the place they were at. The managers NEVER stood up for their workers! Some of these Americans treat Mexicans like 💩 here in the US and over there as well! We were also dissatisfied with the NYE show. It was a show like the ones they show here in the US. It was simple and boring. The dancers and band were amazing, but the choice of music was 100% catered to US people. Jazz, American songs, etc. They didn’t show Mexican or Latin culture at all. Where was the happy and lively music at? The merengue, salsa, bachata, tango, musica Tropicana and even house/ dance music? Even the Russians complained after the NYE show! Then, the food. What the he** happened to the delicious Mexican food- con savor a comida latina?! It was simple and zero seasoning. When we asked why it didn’t have the typical Mexican or Latin flavor we got told “the Americans get sick!” Really?! What the ****?!! Who cares! Go to Dubai, DR, Italy, France, you name it- NOBODY changes their food for “Americans”. Why does the Barceló change and cater to them so much? Simon and his family aren’t US Americans 😡. So our suggestion to them is, do not change what and who the Barceló represents. They represent the Latin culture, especially if they are in a Latin country. Show the beautiful dancing that the Latin culture has, the happy and lively music we have, the delicious food our countries prepare- with the correct seasoning. Don’t change who we are, who YOU represent for a country that lacks respect for Latinos already. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Adding Additional Update

Dec 22nd, 2020

I just want to add to my previous update. My family has been here now for four days we’ve had multiple complaints including the Wi-Fi flashing light that still has not been corrected and now the TV service doesn’t work. We called over 4 1/2 hours ago and no one has been here to service our television. As I mentioned before this place is not worth the money and do not upgrade to “premium“. The management here is terrible are unresponsive! I would use a different word but I am not allowed to on TripAdvisor! Long story short $4500 later and this is the worst trip I’ve ever had to the Mayan Riviera! Please book elsewhere! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
