Baros - A true Island of Treasure!

Sep 20th, 2019

The island resort of Baros is a a real Treasure Island or should that be an Island of Treasures. Everywhere that you turn, you uncover another hidden secret gem or encounter another member of the brilliant staff who simply shines and brings instant smiles to your face. This was our second visit to the island where, once again, we were lucky enough to stay in the one of the superb water pool villas, this time for 2 weeks - and what a 2 weeks they were! You leave the airport in Male after picking up your cases to be greeted by the welcoming Baros staff who attach the "Bound for Baros" tag to your cases before they are whisked off, a short 200m walk, the luxury speed boat parked for you on the jetty. You are then powering away across the delightful calm blue sea, with cold towels and water, until 20 mins later, the iconic Lighthouse top can be seen in the distance indicating the island paradise you are about to visit from all fo the other islands. The staff greet you as you disembark, before you are taking to be greeted by the General Manger, Shijah, and his staff. This is a very personal island they pride themselves on their personal skills. It is greatly appreciated. A brief talk about changes to the island and a welcome drink, before our villa host Asim (great guy - very welcoming and would do anything for you) took us to our villa for the holiday to begin. The rich wood of the villa - very romantic, huge space inside, huge comfortable bed and the view (- man, what a view - crystal blue sea edging off the villa's own infinity pool - breathtaking!). Fish scuttled around the balcony, in the distance, occasional dolphins would go past, playing with a paddle boarder, a black reef tip shark would drift by - this was the start of the treasures that we would find. If you like snorkelling, then Baros has one of the best house reefs found anywhere. Please do the introduction to the reef by the fabulous staff at the dive centre - Usaan (a real olympian - so you are in safe hands here), Jasmine and Nathan. All incredibly knowledgeable as they guide you through the millions of fish, the sharks and the turtles and rays that you will see and they guide you on your first trip around the reef. Armed with this confidence, you can go out everyday on your own and just see the wonders and treasures. On our last day, we snorkelled around the reef and saw, 4 separate turtles in crystal clear shallow water, many sharks, an eagle ray and so many fish! It is a sensual and incredible experience that we have been blessed to receive. But the real treasures of this beautiful island are the staff. Many have been there for years and have so much experience and such a welcoming nature. It will probably have left so many out, but we would like to thank Kamal at the spa for sorting out my back! Hussein the magic waiter who was brilliant and entertaining - don't forget the trick that I also showed you! Ahmed, Zura, Naseem, Niken and Afaa at the restaurants - all of these were so kind, funny and helpful, they would be a credit to any restaurant in the world and i have been to many. Thank you for the kindness you showed us and the food and service was amazing!. Go to all the restaurants - they are all different and all brilliant. The one experience you must try is the Tapanaki where the brilliant chef Chaminda Wickramasinghe is king of the world. From his brilliant juggling to the beautiful drawing of two hearts for us on our anniversary made from an egg balanced on the edge of blade, Chaminda is simply the best - and he cooks the most perfect food. Everywhere you turn on the island, another hidden treasure is found - the sunsets from the Lighthouse bar are incredible, the dolphin trip with champagne and canapés will live long, the great bands on a Tuesday and Sunday with an evening drink and your feet in the sand, the incredible whole tuna carved in front of us at the Maldivian buffet night - it just goes on - an incredible place. Thank you to the GM Shijah and to manager Shazeel for letting us stay on this beautiful place. A couple more years and we will be back and hopefully we can stay on our beautiful villa home once more. It was a true welcome home. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Our Second Visit to Paradise-Baros

Sep 20th, 2019

This was our second visit to The Maldives and The Best Resort - Baros. It is truly magical. Both times we stayed in the overwater villa with private pool and it is worth every penny. Baros is beautiful, clean and simply Paradise. All. And I mean All of the staff treat you like family and are super friendly and helpful. Our villa host Zoro was amazing and took great care of our every wish. Thank you Zoro, you made our stay very special. We participated in the dolphin watching cruise which was very exciting enjoyable. The Spa staff treat you to a relaxing experience. We also had a Private Sandbank sunset dinner which was simply majestic. Muaz, the Butler took special care of us down to every minor detail. It is an experience of a life time and one we shall never forget. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary and the staff made sure to make it extra special. We are already starting to plan our 3rd visit to Baros next year. Thank you again to All the staff for making our stay so memorable. Baros is simply the best!! Dwayne and Luis TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wow, wow, wow

Sep 19th, 2019

What can I say about Baros? It's a place you can only dream of. When we landed in Male, we were quickly greeted by one of the Baros team and whisked away onto a speed boat which took us to the island. It took about 20 minutes, and you're offered drinks along the way. When we arrived, it was just stunning! We were greeted straight away with a glass of champagne and welcomed by some of the team before being shown to our villa. We opted for the one of the water villas which was well worth the money! It was absolutely stunning. Our villa host Asim told us all of the information we needed about the room and the island, and all of the things you could do on the island. There are so many activities you can do, or you can do absolutely nothing. The choice is yours! During our stay we ate twice at the Lighthouse (my favourite). I would highly recommend the lobster bisque. We also ate Cayanne Grill (which wasn't worth the price in my opinion) and were treated to dinner on the beach as were there on our honeymoon. It was delightful and we were served by a lovely guy called Muaz who made sure our evening went without a hitch. Breakfast is served daily in the Lime Restaurant and is wonderful. One day the chefs even made us a indian breakfast after making a special request! We also ate lunch there, as well as in the Sail Bar. As you'd expect the food we ate was out of this world. If you do nothing else whilst on your stay, you must try snorkelling. You can see some incredible sea creatures, and can even swim with sharks (although we didn't see any while we were out). It's stunning! If you're looking for a lively island then Baros is not for you. It's so peaceful, you can go all day without seeing anyone at meal times, but it's also got lots on offer should you want to fill your days. A big thank you to Asim who looked after us throughout our stay and nothing was ever too much trouble! However saying that, every single person we encountered during our stay treated us like kings (and queen). We'd go back and visit every year if we could...however we've settled on our ten year anniversary! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Beauty of Baros - Surprised - Read on ! Honeymoon Trip

Sep 16th, 2019

I surprised my newly wedded wife to a honeymoon straight after Banyan Tree Seychelles. We took as trange trip - flying from Seychelles to Dubai - Dubai Male which wasted a day really. You can fly to srilanka from Seychelles then catch a flight form Sri Lanka instead !! ( didnt realise this at the time though) So we landed in Male flew to Movenpick resort ( see Movenpick review ) then took a speed boat trip from Male to Baros. The Journey On this particuler day the weather had been horrendous with ALL seaplanes being suspended from to the North Atolls which we had just come from ( again its in Movenpick review) and we still had to get to Baros. The speed boat over to Baros decided to have an bit of a melt down and we had to shelter next to the presidents island near Male (interesting) unitil another boat could be sent. The journey itself is no more than 20 mins or so on a good day but took us longer as we had a sick speedboat to transfer from. The resort We arrived on a miserable day and just couldnt wait to have a drink to be honest. There was no real picture post card views when we arrived, just heavy clouds and tired eyes. The days following this though stunned us to the reasons why so many fall in love here. The groynes you do see at low tide but still doesn't really spoil anything. The sand is beautiful and the resort itself is very romantic. Island host We were greeted by our island host Rifaau who was always thoughtful polite and very happy at all times, great assit to the team and made our stay very pleasurable too. Wishing you a beatiufl marriage too Rifaau. The restuarants Three all different but all very pretty settings, the lighthouse being the most famous and please go on Jazz night for a unforgettable moment with your loved one. The setting is perfect for cocktails, sunsets and fine dining, it has it all. We ate at all three and all have something different to offer too. The Main Bar Another wonderful setting with seating right up to the shoreline for romantic views across the indian ocean. Prices were not too steep and make sure you get plenty of Wassabi crisps from the barman ( you get peanuts too) whilst having a drink. The Room Boys Couldnt fault them, very professional Ali Ushaid. Thank you for tidying up a mess everyday. The Snorkling Hire the camera from the dive pro team for around 30 dolllars and they also give you a speed stick 16 gig with all your pictures on it...Bargain. You can see everything really, turtles, sharks etc and really is a very safe and beautiful reef. The Beach villa - 112 Is near the water villas so it seemed a little crowded up this end but was never an issue after the first day. you didnt have to walk more than 8 metres from villa to the shoreline either. The Island itself If you love Frangipani flowers than this island is for you to see them. The grounds are very well kept and spotlessly tidy too - credit to the ground staff. It's a tropical paradise for everyone really. You cannot walk all the way around the beach but there are large stretches to walk along together. The Gym Perfect size with all the kit you need really, including water and apples to boost. The Spa Sadly we never used but got shown around and thought how pretty it was really. Honeymoon We dressed up in our wedding gear and took shots around the ilsnad mostly early in the morning. Some great settings too. We loved the resort. The Pool area Always very quiet but very big to swim in, great to view the indian ocean from the infinity pool too. Overall Loved the resort We will return Loved the staff and Ambiance Love Paul And Giedre Addison TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

WELCOME HOME !

Sep 16th, 2019

We have stayed at BAROS several times, and we are greeted warmly every time. When we entered the room,"Welcome home" was drawn on the bed. So,we felt like we were back in Baros. There were many staff who work for Baros for a long time, and they remembered our face and give us warm greeting. The fishes and the turtles and the sharks in BAROS's house leaf also greeted us.(The coral reefs in BAROS's house leaf have revived and fish has increased. We've felt so relieved.) Baros is our ONLY "The Second House". TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
